So Penelope is a family name, and I really love it, but no one is going to call a little girl Penelope. So what are suggestions for nicknames? I HATE Penny. Ive heard of Nelle or Nelly... which is OK. I actually read of someone using Elle or Ellie (Pen-EL-o-pee), hence Elle. I actually really like this. What do you all think? Is Elle to far-fetched for a nickname of Penelope?
Re: nickname for Penelope
When we were considering Penelope as a choice, I thought of the following:
Elle, Ellie, Penn, or Poppy...it's a great name with lots of options.
We decided to go with Elle Marie as our girl name, but I still love Penelope.
My full name is long like that and most people use the whole thing. I like Ellie. That works well and is cute.

Penelope is our 1st choice for a girls name. We will call her Penelope most of the time. If we want to use a shorter version we will call her Poppy, Pen, or Polly. Elle is also a great nn for Penelope but I won't be using it because it's so common here.
BTW, I think most people will call her by her full name if you do. I know a 3 year old Penelope and everyone calls her by her full name.
After seeing the movie "Penelope" I love that name. I think you could call her Penelope w/out a nn if you wanted. My sister is Danielle, and almost no one ever calls her Dani. My mom didn't like that nn, so we always called her Danielle. And if she really wants a nn, she'll probably experiment in middle school/high school and decide herself (I see a lot of kids do this - sometimes it sticks, sometimes it doesn't!)
I do like the nn Poppy, and Pep is cute, too (even if it's not a "real" name lol!)
