I hate hate hate when people abuse the handicap sign they hang in their car. I went to target really quick on my lunch break and saw someone pull into the handicap spot. Then a lady hopped out and walked quickly into the store...clearly not handicapped. What if someone who really was handicapped pulled in and needed that spot?!?! ugh! i hate that!

You do not know that they aren't really handicapped. Maybe they have a heart condition. Maybe they are like me...you can't tell I'm handicapped unless I have a flair up but when I'm flared up it's bad! And I never know when it will hit. Or maybe they have Epilepsy or Asthma.

in their defense we give our heart patients handicap parking and they dont look too crippled but dont need to walk too far. However, somewhere like target its pointless because you are going to walk the store anyway so it doesnt make much sense.

My ILs do this and it makes me so mad. My BIL has a handicap permit and they use it to get good parking (my MIL and SIL do)

When I was pregnant, they tried to use me to justify it if I was in the car. Um, I can walk just fine so STFU. It's wrong what you're doing and you know it.

Yeah, I love that show! I didn't even think about that one, I guess he does use a cane. BUT I guess I always wondered how if you can't walk well you can still manage to ride a motorcycle. I always don't currently have an issue like that so maybe I just don't understand.

Not flaming because I agree with you, but I just wanted to point something out. I have a friend who has some serious problems with joint pain etc. She cannot walk long distances-including a long walk from a parking lot. If you were to see her get out of a car you wouldn't think she was handicapped, but she really does need the sticker. She often has to use a wheel chair in the mall etc. I'm just saying that you never know if someone is "really" handicapped or not.

this is true...but...i really think it was for the older man in her car. i just have a gut feeling she wasn't the handicapped one. but if she was....well then more power to her!

Um, just because someone isn't hobbling around on a peg leg doesn't mean they aren't handicapped.

Handicap does not necessarily mean wheelchairs. They give them out to pts with heart issues, that you can't see....

my parents can walk just fine but are both handicap. My mom has a spinal chord injury from a car accident, she's lucky to walk but she cannot turn her head in either direction because of her accident. My dad was injured at work and is now handicap.

I agree with PP about people needing the permit but not necessarily "looking" like they need it. I had a friend in college who needed one because she had bad respiratory problems. You would never guess it by looking at them.

I'm a 3rd tri lurker, and I have to say...REALLY? Wow.

My mom has MS and when I was younger she would have episodes that would cause her to lose a lot of strength some days, and some days "look normal". She had a handicapped parking sticker and would walk "normally" in to the store and then she's have to get in to a store wheelchair to not sap what little strength she did have.

So I'm assuming you've never in your life used a handicapped bathroom stall?

i wish they had a parking space for pregnant people...I remember when i was 8 months pregers and hated walking too much because my whole body was sooo uncomfortable! i would be breathless by the time i got to the front of the store!

My father has one and you can't tell he needs it. He had a heart problem for several years and eventually had a heart transplant. The doctors didn't want him walking a whole lot and getting his heart rate up. He even had complete strangers confront him about it in parking lots, because they couldn't see his "handicap".

I was typing this while she was responding to other people so I didn't see her responses. So, I'm sorry for flipping out.

But, when you've lived your whole life where people come up and b!tch your mom out in front of you in parking lots for using a handicapped sticker because they don't "look handicapped", you get a bit defensive.

A friend of my Dad's lost a foot so he has a handicap sticker - he's a big burly biker type guy and gets TONS of crap for using handicap spots. I know he's taken off his foot for at least one person.
