PCOS First Pregnancy

Hi all - I am currently 6w2d with my first pregnancy. I have PCOS but managed to get pregnant without fertility treatments.
I am terrified of miscarrying and feel like im looking for signs that something is going wrong (light spotting one day, less sore breasts, ect.) My first prenatal appointment is 3 weeks out. How do you deal with telling yourself things are okay?

Re: PCOS First Pregnancy

  • It’s definitely hard to not worry. This may not be for everyone, but I am a facts and numbers person, so for me, looking up a chart that broke down risk of miscarriage by day was helpful because I was able to watch the risk factor dropping each day. Even though I still knew it was a concern, it just made it feel like every day was one day closer to a safer zone.

  • Congratulations! I’m in a similar boat- I’ve had PCOS for years and am now pregnant for the first time. I’m 31 and have spent so much energy worrying about if I’d ever get pregnant, and now this one happened as a complete surprise and my worrying just shifted to if everything is progressing normally.
I’ve talked about this a lot with my therapist and my answer is similar to the one above. I focus on the facts of everything that is going well. I know the warning signs to look out for that warrant a call to my doctor, but I try not to focus on them. Instead I remind myself of all the uncomfortable but positive signs that the pregnancy is healthy- nausea, sore boobs, fatigue, headache, etc. And just my normal stress relieving mechanisms help- a walk, yoga, a bubble bath- whatever helps you unwind.
