I am not an alarmist, but last night my poor baby was coughing so hard that she threw up. I took her in at 10:30, and she got a nebulizer treatment. She's much better, but RSV in a tiny infant is a miserable thing for all involved.
I think I am going to switch from a pediatrician back to family practice. DS never got sick from their waiting rooms, and he picked this up at her well baby visit. That pedi's office is a petri dish.

Re: Late night runs to urgent care suck. :(
Aw, poor thing! I hope she's feeling better soon!
Sam caught the stomach flu when I took him to Max's 4 month checkup. I know he caught it there because that's the only place we went out to that week. Yes, they have separate waiting rooms, but everyone checks out at the same desk and you have to walk through the "sick" waiting room to exit (not a good idea w/ a grabby toddler). We all ended up getting the stomach flu and it was miserable. so yes, I agree, the pedi's is a germ haven.
ahhh, this sucks, sorry :-(
J was sick a lot before when he was in daycare and he threw up most nights when he was having coughing attacks. The sad part was that I was giving him 1 bottle of bm a day, all I could pump... and he was throwing it all up from coughing so much
Hope she's better soon! the nebulizer helped us a lot!
Edit: and I agree about the pedi's waiting rooms. We also have a well baby room, but you have to walk through the general waiting area and use the same desk to check in. I am convinced DS2 got really sick and ended up in the ER (on steroids and nebulizer again) after the flu shot.... but it was probably the waiting room that got him so sick.
I'm so sorry to hear about your little baby girl. I hope she is doing better really soon.
We are lucky in that our pedi office is set up differently. When you walk into the foyer, you either have to step through a door to your left or a door to your right. Each door takes you to a sick waiting room (on your left) or a well waiting room (on your right). The sick and well check out at opposite ends of the building too. The only way to come into contact with a sick patient there is to meet them in their room.
If ours had that setup it would be better. But you have to walk through the sick area to get to the well area, and the fish tank and all the cool toys are in the sick kid area. Trying to keep ds in the tiny corral with one basket of broken toys was impossible. And the checkin and checkout desks are communal.
It's also one of the biggest pedi's offices in the area, and is busy from the minute they open until they close. I don't think I like the "crank 'em in, crank 'em out" of that kind of office. DS got much more personal attention at the family practice, too.

I'm sorry she's so sick.
You'd think that with a large office they could set it up a little better. Is there room for 2 separate waiting areas? Maybe you could suggest that.

That is horrible that they have all the big nice toys on the sick side. Who wants to play with toys when there sick. Walking through sick to get to the well, reminds me of walking through the smoking section to get to the non smoking. Where is the smarts in that?
We use a family doctor at times too (really only for sick visits, since they are closer to our pedi office). They also have a similiar set up though.
