going out to dinner tonight...what to bring for DS?

We're going out to a little bistro tonight that has a pretty eclectic menu.   It's an Italian seafood grill with a sushi bar.    I'm thinking of ordering him an avacodo roll and cutting it up into bite size pieces.  Or see if I can get a baked potato.   I'll most likely get some sort of chicken so he can have a couple pieces of that.

I'm going to bring a container of mashed sweet potatoes as well as a banana and cheerios just in case.    Does that sound good?

  • The last time we went to a sushi place I just asked for a few slices of plain avocado for dd and it wasn't a problem at all. At the place you described I'd imagine that you could also easily get some plain pasta or rice too. A few bites of your chicken and he shouldn't need anything else. I'd probably not bother bringing anything at all, but I'm lazy... ;-)

  • Does he drink water from a sippy? I would bring that, it always helps keep ds happy for us.
  • thanks...this is only our 2nd time out since he's started table foods....so much easier when he just ate purees!    Just throw a couple containers in the bag and we were ready to go!    Now trying to figure out if I need to pack food or not is a bit of a pain!

  • When we go out, it's often for Italian or sushi. If my husband could get both in one place, they'd have to call the police to make him leave.

When Joseph was littler, we would give him pasta and veggies at Italian restaurants. We just asked them to overcook the veggies for him, then I'd smash them up at the table. He usually had some of my food, too. Ricotta filling, a little provolone, some chicken or something.

At Matthew's favorite sushi place, Joseph will have rice and some tempura vegetables. The way tempura cooks, the coating absorbs any oil, and the veggies inside are almost steamed inside the crispy shell. He loves the sweet potatoes, carrots, green beans and broccoli. I would just peel off the coating and mash them up. And he might sometimes have some of my soba noodles. (I don't like sushi.) Oh, and Matt would sometimes get him a piece of Tamago without wasabi. Joseph has no egg issues though, and has had whole eggs since 6m.
