xp: Anyone deliver at/know anything about Mt Auburn in arlington MA area?

Hi Ladies!

We're moving down to MA next week (from NH) and I've set up some appts with their obstetricians... anyone have any experiences they can share about this place? I'm a little nervous switching states/drs/hospitals so late in the game. How were the drs? nurses? lactation consultants? your room? was there a place for dh to stay? did you room-in? thanks!

  • I don't have personal experience there, but my friend delivered there and she has nothing but wonderful things to say about her delivery. She said the nurses were awesome.

You may want to post this on the Boston Babies board - I am sure you would get more feedback there.

  • Oh and yes, her DH stayed with and her baby did too. I know she had a private room with a jacuzzi!

  • I'd post on the Boston board bc you'll get more feedback. I have no experience with OB at Mt. Auburn, but my SIL's grandmother had surgery there in the fall and in the middle of the night, some old man came in her room and got on top of her and wouldn't get off!! She was unable to reach the pager button for the nurses and they didn't find her very qucikly. She was very upset.

Obviously this has no bearing on OB, but I know the family felt like the administration (who they met with) didn't handle it very well.

I'm delivering at Winchester Hospital in Winchester if you change your mind and I and a number people I know have had a great experience there...

    Hope this helps!

  • No first hand experience here either, however my co-worker just delivered there and had very good feedback. She too came from out of state mid-pregnancy and felt the transition went smoothly.
  • I delivered DD at Mt. Auburn and I had a really, really bad experience in labor and delivery, a great experience in post-partum. I have also heard lots of good things, so I think my case was somewhat uncommon (I hope). I will tell you the details if you want them, but the highlights were that the anethesiologist accidentally injected my epi into my bloodstream instead of my epidural space causing me to have a seizure (!) and a nurse who spoke little to no English and spent the entire labor staring at the monitor with her back to me (!!). It was beyond bad. I'm delivering at Newton-Wellesley this time and hopefully all will be well.
