The only things I’m getting this kid are a car seat because my infant seat is expired and a mini crib because our regular crib won’t fit in the guest room. And of course diapers.

I’ll be digging out my boppy nursing pillow, my baby swing, haakaa, burp cloths, clothes, nose Frida, baby monitor, and nursing tank tops and postpartum supplies for me. Also nipple shields because neither of my other two could latch without them for the first 8 weeks.  Eventually there will be sleep sacks involved, I might use the diaper pail when poops start to stink, a play mat for tummy time, a couple muslin blankets. I’ll get out the changing pad and removable covers. Swaddles are good. I’ve got a ring sling, a mei dai, and a lillebaby structured carrier for different uses.

Mirror for the car to see into the rear facing seat. Some basic baby toys for teething. Baby bath to prop him up in the tub.

I’ll get a new breast pump with insurance. I’ll need to sanitize my bottles and parts and get out my bottle steam sanitizer.

If I were going back to work and needing to warm up cold breastmilk from the fridge often I’d consider a bottle warmer. But my kids only take bottles if I want to go out and dad is in charge.

That’s all I can think of. I’ll add more if I think of more.

This is going to be long so I’ll put things in categories/different posts. Referencing my old & current registries. I love Babylist for registry making. You can add items from anywhere and it gives your guests multiple links/prices so they can buy from their website of choice (if the item is sold in multiple stores).

    Feeding

bottles - trying dr browns glass this time but I used their plastic and liked them the best. Other ones I tried but didn’t like that much: boon, tommee tippee, avent.
Bottle warmer - dr brown, I had a munchkin last time & it was fine.
    Burp cloths
Bibs - silicone catch ones & I’ve also used the bandana cloth kind
High Chair - trying maxi cosi moa this time. Had a graco but there were too many crevices & was hard to take apart/get back together. So I tossed it.
    Plates, bowls, toddler utensils
Sippy cups, water bottles w straws. I like the 360 cups and still use them.
    Snack cups (screw on lid)
I didn’t like the mesh feeders, they were a pain to clean
Reusable pouches (yogurt, applesauce etc, saves money!)
Drying rack for bottles etc. I sanitize either by boiling or dishwasher. But I like to let air dry after before assembling.
If pumping & going back to work: Cooler bag for bottles
milk storage bags (I didn’t make a freezer stash so didn’t use these much)
Pump + parts you should get from insurance!
Bottle wipes (also can be used for pacis!)
Haaka for catching letdown on other breast
    Nipple cream
Breast pads (disposable + washable bamboo from kindred bravely)
    Nursing clothing if you want!

ETA pumping bra!!!! Learned the hard way when I had to sit there holding them until I got one 😂

    Sleeping

I got a ton of blankets at my shower so I don’t think you necessarily need to register for them, unless you want a specific kind. I found that people went rogue for blankets though!

    Crib
    Crib sheets
    Mattress
Waterproof Mattress Cover but depends on your mattress
Cloth Covers for top of rails of the crib (when baby can stand & start chewing on the rails, they will gnaw the paint off)
    Bassinet
    Bassinet sheets
    Sound Machine - I have a yogisleep & had a hatch that I liked.
Swaddles (my son was a Houdini so regular blankets didn’t work, I didn’t care for the swaddleme it was hard to keep him in and gave me anxiety) I preferred the halo sleep sack with zipper and Velcro. Tried zipadee zip, and another one I can’t remember and wasn’t a fan.
    Baby monitor, I have vtech

    Diapering

Changing pad (doesn’t have to be fancy, I put on top of baby’s dresser)
Changing pad covers (get a few because…blowouts & flying pee)
Diaper pail - we have a diaper genie, first one broke & second one is okay. Price is good but refills…& doesnt keep smell in that well. My MIL just bought us an Ubbi I’m excited to use it, will report back!
Diapers - can register for specific kind but I found that people brought whatever they wanted, only person who listened to what I wanted at the time was my MIL. After using all the diaper I got I eventually switch to Costco diapers and haven’t looked back. I do like pampers & Huggies for newborn though❤️
I cared way too much about diapers & then realized they’re all fine & to get what you can afford.
Diaper cream - like aquaphor healing ointment the best! Heals up rashes/redness quickly. Also desitin is good.
Wipes - I also get Costco brand, I do like pampers wipes, they’re moister but I like the amount I get at Costco for around $20ish
I never used a portable changing pad, always just used a blanket.
Never tried a wipe warmer because everyone said they didn’t use it, but dang wipes are really cold! lol maybe I’ll get one this time.
  • Baby Gear

Diaper bag - I’m partial to backpacks, think about what will be easiest for you to carry while juggling the infant seat and anything else!
Rocker/baby seat - trying maxi cosi kori, way cheaper than baby bjorn but same concept
Stroller - I liked saving money last time by doing a car seat/stroller bundle, this time I’m getting a double so it’s separate. Graco ready 2 grow lx
Baby Wrap - solly is on my list, the one I had for my son didn’t fit me well and it was frustrating to wear. I also have a Lille baby structured Carrier that I liked.
Swing - I have a graco that worked well it went back & forth and was more affordable. My son didn’t like being in there for long, he was a clingy lil thing (still is lol)

Thermometer - I’m using a lot of fridababy products this time. I like having a thermometer that can take rectal temp for little ones.
Electric nose Frida - pricier than the original sucker one but I found that hard to do with a baby so I’m trying this one this time. Definitely recommended for their first cold!
Frida baby windi - they get gassy !
gas drops - I usually just get these at the store, dye free. Helpful I think!
Humidifier - I had the crane last time & its kinda bulky, trying Frida baby 3 in 1 humidifier, diffuser (probably won’t use this setting), and nightlight.
Pacifiers - my son used as a newborn and then kicked them. Trying 3 kinds - dr browns, Phillips avent, and nanobebe
    pacifier togo holder
    Pacifier clip

    Bathing

Bathtub - fridababy bundle with pourer, I had a different bath last time & it was fine just wanted something different
Toy Scoop & Store - oxo tot (haven’t tried this one yet)
    Bath toys
    Wash cloths
Baby soap - I use honest or Burt’s bees baby ( I got some random soap at my shower that I used up too)
Comb/Brush - even if your baby doesn’t have a lot of hair, they’ll probably get cradle cap. I like having a fine tooth comb …some coconut oil & a comb gets those crusties & flakes right off. Haven’t tried the cradle cap brush from them.
Towels - I don’t care for microfiber (everything sticks to them in the wash), I ended up using regular towels after a while.
Body lotion - just because it’s super cute to rub lotion on their lil legs and arms and they can get dry skin. I have used baby aveeno, Burt’s bees baby, hello bello
Nail Clippers - I have a pair with a little magnifying glass, also have a baby dremel
Gum toothbrush - good to get them in the habit of brushing teeth, also my son got his first around 3-4 months

    Playtime
    Suction toy for high chair
Floor mat with activity bar & sensory toys
    Toys for 1st year
Jumper/activity center. My son loved his.
Teething toys - frozen keys, silicone rattles, gloves with silicone on them.
Boppy - good for elevated supervised tummy time and when they start sitting up on their own

    Clothing

I would wait to see what you get gifted, but you can always register for any outfits you really love -coming home outfit etc.
    - onesies
    -little pants/shorts
    -zipper footed pjs or nightgowns
    -socks
    -few pairs of mittens
-It will be almost summer so not even sure about hats? Depending on your climate.
Also Register for bigger clothes sizes!

Nursery (I never had one but these are things I had in my room for the baby)

Dresser - I have a delta children one on mine, simple
Drawer Dividers - going to try these
Baby hangers - if using a closet
Cube Organizer - for toys / books
    Baskets for organizing
** i did not have a recliner or glider, too much money and since I was in my room I just sat on my bed to nurse etc
Since I didn’t have a chair I do have a big pillow with arm rests that helps me sit up on my bed.
Hamper (if keeping baby clothes separate)
I used baby detergent because my son had really sensitive skin as a baby. Now I wash his clothes with ours.
  • My thoughts on the Ubbi diaper pail:
    pros -
no refills to buy, uses regular trash bags!
less chance of breaking, my H somehow broke the springs off our first diaper genie
easy to pop the diapers in, no shoving in like the diaper genie
small but still holds a decent amount of diapers
    cute color choices

    Cons -
have to smell poop every time you open it (if put poopy diapers in there)
overall it does a pretty good job at keeping the smell in, however if you get close to it you can still smell it a bit.

Overall i’m happy with it and will keep it. Newborn poops don’t smell as bad as toddler poops so I’m hoping it won’t be as much of a stink. And I hope to have my son potty trained by the time she arrives anyway.

  • Thank you so much for all of the registry tips! I took the suggestion from @virtaur and started a babylist registry which is super convenient to have everything in one place and link any site that I want. I also made a registry at Amazon and Target to get those perks, but it's all linked on the babylist registry where I can see everything in one place!

I've worked really hard on the registry the past couple of weeks. I love to deep dive into product reviews, comparisons, articles and consumer reports and it becomes a somewhat unhealthy obsession, but I am feeling accomplished with the results! I know some things will still be lead by baby and what is most convenient for our lives after this change, but starting from zero has really been overwhelming. I'm feeling better with the good amount of basics that have been covered. Still waiting on some clothing and nursery decor until we know the gender (it's a very gendered world out there), but I've found myself in a little bit of a rainbow theme for this baby! 🌈 It is not a rainbow baby and I am trying to reign it in so it doesn't look like rainbows threw up everywhere, but I couldn't resist some of the sweet rainbow baby items!

@stress_engine yay! I’m glad you’re feeling better about it and have a good start! It can be pretty time consuming to do the research but it pays off! What are some items you have picked out so far? Also rainbows are very cute! I especially like how there’s neutral palette ones too!
  • I’ve been working on mine occasionally. I switched out some things like the baby bath when I read more reviews. I’m going with this fisher price one and plus it’s cheaper.

  • This is the dream list, but there are lots of other great quality options out there if we can't get everything. Higlights from my selections:

    - Phillips Advent glass natural bottles & bottle warmer

    - Haakka manual breast pump & collector
(Still deciding on electronic breast pump)

    - Momcozy silicone reusable breastmilk storage bags
(Not completely sure how breastfeeding, bottle feeding, pumping, and storage is all supposed to work together but if I need more storage bags in large quantity I'm sure can find some later on)

    - Boppy nursing pillow (w/ rainbow cover!)

    - Lalo high chair & accessories

    - Happiest Baby Sleepea bundle

    - Hatch Rest+ sound machine
(Not completely convinced that I need this item, but I like some of the features)

    - Infant Optics digital video monitor
(As a saftey precaution, we like that it doesn't use wi-fi)

    - HALO BassiNest Soothing Swivel Sleeper

    - Munchkin STEP Diaper Pail

    - Itzy Ritzy Boss Plus Backpack Diaper Bag & matching bottle bag and other accessories

    - Hello Bello Diaper fund
(Initially I liked the idea of a diaper subscription that gets regularly delivered, but I'm thinking I might remove this)

    - DoHonest Baby Car Camera
(Only $35 on Amazon and it seems like everyone who has a car camera really loves it)

    - Ergobaby Omni 360 All-Position Baby Carrier

    - Chicco Corso LE Modular Travel System
    - Chicco MyFit Zip Air 2-in-1 Harness + Booster

    - Maxi-Cosi Swift Lightweight Portable Playard

    - Frida Baby for various grooming and health products

    - OXO Tot Space Saving Drying Rack & dishwasher basket

    - LEVOIT LV600HH 6L Warm and Cool Mist Ultrasonic Humidifier
(Still need to pick an air purifier for the nursery also)

    - Lalo Bathtime Starter Kit - Tub & Accessories

    - Babyletto Palma 4-in-1 Convertible Crib & matching dresser & nightstand

    - Sealy Cozy Cool Hybrid 2-Stage matress

    - Boppy Tummy Time Prop (w/ rainbows!)

    - Upseat Baby Floor & Booster Seat with Tray

    - Lovevery Play Gym & Sensory Strands Bundle

    - Babybjörn Bouncer Bliss
(This item kind of picked me since I found it heavily discounted at a local outlet store which gets surplus from major retailers)

    - 4moms MamaRoo Multi-Motion Baby Swing

Some extra things I didn't anticipate, but found in my search:

    - Dapple Baby, Bottle and Dish Soap

    - Dreft laundry detergent, booster beads, & stain remover

    - KeaBabies Prep Silicone Baby Food Freezer Trays

    - Munchkin Arm & Hammer Nursery Fresheners

    - Munchkin White Hot Safety Bath Ducky
  • @stress_engine thank you for sharing!! I love that you found the baby bjorn discounted! That’s awesome.
I used the dapple baby bottle soap last time and it was useful but I think I’ll just use regular soap this time, I also use the dishwasher. However it’s good to have a brush as well because for formula it sometimes clumps on the bottom or sides and for BM the fat can get stuck on the sides.
I also used dreft but I’m trying this powder detergent and going to see if I like it.

  • @virtaur yes, the babybjörn was a great find! This local store is a hidden gem! When you see something good you have to act fast since they are constantly rotating inventory. Very unique local business!

Good to know on the soap. For stuff like that I figured might as well throw it on the registry! I don't know how big of a shower we'll end up with, but we can always reassess our priorities after.
  • @stress_engine that’s so cool! Definitely sounds like a helpful store! & oh of course, I put everything on mine. Even if people don’t get it for you it’s nice to have it in one place so you can check it off as you get it yourself! I’ve already been able to check off a few things on mine :)

@virtaur Lol I’m the type of person who is SO stressed out just seeing your phone have that low of battery in one of your photos ha
  • @louloumama hehe my phone is chronically on low battery I usually charge it sometime during the day when its about to die 😂
  • This is random but I thought about it while thinking about baby stuff I need. I only used the bottle warmer when grabbing a bottle from the fridge. Otherwise I’d use room temp water usually from a water bottle if I was making formula. I know people use purified water or boil it themselves but I always just used regular bottled water.
  • Graco double stroller 11% off on Amazon in case anyone wanted this one. I do but idk if I can get it right now 😭

H and I started a registry on Amazon and listed everything we think we might need just so they're covered by the 15% completion discount. Here's what we've received so far (and a number we bought ourselves because of sweet Black Friday deals lol):

    - Graco Pack n Play Travel Dome Playard
    - Boba wrap carrier
    - Ergobaby All Carry Positions Breathable Mesh Baby Carrier
    - Ingenuity Keep Cozy 3-in-1 Grow with Me Vibrating Baby Bouncer Seat & Infant to Toddler Rocker
    - Fisher-Price Baby Portable Baby Chair Sit-Me-Up Floor Seat with Snack Tray and Developmental Toys
    - Frida Baby 4-in-1 Grow-with-Me Bath Tub
    - Skip Hop Moby Baby Bath Essential Set, Grey
    - BabbleRoo Baby Diaper Bag Backpack
    - Huggies Newborn Diapers, Little Snugglers Baby Diapers, Size Newborn
    - Keekaroo Peanut Changer Vanilla
    - Munchkin Step Diaper Pail Powered by Arm & Hammer and refills
    - Philips AVENT Anti-Colic Baby Bottles with AirFree Vent, 9 oz and 4 oz sizes
    - eufy Security Spaceview Video Baby Monitor E110
    - HALO Bassinest 3.0 Swivel Sleeper
    - Kendall crib and matching extra wide dresser
    - Comfort Small Spaces Manual Swivel Recliner
    - GRACO SnugRide SnugFit 35 Elite Infant Car Seat

Notable things we still need to get:
    - crib mattress and sheets (looking at Graco Premium Crib & Toddler Mattress)
    - bassinet sheets
    - baby health and care (Frida Baby Ultimate Baby Kit or piecemeal these together)
    - baby safe detergent (Molly's Suds Baby Laundry Detergent Powder)
    - a high chair that can grow with baby (looking at  Tripp Trapp High Chair from Stokke, hoping I can find a deal on this!)
    - drawer and closet organizers for all of the clothes and books we've been gifted
    - baby bottle drying rack
    - manual and electronic breast pumps (looking at haakaa for manual, and Bellababy Wearable Breast Pump for electronic)
    - breastfeeding accessories
    - infant formula for just in case breastfeeding doesn't work out
    - stroller (we're going with Graco SnugRider Elite Car Seat Carrier for now, and updating this when we update the car seat)
    - diapers in bigger sizes

Has anyone tried the Owlet Dream Sock or a similar foot monitor? I'd love to hear your thoughts and if it was worth the purchase.
  • @denise_amd I had the owlet with my now 3 year old, and honestly... we used it a handful of times and then shoved it somewhere and it disappeared, lol. That being said, we keep baby in our room for the first year so he was always right there, it may have been used more if we transitioned to room earlier on.
  • @bserena we're planning on keeping baby in our room for at least the first six months, so it may be just as useful for us as it was for you lol

As a second time mom, I’ve learned a lot! I used Babylist for my registry since you can add items from any store, and Amazon is also great. Must haves include plenty of diapers (Pampers, Hello Bello), Love to Dream swaddles, and a Nanit Pro baby monitor. I like Carter’s for clothes, Mustela for skincare, and Dr. Brown’s for bottles. Wipe warmers and fancy outfits were a waste for us since babies outgrow them fast. For first-time moms, start early to spread out costs. I recently found great deals on baby products through Good Morning America’s deals segment, so keep an eye out for discounts on https://www.dealsandstealstoday.com/!
