Moving to Different App

Hey ladies! I know there hasn't been a whole lot of communication throughout our pregnancies here in the forum but there are a couple regulars who have been checking in.

How does everyone feel about using a different platform for communication?

My first BMB is using Discord. I've heard of lots of groups moving over to FB but I know not everyone has social media accounts.

Just wanted to hear everyone's thoughts since I know we're getting close to our due dates!

I'd be down for discord! I can do Facebook but I haven't logged in for more than a year. I'm pretty much not on any social media

I don’t have discord or even know what it is, so I’d prefer Facebook. I’m not necessarily opposed to discord, I’d just need to download it and figure it out.

I'm in the same boat as Aaryn. I've heard of discord but never used it. I seem to do better with just messaging apps as opposed to boards though so I'm good with whatever we end up with (may just need instructions for my old decaying brain).

It would be nice to stay more connected and support each other in real time. Discord sounds like a solid option since it’s easy to organize chats, but I totally get that everyone has different preferences. Maybe we could vote and see what works best for most of the group? Either way, I’m definitely in for staying more connected during these final weeks, chatting about everything from baby prep to random things like https://kfcmenuaustralia.com/kfc-catering-menu/ to keep things light

I'm down for Facebook or Discord. I'm not familiar with Discord so probably slightly prefer Facebook but am happy to download Discord if that's what the group prefers. It's been so quiet on here everyone must be in the 3rd tri trenches 😅

For those unfamiliar with Discord, a group has their own server that can be set up with various threads (Discord calls them Channels) however the group likes. It's very similar to having the threads here in the forum except there's no need to recreate a thread for the week/month because you just keep chatting in the same space. My July 2022 BMB uses discord and here's a screenshot of some of the threads we have.

We have a whole section of threads related to baby, a section for hobbies for anyone that wants to discuss books, movies, crafting, etc, and a general section that's for things like general chit chat, funny things. We've really gotten to know each other and each others families and have been a great virtual space for advice or just for venting.

If we go with FB, we can also create a group that can probably be set up somewhat similar, but I have had bad experiences looking for old comments or what not when a single thread gets super long.

I'm a little biased since I've been using Discord on the regular for the last 4 years so I like it. I also created my first BMBs Discord server so I can get ours set up for everyone if that's what we want to go with.

It seems like you and I are the only ones who know discord. I definitely prefer it to FB but if the other people are hesitant to try discord, I can be flexible. @AarynL, @travellingjess, @ellie_asaurus Would you three be ok with trying discord first?

I'm down for Discord. I think I downloaded the app and set it up already in anticipation of this.

Need to figure out notifications or else it'll be like here and I'll never check in!

@ferret22 yes I can get it set up! If I remember how we did it last time, I sent everyone an invite link as a PM to join once I had it mostly put together
