Anxiety Meds week 8

I have taken anxiety meds for a long time and have recently cut down to about nothing while pregnant. Unfortunately today my heart was pounding out of my chest where my partner felt it was best for me to take my as needed anxiety pill, Clonozapam. I’m super nervous as I know long term effects with this aren’t great. Anyone get info on just maybe a couple through the entire pregnancy?

  • i would ask your doctor about the prescription meds during pregnancy for sure. i would also look into supplements that help with anxiety/stress like L-theanine (which is generally safe to take during pregnancy). also lifestyle changes/additions - which i’m sure you’re already aware of or implementing :) best of luck momma!

  • You’re doing your best, and it’s okay to prioritize your mental health when needed. Clonazepam is sometimes used in pregnancy for severe anxiety, and while long-term use might have risks, a single or occasional dose is unlikely to cause harm.

    It’s a good idea to discuss this with your doctor to create a plan that balances your mental health and your baby’s well-being. They might suggest alternative strategies or medications if needed. Be kind to yourself, managing anxiety is part of taking care of both you and your baby!

  • I’ve been trying to avoid medication too for the baby’s sake, but sometimes the anxiety gets so overwhelming that it feels like there’s no other option. You did what you needed to in the moment, and one dose here and there is very different from long-term use. My doctor reassured me that occasional use is less concerning than chronic use, especially when the stress itself can be harmful. One thing that’s helped me a bit is Relax & Calm tea—it has things like chamomile and lemon balm that take the edge off. It’s obviously not the same as medication, but sometimes it helps enough to avoid taking anything stronger. Maybe worth a try for You
