We have decided on Waylon Earl for a boy. According to sneak peek that’s what this little bean is so once we get confirmation from the NIPT it will be official. Earl was my father’s middle name and he passed unexpectedly on July 7th before I had the opportunity to tell him the news.
@cortneylynnn, I love sentimental middle names. Waylon Earl is a great name! My daughter’s middle name is Gloria after both my husbands and my grandmother! It’ll be a bit harder this time around to pick a middle name and choose which side of the family to honor.
@paigemm23 I love all of those names!! Matilda is soooooo cute (nn of Tilly is adorable!) and I’m impartial to Stella since it’s very common in my culture and it’s beautiful
@laj0217 I realize I didn’t answer you! Sorry about that. Some of the goddess names translate to popular modern Greek names, which are all after saints. So it’s possible! What are the names?
If we have a boy he will be Nicholas Alexander, if its a girl Margaret Blair Rose. My husband and I have been together for over a decade and have had the names picked out for what feels like forever!
We just found out yesterday we are having a boy! Jude was always at the top of my list and my partner always liked it but didn’t LOVE it. We were in the car for a while yesterday so he pulled up a list of names and fell in love with Jonah. It’s always been on my list but not in a top spot but for some reason baby feels more like a Jonah than Jude right now. Some middle names we’ve thrown around are Oliver, Ellis, Walker, and Griffin.
@laj0217 Marina was my top pick for my daughter! But MH didn't like the feel/associations it has here in Colombia (where we live and he's from). He preferred Vanessa, and we ended up going with Carla.
@paigemm23 I know a little Winnie, and I'm pretty sure it's not short for anything.
For a boy we plan to go with Jude Wayne or Wayne Jude, for family members we love and lost. Other boy names I really like are Eamon and Graeme, but not enough to trade for something sentimental.
For a little girl H's favorite name is Eilidh (pronounced "A" Lee) and my favorite is Marsaili. We both also love Claire and think that is a great middle name choice for either first name.
Other girl names I like are Elena, Cecelia, Scarlette, Eloise, and Lianna, but I just don't like them as much as my top choice.
Still lots of time so I'm open to looking at other options for girl names, but as we will know the sex of the baby soon I'll just wait and see before going too far down a rabbit hole!
@laj0217 Congrats! I wouldn't have been able to resist peeking either. Have fun coming up with another boy name!
Oh, it's just that it's usually in the combination of "Luz Marina" (I've never heard of or met just a Marina here) and it has an old-lady/older generation vibe. MH said it made him think of a spinster aunt, boo.
I am all over the place with names this time around!!!! At least we have time😅 first time we had a top 3 almost instantly and decided on a name by 20 weeks. This baby I can’t seem to narrow anything down!!! Do other husbands actually suggest names? Because mine just vetos 🙃
my current list: Daisy- we both love but our last name starts with a D as well and we keep going back and forth on it being cute or too much? Elowyn- nickname Winnie. I love but haven’t gotten DH on board.
Marigold- nickname Goldie. Like the last, I love but DH isn’t sold.
Cecelia- we both like this name but not a love for now.
Mallory- I really like this name but my husband is on the fence about it because he has a coworker by the name that he isn’t a fan of. But I really do like it!
@paigemm23 You eventually have to decide on whether it’s too much. Both my husband and I have the initials BB and didn’t want to do that to DS so we did something different, however our reasoning was that we didn’t want an entire family of matching initials, it was too tiresome. I think for one person it’s not bad. And I like Cecelia. My husband and I are probably doing what we did last time: coming to each other with a list, narrowing down to one from each we like, then fighting over the order. 😆
It only took two minutes to come up with a name: Alexander Miles. I was telling my husband that the baby kicked me and he said we needed to tell him to knock it off, then he started throwing names out. I liked two of his suggestions but when I tossed out Alexander he loved it! DS suggested Miles and we agreed. A lot easier and quicker than last time. 😊
Well we just told our big kids (DS 5, DD 3) last night and if it's a boy they want to name it James, and for a girl Lilyana. Great names! But those are *their* names hahahaha
So far we are loving Matteo or Luca for our baby boy. My fiancé is Italian and I want an Italian first name. My dad looked up the most popular names in 2023 and of course both are on the top 10 list. I’m an Emily and have spent my whole life having the same name as so many others, one of my best friends is an Emily as well. Should I let the name popularity sway my decision?
@eclaire90, I love Luca but was never able to get my husband on board! I’ve read a lot about name popularity because my daughter’s name is in the top ten. The top popular names these days aren’t nearly as popular as common names 20+ years ago! I’ll probably butcher this example but say the number one name in 2000 was Britney with 30,000 babies born with that name. And in 2023 the number one name could be Olivia but there 11,000 babies born to that name. I just made up the names and numbers but hopefully that makes sense? You could probably look up the name popularity in your area as well but in my opinion, if you love a name that should be all that matters!
Going with Sarah Louise “Sally”. Sarah is my sister and Louise is my grandmother who helped raise me. Our family names girls after their aunts going back 5 generations. Her daughter shares my middle name, Katherine.
Thoughts on Sally vs Sallie spelling for her nickname. My husband has an aunt Sally.
I think we are heavily leaning toward Zoe, it’s so beautiful in Greek and English and we both like it, plus DD is loving it as well. We are trouble-shooting a middle name, Alexandra is a very strong female name in my family, but H is not convinced. He likes Anastasia (his mom is Anne, but he actually prefers not to name a baby a family name, which is mind-boggling to me, lol). We both like Athena. So:
Zoe Alexandra Zoe Anastasia Zoe Athena
I also like: ZoeTheodosia (my mom’s name)
For context, DD is Norah Elizabeth (middle name being a family name). So we will have Norah and Zoe as sisters 😭😍
@eclaire90 love both those names! And I agree with @paigemm23 that the popularity of names is spread out so it's not like when I had 4 girls named Jessica and 5 boys named Chris in my class. Also the trends shift and my James isn't even in the top 10 anymore but it wouldn't have swayed us from using a name we loved
@dunder_mifflin love Zoe! And any of those MN sound good with it!
I finally have my short list together for baby girl! Middle name will be either Florence or Iris (family honor names).
1. Elowen with the nickname Winnie. This is my top pick and have had it in my head since we found out baby was a girl. I do like the “Elowyn” spelling but like the traditional more.
2. Delilah. This is my husbands top pick right now. I like it but not in love with it.
@paigemm23 I just met a little preschooler named Elowyn and loved it! (Gives me Lord of the Rings vibes which I'm into)
I think we're settled on Gabriel Matthew if a boy. If baby is a girl we're considering Adelaide, Isabell, Sofia. With potential middle names some variation of Joyce/ Joy or Ruth, maybe. Ha.
I enjoyed reading the comments with Greek names because I have a couple of neighbors from Greece. One of those families, Mom's name: Ioanna Elder daughter's name: Hero Younger daughter's name: Calliope
My children don't think their names are "weird" they accept the names just like anyone else's and I'm grateful for that. My kids really love this family because they're very kind and fun to spend time with.
My son's name is Tyrian after a game of thrones character and after we told him we were pregnant he said this baby should have a game of thrones name too. So in the show Tyrian has a brother named Jamie and a sister named Cersei. My boyfriend has a son named Jameson so "Jamie". And since the baby ended up being a girl her name will be Cersei. Then my catholic mom has 2 middle names so I asked her which one she liked better with Cersei and she chose Leona. So baby girl will be Cersei Leona.
