Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Another list question from a 3rd tri......

1-What items do you need at home/hospital for BF? (I have a pump, Boppy) I am wondering more on the lines of Rx, creams or other things.

?

2-I have no idea how big/small baby will be so what sizes in coming home outfit did you pack so you knew you would have something that would fit. (nothing fancy with me just a oneies for him)

?

3-Any personal items you found you needed when you got home to make things easier? (creams, medication, etc..)

?

Thanks so much?

  • Laniosh (sp) nipple cream saved my life, I wish I had brought it to the hospital. Other than that I just brought my boppy with me.

Chances are no matter how big the baby they will still fit into a NB outfit, but bring a 0-3 just in case. We ONLY brought 0-3 because I didn't buy any NB outfits and she wore NB for the first month!

Just bring the pain medication kit they give you at the hospital. Tucks (is that the spray I think?), witch hazel pads, the squirt bottle, tylenol, stool softeners until your first poo.

  • 1. i had to have my mom run out and get lansinoh, my nipples were torn up immediately.

    2. i brought both nb and 0-3 onesies, and it turns out they were both too big. i brought way too much stuff!

    3. lansinoh, lansinoh, oh and lansinoh!

  • 1. I didn't BF, so I can't help you there.

    2. As far as his clothes went, I took a couple different newborn outfits. And I had a 10 pounder, SO the onesies didn't snap at the bottom. I just pulled his little pants on and went on my way. If I would have known, I would have thrown in a 0-3 or 3 monther too. Also, being a FTM, I wasn't thrilled with putting things over his head. Zip or snap sleepers probably would have been a good idea.

    3. My best friend was my little spray bottle for the bathroom...

  • 1. I would recommend having a lanolin based nipple cream.  Anything else you will only get if basically something goes wrong.

    2. I had three outfits in various sizes NB, 0 and 0-3.  Everything was too small since DD was .5lb smaller than expected.  Also the weather completely changed the 3 days I was in the hospital so the clothes were completely inappropriate.

     3. I needed pads, lots of pads in lots of weights and sizes.  I changed them so frequently that I went through a lot more than I expected.  I'm really glad I got a case of high protein granola bars, they were a lifesaver when it was just too hard to eat a real meal or to bridge the gap.

  • 1. definetly bring lanolin nipple cream to the hospital.Your nips will be so sore and cracked. Lanolin really helps. You will also need a good nursing bra. When you get home from the hospital you will need breast pads, have lots of bottles of H2o and snacks you can easily eat while BF

    2. I brought a newborn sleeper and a size 0-3. The nb fit him perfectly but he ended up peeing on it, so he had to wear the 0-3. BRING 2 items in case of blow outs or pee. He aslo peed on his socks and had to go home sockless LOL

    3. I had a reaction to anesthesia as well as PUPPS. Lots of lotion and anti itch cream was helpful.  I also recommend belly wrapping. My good friend from mexico recommended a wrap with ace bandage and a girdle PP. I thought she was crazy. She came to see my after I was released from the hospital and i was a huge marshmellow and looked 5 mo pregnant. I let her wrap my belly and wore the girdle the whole day and that night and woke up a lot thinner. It somehow helped get all the fluid and swelling off. I totally recommend this. Mexican tradion says to wear for 40 days. I wore it for a week and a half...probably should have wore it longer..but ehh

  • My hospital gave me a small tube of the medela nipple cream.  I used that until I ran out. It was really small!!  Definitely bring comfortable clothes.  I brought shorts and my nursing tank.  I didn't want to deal with the gown and also bring the stuff you prefer for your first shower.  Otherwise you use what they have there and it might not be anything that great.  I also brought my body pillow because I could not sleep without it and maybe a favorite blanket.  That always helps me get more comfortable.  The hospital gave me the tucks pads, the dermoplast spray and the spray bottle to take home.  I also asked for more of the netting underwear that they provide because it was much more comfortable than my regular underwear the first week.  Just make sure they give you the right size!!

  • Oh yeah, the stool softeners they gave me was no help at all. Prune juice did the trick. I recommend having some on hand!

    GL !! :)

  • 1.  Lansinoh lanolin, nursing bra/tanks

    2. defintaley NB size.  0-3 months swallowed her till she was like 11 lbs.

    3. Colace, and I took Tylenol & Iboprofen for pain (got a 2nd degree tear) for a few weeks and its safe with BFing.  Tucks pads, lots of large pads, cheap granny panties are great the first few days.

1-What items do you need at home/hospital for BF? (I have a pump, Boppy) I am wondering more on the lines of Rx, creams or other things. You can use the hospital pump, so I wouldn't bother bringing yours.  I brought a nursing tank and my boppy, that was it.  The LC gave me samples of Lansinoh nipple cream and a nipple shield because I had flat nipples.

2-I have no idea how big/small baby will be so what sizes in coming home outfit did you pack so you knew you would have something that would fit. (nothing fancy with me just a oneies for him) I brought a two piece outfit that was 0-3, it was a little big.  I should have brought a newborn outfit (he was 8lbs 6oz and 7lbs 13oz when we left the hospital).

3-Any personal items you found you needed when you got home to make things easier? (creams, medication, etc..) Steal the mesh panties if you end up having a c-section, they don't bother your incision.  I also got a post partum wrap for my abdomen for support from the hospital - made moving around so much easier (not to mention coughing and laughing!).  Ibuprofen saved my life when I was home.  I would also recommend stool softeners.

    Thanks so much
