  • Anyone else nursing WHILE pregnant? I'm 6w pregnant and my nipple are getting sensitive helllp.
  • It's not painful for me. I'm sorry, I don't have any trick. Maybe lanolin nipple cream? I used it when one of my nipple got painful a few months back.
  • @moogieks Yes! I’m nursing my 2yo and SO SORE when he first latches, but it usually goes away quickly.

  • Helps that we are in it together!
  • Do you nurse a lot? My baby is 7 months so she still feeds 5-6 times a day. Maybe that can influence the process?
  • I don't nurse a lot, just cut down from 3 times to 2 times a day for my 19 mo.
  • @moogieks I haven't nursed while pregnant, but I'm wondering if a nipple shield would help? I had to use one with my babies until they were older to help with latch and a strong letdown. At 19 months though it might be tough for them to transition.

  • Thanks @MandyBeeSLP I'll look into it! I hear it ges better as pregnancy goes on 🤞
  • Hi everyone! I hope you all are feeling well!
Has anyone gotten their results back from the glucose screening? I got my results back today and I have to go back for the glucose tolerance test. I’m pretty upset by it because I generally eat pretty healthy (always not just during pregnancy), I’ve been walking every day, my weight gain is in line with averages that I’ve read, and I have never been overweight. I am going for the test tomorrow and hope everything is good with tomorrow’s test. I just find it so odd that I could have gestational diabetes. Has anyone had to get the tolerance test before or have any advice in general?
  • @nj_newmom Try to not worry too much about it. I haven't done my tolerance test yet (it's tomorrow) but I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes during my last pregnancy.
To some point, the glucose levels can be controlled with a good nutrition and a healthy dose of exercises, but that's only one of the factors. The threshold for gestational diabetes is way lower than type 2 diabetes (I'm not familiar with type 1). And because of pregnancy hormones, your body could have a harder processing things like glucose or not be as sensitive to insulin. There's also the placenta that has started to produced its own hormones and own insulin at this point of pregnancy. So there's a few factors that could lead to gestational diabetes, not just food and exercises.

Just as an example, I personally had trouble with my fasting glucose in the morning and weirdly, to deal with that, I had to make sure I had something sweet right before bed. I tried this under the guidance of a nutritionist. It apparently was because my body produced too much glucose through the night if there wasn't enough available in my system. That's the explanation I got anyway. I still had to take insulin at night as there didn't seem to be a sweet spot between too high of a value and too low of a value for my fasting glucose.

I wish you the best on the tolerance test.

Two of my friends did bad on the screening but passed the tolerance test.
  • @froggerblue thank you soo much! This made me feel better. I didn’t know about a lot of that. I also wouldn’t be too upset with needing a sweet before bed haha! I wish you luck in your screening tomorrow!
  • @nj_newmom I wouldn't know if eating something sweet before bed is the solution for anyone with a high fasting glucose level, but it did help me. It's just that since my value was high, it was counter-intuitive for me to eat something sweet before bed.

What I wanted to share is mostly that even if you did everything perfectly, there are other factors that comes into play. So don't be hard on yourself!
Please update me on how that went for you! I wish you have pleasant news. I've heard a few times were the tolerance test passed even though the screening failed. ❤️
  • @froggerblue that is what helped me I had no idea about all those factors, thank you again! And I’m about to get my last draw so we’ll see in a few days they said! I’ll let you know! I hope yours went well today too! 💕
  • I received my results and surprisingly I don't have gestational diabetes this pregnancy. I can't wait to talk to my doctor about the results. To be honest, we kind of both assumed I would have GD this pregnancy too... 😅
  • I’ve had healthy and thin friends get gestational diabetes.. sometimes it just happens unfortunately
  • @froggerblue yay that’s great news! I’m happy to hear that. Also, those are some fast results! I got mine as well and based on the thresholds I found online published by the Mayo Clinic I think I am in the clear! I’ll wait for my doctor to confirm but feel pretty confident.

Either way thank you, and @mjchristiansen, as it is comforting to know there are more factors to it than I thought!
  • Hello, new to this group, I’m due early December 🤭
  • Welcome to the group!! It's been a bit quiet in the last few weeks. So I joined a discord group too (the link was in one of the first threads). How is your pregnancy going? I read your intro. I also had my first last year at 37 after over 4 years of TTC. I was stressed during my whole pregnancy with worry. I hope you are doing better than I was 😂. That bundle of wonder just got 1 year old last week. I was blessed with this second baby quicker than we expected and it has been a nice journey so far! 😊

Anyone get ultrasound results where their baby’s left ventricle in their brain is at the “upper limits of normal”? My son’s left ventricle is 8.7mm. Normal is anything under 10mm. So I have to go back to high risk so they can make sure that it’s normal (I’m gonna be 40 in a couple weeks so I’m considered high risk but after my sons echo and bloodwork came back normal, the high risk doctor told me I didn’t need to come back- well now my OB is sending me back). I asked my doctor about this and she mentioned hydrocephalus but not to worry because it’s still considered measuring normal. I of course googled hydrocephalus and now I’m freaking out. I go to high risk in the morning to get checked. Has anyone else had experience with this?
  • No I haven't. It does sound unnerving, but try not to stress too much if you can. The measure was within normal range so it looks like your doctor just wants to monitor it, which is usually the case with any condition that could lead to high risk pregnancy. ❤️
  • Anyone else have experience failing the first gestational diabetes screen but passing the tolerance test? I found out today my 1 hr screen results were 154 so I have to go in for the 3 hr screen. Seems there are a lot of stories of people passing the 3 hr after failing the 1 hr. I'd love to hear any stories of how people managed the prep for the 3 hr screen? Or, if you have had gestational diabetes for a pregnancy, how did it go? Thanks, all!
  • @dogmama629, I just had my screen yesterday and my OB said the 1 hour test identifies about 80% of GD at the >139 mg/dl level. I heard that as 20% of folks who fail the 1 hour don’t have GD.

I was on the low end of results, but my SIL had GD and besides not being able to scratch all her cravings when she had them, she didn’t have any issues and didn’t think it was hard to manage! Good luck!
  • Has anyone had a VBAC? I'm torn between a repeat csection and a vbac. I had an emergency c section with my first due to a placenta problem so my doctor says I'm a good candidate for vbac. I'm 37. Wondering if anyone has any helpful information
  • @dogmama629 I have GD and had it in my last pregnancy too. In my case, I passed the 1h test both times, but we still did the 3h tests and failed on the fasting glucose (it's the hardest one to control). When you failed the 3h test, you usually get an appointment with a nutritionist to help you calculate and reorganized your glucose intake throughout the day with protein and fiber. They also tell you to make sure to exercise as it helps process the glucose better. That usually last between 2-3 weeks where you take your blood sugar a few times each day (5 times in my case). If your glucose levels is considered controlled, no meds are required and you keep monitoring your blood sugar. If it's not controlled, you might have to take meds. Personally, I need slow acting insulin to control my fasting glucose. I just have to take it once a day. In my case, it's plenty manageable. Once you are diagnosed with GD, the pregnancy is usually considered high risk and you might have a few more ultrasound to monitor baby's growth better. There are a few risks to manage for mommy, but there are also a few things to look out for for baby. Baby can gain a lot of weight really fast at the end, and that can results in some complications during delivery, that's why most doctor will recommend to have an induction a bit before the 40 weeks mark. The risk for jaundice and hypoglycemia at birth for baby is also a bit higher when the mother had GD. So doctors will look into those things carefully when baby is born. In my case, my first did have jaundice shortly after she was born, but with a lot of milk, baby got better quickly. That's about it for my experience. Hope it helps you!! 😊

@bakeacake37 I personally didn't experienced a c-section, so I only have what people around me told me. Those I know (only two persons) that went through a c-section followed by a vbac seem to have liked the vbac experience. One has had 2 other vaginal births after her c-section and vbac. She explained that she find the recovery quicker and easier. That's only two people though, but it's the only two I know irl who had a vbac.
  • @wednesdayschild and @froggerblue thanks so much for the information and your experiences. It's very helpful to hear from others as I navigate next steps. My first pregnancy was totally smooth and healthy. With this one I'm being monitored for low lying placenta and now the oral glucose fail, so I'm feeling a little anxious about everything in a way I didn't feel with my first. Appreciate the sharing and the support! 💗
  • @dogmama629, I had a low placenta with my first. It moved up quite a bit by labor. Hope yours does too!
  • @dogmama629 It does sound stressful. I hope your doctor is able to provide you with as much information as you need. My sister had placenta praevia (complete obstruction) in her second pregnancy and the one comment that she always says about it is that she would have like more informations from her provider. Since it was a complete obstruction, she had to deliver by c-section and she found the experience more stressful than it should have been because of the lack of information (in her third trimester they switched her doctor and clinic a few times and it caused a lot of confusion for her and the doctors involved...) I hope your doctor gives you all the support you need!!!
  • Thanks so much for those insights @froggerblue!! And sorry to hear your sister's experience wasn't what she had hoped. I was just saying exactly that to my husband last night that I just wish I had more information or understanding about the what ifs. I haven't been able to talk with my OB yet, as this information was all from the perinatalogist due to my advanced maternal age. I trust my OB, so hopeful I can get all my questions answered at my next appointment, but your comments help remind and encourage me to make sure I am asking what I need and continuing to ask until I know I understand what all my options are. Thank you! 💗
  • @dogmama629 Hi! I had a similar question a few posts prior/above as I was nervous about it. I failed the 1 hour but then passed the 3 hour so I suppose I am in the 20% per @wednesdayschild. I wanted the results asap so I went the day after I found out the results from the 1 hour. My dr/lab told me to go for the test basically as they open so that you don't need to fast all day - I didn't do this as there were no earlier appointments and wish I did as I was really hungry by the end. Also, the lab told me when I was there that I could have walked in. Oh well. But telling you in case you can also walk in super early. I also tried to work in the waiting room but it was hard for my job with one screen but did take my mind off being hungry a bit. I'd otherwise recommend bringing a book to pass the time. My husband also stayed with me for moral support which I really appreciated (and still do). Lastly, if you feel confused by the results like I did, @froggerblue and @mjchristiansen posts above (not too far up - my post was on 9/5) were also comforting to learn that a lot lore factors go into the test/GD than I thought…. Good luck!
  • Thanks @nj_newmom! I'm so glad it's all going well for you! And that information is very helpful! I have my tolerance test on Friday and keeping my fingers crossed and hopes high that I pass! Thanks for all the support!
  • @dogmama629 you’re welcome and I hope it went well! Either way, it’ll all work out ☺️ … and it’s nice to have the test over with!
  • breastfeeding and pregnant SO HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO SOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
  • SO HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WITH A 1 YEAR OLD AND HUMUGUS BUMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG
  • @blessed_mother10 Yeah it must be. My daughter is now thirteen months old and I wasn't able to pursue breastfeeding as my production went down quite a lot in the first trimester. My daughter started refusing the breast and seemed to prefer the bottle at that point. I tried to pump for a while but it was getting disheartening so I personally let go.

I hope you find a solution to mitigate the pain that works for you, it sounds quite painful. I know there are a few positions for breastfeeding while pregnant available online. I remember looking it up when I got pregnant and my daughter was still breastfeeding. Good luck!!
