Until today, we have always had bumpers, and never worried about them because Aidan got close enough to them for me to have any concern. Well, he started rolling back to belly a few weeks ago (still can't do belly to back except once in a while by accident) and the last couple of nights, he's starting rolling over onto his belly and smashing his face into the bumper. And of course, he can't roll back so it freaks me out. I took out that one bumper, but he looks so naked and exposed in the crib now, and I'm worried about him banging his face into the bars, getting stuck, etc....I know I'm being irrational, but does anyone else not have any bumpers and have the same worries?

Re: Do you have bumpers in your crib?
We did until Ethan hit the same thing as Aidan....I took them out and that night he got caught up in the slats. I bought some breathable ones the next day and haven't had any issues since.

Thanks, Amy...where did you get your breathable bumpers?
We hadn't been using our puffy, cute bumper. Recently, Sophia's been waking up in the middle of the night crying because she gets her arm or leg stuck between the rails.
I ordered a pink breathable bumper from Target.com tonight. I can't wait to get it and stop the limbs in the rails problem!
AAHH! ?Anderson's doing the same thing- rolling back to belly like a fiend, but belly to back much less often (really, just by accident now and then). ?It's driving me NUTS- every single time I lay him on his back, he flips within 10 seconds. ?Oddly though, he only does it during the day. ?At night, he goes on his back and stays there, so since he's still in the PNP in our room, I don't worry about nights. ?Even if he *did* roll to his belly, the sides are breathable so he's fine there.
?Today I did have him nap in his crib (briefly- he was fighting sleep all day) and the bumpers are up in there. ?I wasn't worried since I was sitting in the next room with the video monitor. ?When he woke up and flipped onto his belly, I stood outside the door watching him (on the video monitor). ?He did get his face up against the bumper, but was able to pull it away, turn his face to the other side, and fuss loudly. ?It made me feel better to see that he was strong enough to get his face back.?
Sounds like the breathable bumper would be great for you. ?I know that's what I'd do if Anderson slept in his crib at night. ?Hopefully they'll both get the hang of belly to back soon!?

I had bumpers the entire time DD was in the crib and DS has had one since birth too. Honestly, I left it in so their binkies wouldn't fall through the slats of the crib at night.
We have the angelcare monitor in the crib so it gives me a false sense of security. Zack is great at rolling both ways now though so I don't worry about it much anymore. When we have baby #3 I think I'll get a breathable bumper.
