hi there-
I saw in a post below that you were adopting from Korea. DH and I are in the very early stages of looking into adopting from Korea, we are deciding on an agency to go with. So far we have met with Catholic Charities who works with Holt International and we are meeting next month with CHSFS who works with Eastern.
I was curious if your husband is Korean and if he is, did you go through the Korean Heritage Program?

Re: ++++ DAT1205 ++++
oh, I should add, DH and I are Korean which is why I asked about your DH. The case worker at CHSFS told us we could apply through the Korean Heritage Program and I was curious if you had any experience with that program.
thanks!
hi!
thanks for your reply. I haven't met with the SW yet to discuss all the details of the program, but he did mention that as Korean-Americans we qualify for it. It doesn't reduce wait time, but there is some flexibility with some of the restrictions and I was curious as to which ones. :-)
The more we research adopting from Korea, the more excited we are getting! Best of luck to you and how exciting that you may have your baby this time next year!!
Sorry to butt in, but I might have a couple of answers for you!
I have 2 sons adopted from Korea, and my husband is Korean-American.
Our first son was a waiting child through CHSFS, which was the only program available to us at the time. LOVE THEM!!!! Their Korea program is fab, and the women who run it are amazing and I cannot find a single bad thing to say about them! We didn't do the Korean Heritage thing, although I understand there may be a little more flexibility with weight/health issues than with an Anglo couple. Oh, and some agencies allow first-time Korean-American parents to request a gender. They really do like to see children adopted into Korean-American families. Note that Eastern has the BMI limits for adoption--I can't remember whether Holt does.
Our second son (who came home in December) was through an agency that works with SWS. We ended up receiving a sibling call (meaning that the 2 boys share the same birthmother) and luckily the baby was placed with SWS. Although we would have been permitted to request a girl, we requested a boy (if the sib had been a sister, we would have accepted the referral, however).

thanks for sharing your experiences, noonecarewhoiam! I'm really looking forward to meeting with the CHSFS SW and asking them lots of questions about the program! The SW that works with Korean-American families is in Korea for the next 2 1/2 weeks so hopefully we will meet him soon after he returns.
Congratulations on your recent family addition!! :-)
