The other night, DH rolled over in bed and pushed on my belly. Im pretty sure it was under the baby but it hurt so bad I screamed! It hurt for at least a full two minutes after and I couldnt move. Later that night, I turned funny and it hurt again.
Since then, I swear she had been moving less. Then, of course, I happened across the post about the cord getting wrapped around the babies neck and noticing decreased movement and all that....
Im just being paranoid right? DH probably didnt hurt her, just my sore, expanding muscles....right?
Re: How hard do you have to push to hurt the baby?
When I first saw the post title I thought you meant pushing as is delivery, lol.
As far as your question, I don't know. I know the baby is very well protected by the amniotic fluid sac, but if you're really concerned I'd say call your doctor and run it by them.
Oh, and I was kind of a worrywart for a while after reading the umbilical cord post too.
I thought the same thing about pushing as the PP - that you meant in labor.
You really can't hurt the baby - I am sure you would not be able to tolerate the pain yourself before it affected the baby. He/she is well protected in there by the layers of fat, muscles and ligaments, a very thick uterine wall and the amniotic fluid.
During my birthing class the first time around, the birthing teacher taught us to play a game with the baby where you push really hard and wait for the baby to push back, then you move your hand to a new spot and the baby will push there. It is supposed to help their IQ by strenthening the connection between right and left brain, so I did it. He did respond/learn the game (so did DS#2). I don't think she would have encouraged that if it could cause problems.
in general, you have to be injured yourself in order to injure the baby. and by injure, i mean you need medical assistance - think car accident, etc.
