Snack Suggestions

I'm a little over nine weeks, and my morning sickness has mostly tapered off only to be replaced with near constant hunger. It's driving me crazy because I'm spending almost all of my day eating, but nothing really seems to fill me up. I've tried snacks like apples and cheese, pb&j, protein cereal, greek yogurt drinks, etc., and I'm still hungry pretty much as soon as I finish. Anyone have any suggestions for healthier snacks that have helped tide you over between meals?

Re: Snack Suggestions

  • I like to keep mixed nuts, bagged salad, crackers and hummus, whole wheat bread, and drinks like milk or smoothies on hand. The key for me avoiding nausea is to never get too hungry but I also just am always snacky πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ the joys of pregnancy!

  • Those high fiber high protein protein bars have helped some, and tons of water, but maybe don't listen to me because I have gained like crazy over the same hunger 😭

That stage is very common around 9–10 weeks, especially as nausea fades and your metabolism ramps up. Snacks that work best usually combine protein, fiber, and healthy fats, since those slow digestion and help you feel full longer. Options that helped me were cottage cheese with nuts or fruit, hummus with whole-grain crackers or vegetables, avocado with eggs, peanut butter on whole-grain toast, or a small portion of trail mix. Some people do better treating snacks as small meals rather than light bites.

Staying well hydrated can also help, since dehydration can increase the feeling of hunger. Planning ahead and keeping filling foods on hand makes it easier β€” many people use grocery delivery and even reach out to the Instacart phone number when managing orders or substitutions.
