Re: The Great Big Giant Question Thread

  • Anyone else having crazy back pain? I don’t remember it with my other pregnancies but they were awhile ago. Every morning I wake up with a sore lower back at like 5am and it doesn’t go away a little while after I get up. My bed doesn’t normally hurt my back so idk what’s going on.
  • Loading the player...
  • Oh my gosh yes!! I have a bad back to begin with but this is so much worse. I'm getting my pregnancy pillow out tonight to see if that alleviates the pain.
  • Report back please :) I was trying to wait a bit to buy one but if it helps I might need to get one asap.
  • I’ve got twinging pain in my pelvic area. Only 5w6d. Is that round ligament??
  • @ebonygmarks Probably, if the twinges are kind of in that V area of your lower abdomen. I get them already and I’m 6+1. Especially when I make a sudden movement or try to flip over in bed

How are you guys handling all the emotions around not telling people about the pregnancy? I want to wait a little bit before announcing (I’m 6+1), but when I see people and they ask how I’m doing, what’s new, etc, I feel like I’m lying.

It doesn’t help that 2 friends are going through infertility. So when I sit there a nod and empathize, knowing I’m newly pregnant, I feel so bad. I will tell them when I’m ready but like I said- it feels like I’m hiding/lying.
  • Oof that's hard. I'm a crier anyway, so it's not out of the ordinary to see me crying at random stuff. I do have a very close family friend who just suffered a chemical pregnancy and is going through fertility treatment. It is so hard not to tell her, even though I'm still very early. I know she's struggling and being newly pregnant I want to be sensitive to her journey. Solidarity with you on feeling like it's lying. But I am also allowed to be excited. I will tell her privately before I announce to everyone because I want to give her the space to do what she needs to in order to protect her peace. How? No clue. But if I figure it out, I'll let you know.

@mamakeeg reporting back on the pregnancy pillow! My back doesn't hurt as much this morning! Thats huge for me because I have 5 herniated discs. It took a little bit of time to get used to having it in the bed. We cosleep with our toddler so I had to make sure everything was safe. You might be okay sleeping on your side with a pillow between your legs.
  • @brookejay definitely round ligament pain. It was one of my first symptoms when I found out at 3w2d already! This is my third though so I think my body is like “oh yeah we know what to do” lol

@bridgiebee82 thank you! I also read yesterday that movement helps with back pain so I walked (around target of course) and did a little bit of yoga - back pain much better this morning!
  • Glad you're feeling better!
  • The Bump glitching???

anyone else having issues? I’m 6w3d but the app is saying I’m 7 weeks and also that week 7 was “5 weeks ago”…..
  • Yup mine has glitched too it went up a week!

they just came out with an update to fix it!
  • I also feel like I’m lying, but also remind myself it’s my baby and body so need to protect myself at all costs! And it’s fun to have my own big secret ☺️

My best friend is also struggling with infertility. We both have at one point and said we would want to know and would be happy for each other if one of us became pregnant. I know she’ll also feel upset for her own experience, but both things can be true.
  • Have a girls trip coming up and currently 5w. Don’t even have our OB appointment for a few more weeks to confirm, but this trip is before then. I feel nervous about trying to keep this a secret from some of my close friends. We don’t drink a ton, but bottomless brunch and a winery in one day is going to be a dead giveaway I think lol. Any suggestions on “excuses” for not drinking that might be believable? If they figure it out on their own, it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, but this is my first pregnancy so very anxious

If you aren’t comfortable telling your friends, then you can always use the I’m on meds that I can’t mix with alcohol excuse. Bonus if you have an old pill bottle that you can put placebos in. You can also talk to the staff and they most likely will have a solution, it’s a pretty common scenario.

  • Hi! Baby #4 due Dec 15. I’m a little concerned about how uncomfortable I am! Maybe it’s because it’s baby #4 or maybe because I’m closer to 30 than 20 this time around… but I feel similar to how I felt at the end of my third trimester with my first three babies. I can’t sleep, I’m in soooo much back/leg pain, my stomach is huge and I feel so stuffed and uncomfortable. Can anyone confirm that this is “normal”?? Anyone else feeling like they are wayyy too big to be nearly 6 weeks? Thanks so much.
  • Hey knottie, I have felt similar! (Baby #3 for me). from weeks 4-6 I felt SO hungry but then I’d eat a little and be stuffed. As if I was 35 weeks pregnant and my stomach was compressed. I also am struggling to sleep. I was dealing with some constipation (which caused bloating) so I upped my water intake and I’m also taking psyllium fiber.

This is Baby #8 for me. All the symptoms usually start earlier and more intense for me too. Especially that bloated overfull feeling. Ask you Dr about possibly adding some magnesium lotion for the aches and pains. It does help a little.

  • I second the magnesium! I don't use a lotion, but take magnesium glycinate and it helps with pain, anxiety, and stress. Maybe a different form will help with the bloating.

Did anyone else have mild cramping throughout the entirety of early pregnancy? I guess it’s more of a stretching burning sensation? The first two weeks I knew I felt it was a little more twingy on one side and Google convinced me it was something abnormal ( I had to stop looking up symptoms at that point) . I’m 35 and this would be my first pregnancy so I think I am just overly sensitive to any sensation I feel. Nothing like stabbing pains and no spotting. I’ve also convinced myself that it’s a bad sign I’m not experiencing nausea at this point (close to 6 weeks) and am just really tired and peeing a lot. What are some things you all do to just calm your nerves. I know ultimately I just need to relax and trust the process but my mind is being a real jerk 😂

**** edit - the rules and regulations link was AFTER this thread for me so I’m realizing this probably isn’t the right place for this question. Will find the correct spots on the future. Apologies in advance! I now can’t figure out how to delete it move it!!!
  • When have yall started a baby registry?!?

Just had our first OB apt where it was a huge data dump of information and questions my husband and I never even discussed yet 😂 like optional blood work? gender? Ma’am it’s so overwhelmingly my goal is to survive the first trimester and I still am in lala land some days that I’m actually pregnant😅
  • I have a registry started but it’s set as private and is more of a way for me to keep track of things as I do research on what I actually want.

Not sure what in the post was against the rules but I’ll answer anyways (and then read the rules & regs lol). Yes! I kept reading online that you could have cramping for 1-3 days around implantation. I had 12-14 days straight of cramping. Same with me - no stabbing, no bleeding. But they felt like period cramps to me. Turns out it’s really common and some women cramp all through the first trimester. It’s my first baby too and I’m 32. Probably our uterus growing!
  • @iwantcookies omg, same, it’s like where to even begin?? My top priority for the first trimester has been to dig into infant daycare options (the going advice for my area is to get on waitlists by 12 weeks 😳), I figure most of the other stuff can wait for second tri.

Holy cow! I guess it makes sense depending on the area but that’s insane
  • Wait lists for daycares are long! If I were to put my kids in daycare, we wouldn't be able to afford our mortgage. Its like 800 bucks a week around here.
  • @iwantcookies @bridgiebee82 It truly is insane. We’re fortunate to be in a position where my salary is still more than we’ll end up spending on daycare, but it definitely feels not great to spend so much money for the “privilege” not getting to see my kid all day!
  • When does the nausea stop? 😭🤢

Seriously, when I was pregnant with my twins, I very rarely felt nauseous and only threw up like twice. Now, I'm nauseous all day and puke every night between 6-8pm.

Sour candies help with the nausea but I'm at the point of going into GD with the amount I eat every day. Unisom does nothing. 😭
  • MrsPlatzMrsPlatz member
@bridgiebee82 idk!! I feel mine has even gotten worse the last few days. Doing everything that is suggested but by the end of the day I’m just moaning. 🤢 Hang in there. This too shall pass.
  • @bridgiebee82. My midwife suggested I avoid process sugars when I can as it can be a trigger and try mints! I usually get a minty gum. That’ll help for a few min. I ended up having to get her to give me antimeds because I’ve barely have been able to keep food down. Def talk to the to se if there is anything to do. I’ve also heard maybe a specific vitamin may help but I forgot which one it was,
  • @iwantcookies that makes sense about the processed sugars! I love mints, but unfortunately, they've become an aversion for me, particularly my toothpaste. 🤢 I've resorted to using my son's watermelon flavored toothpaste. My teeth just don't feel as clean.
  • @iwantcookies @bridgiebee82 I’ve heard a lot of people talk about the vitamin B6 + unisom combo providing relief.
  • dearseadearsea member
Preggie Pop Drops Plus really help with the nausea! The Plus ones have vitamin B6 added. They do contain sugar but I don’t think it’s a crazy amount and the flavors are honestly great!
  • Thank you! I appreciate the tips!
  • Just an update. Feeling super big and full like I was already in the third trimester was NOT normal. I have ovarian cancer. Please see a doctor immediately if you feel like your symptoms aren’t normal. Pregnancy can affect women in many different ways and who is to say what’s normal for one person and not another. Best of luck in your pregnancies, ladies.
  • @knottie765b1013afa65533 I’m so, so sorry to hear this. Keeping you and your care team in my thoughts and on my heart 💛
  • @knottie765b1013afa65533 I am so sorry.💔 I'm praying for you.
  • @knottie765b1013afa65533 I’m so very sorry you’re suddenly walking this road.  Praying for compassionate, competent care and peace for you.

I am 10 weeks along, and have been very fortunate to have very little symptoms (don’t hate me lol)
very beginning I had very mild nausea, but no vomiting. Fatigue hit hard, and tender breasts. But for the most part tender breasts come and go.

I have experienced two losses before in early first trimester. So I just feel like I’m hyper aware of everything and can’t seem to enjoy this pregnancy, because I don’t “feel” pregnant.

I did have an ultrasound at 7 wks 5 days and baby was doing great and measuring 1 day ahead.

Seeking advice…. How do you guys cope with your pregnancy during the early stages when you don’t have that fetal movement to feel for and to assure you??? How do you stay calm to know everything is ok and progressing the way it should be ?
