generic formula advice please

The cost of name brand formula is starting to become a real burden. I did not want to switch to generic formula, but it looks like it is become a necessary option. Does anyone have experience with generic? Please tell me about your experiences. Thanks you for your help!

Re: generic formula advice please

  • We hadn't planned to use store brands, but DS's pedi actually encouraged us to. ?She said it's exactly the same (as far as the nutrients and regulations) as the expensive brand- just cheaper! ?DS has been on a generic of Enfamil Gentlease (Parent's Choice) for months and does very well on it. ?He's much less gassy on the generic than he was on the Enfamil.

  • We switched from Enfamil to Target around 3 months, and it's SO much cheaper. $12 vs. $26/can. DS had no problems switching at all, and the ingredients are virtually the same.

  • My pediatrician recommended it! We use Target brand or Walmart brand Gentease. Don't feel bad, it is just as good and so much cheaper!

We did a cold turkey transition.

  • I haven't tried them yet but I did ask the pedi about them today.  She said all the main ingrediants are the same but  some of the "fillers" might be different.  She said they are fine to use.  I just can't get over the price difference, it makes me feel like something is wrong with them.
  • We use the parent choice brand gentlease.  I too was nervous but the ingredients are the same and DS has done better on the walmart brand than he ever did on the Emfamil less gas.  We also switched cold turkey.

I have the same exact story. I use Members Mark which is sams club (parents choice is walmart, same parent company and manufacturer) a 3+ lb can is only $19.99. HTH
