Knitting socks=Big time SUCK

There went my "I'm a decent knitter" ego.  Socks suck.  Bad.

Will I quit?  Hell no.  I will beat the socks.  I must beat them.

Re: Knitting socks=Big time SUCK

  • oh no...my goal since I started knitting (YESTERDAY) is to have stockings made by Christmas...

Please tell me I can do this.

  • socks are HARD.  I wouldn't know personally since I can only knit straight rows...but my MIL is a very accomplished knitter and even she says they are hard!  So, good luck...try not to get too frustrated!

I started a pair in november and this is as far as I've gotten.  Are you doing them on double pointed needles or circulars?  I think I'll pick them back up again since I just finished my baby blanket.  (yay!)

  • I'm using bamboo DPNs.  I've got some small circs on order, but Knit Picks takes FOREVER to ship, so I'm still waiting.

DPNs are the devil.  I just frogged the whole thing.  I'll try again later on.

  • And YAY! for finishing the blanket.  I'm also working on the Debbie Bliss polo shirt for Will.  Think I'll work on that for now.  LOL

  • It's just nice to see that other people are knitting.

I make scarves every year for a gift my dad does thru a volunteer organization.  They need 450 scarves to give out to under privelaged girls at a local middle school.  The kids love them and look forward to getting a new one every year.

I find that knitting actually forces me to have to sit down and rest for a while! I miss it when i'm not doing it.  Straight rows are a breeze for me - I've never tackled anything harder!

  • I've only used dpn's for hats.  The circulars are really easy when making socks.  ....or so I've heard.  The part of the socks I've done have been really easy.  I'm sure the heel and the toe will be bastards.

I keep forgetting to ask you what your name on ravelry is. I think belle is on there too and I forget to ask her.  I have one lone friend, I think her nest name is cmeonthewater... or something like that.

I'm looking for newborn hats now.  Ravelry is so neat.  I was trying to tell the ladies about it at the knitting shop and I just don't think they get it!  =)

  • I'm MummyLovesToKnit on ravelry.

I adore that site, I love the boards on there too.

  • I'm a lurker (since I don't yet have a baby to parent), but as a fellow knitter I had to jump in.  Socks aren't hard!!  I swear!  Well, they do make the hands ache (such little tiny needles!), but other than that they're not technically challenging.  And I promise you, the heel couldn't be simpler.  If you guys need help at all, just let me know!
  • Ok.  I'll have to find you and friend you.

ljkm:  Are you on ravelry also?  I'm probably about to pick up my socks again.  I may take you up on that help!  =)

  • We need a nest knitting group!!!!

    What's ravarly?  Sounds interesting.

You're right, we do!  We're such old ladies.   Ravelry.com is this really neat website for knitters and crocheters.  There are message boards, links to patterns.... basically anything you could ever want.  You ought to sign up.  It takes a few days for them to 'approve' you, but I think it's worth it!

  • excuse my awesome spelling of ravelry!

I just signed up.  (I googled it and got annoyed that I couldn't see things right away...so I'm waiting....patiently.)

  • Lu-lu: I am on Ravelry.  I'm ljlkc there (my maiden initials).  Seriously--if you need any help at all, I'm happy to!

It may take about a week to get on the site.  Sucks!  Anyway, it's a really cool site!  =)

  • ooh! ooh! Friend me, too! :)  I'm Hooray over there.

DandR - check your knitting post from yesterday  - put  a couple of good knitting links in my response to you.

and Bubbly - I'm with ya, I abandoned my sock pursuit two inches in - the DPNs drove me crazy with such a small circumference!
