Anyone not excited about their bump?

edited July 2024 in 1st Trimester
I’m 11 weeks Friday and I guess bc I’m short and little I am already showing some. Hell some might be bc I’m not pooping much 😂. But I feel bad seeing all these women say they’re so excited and can’t wait to show etc. I just feel fat. I hate feeling like that and like I wish I was smaller again because I know it’s a miracle I’m pregnant. I used to have an eating disorder a long time ago so maybe that has something to do with it.  I figure I can’t be the only one feeling like this!

  • Don’t feel bad! I think this is pretty normal. I wasn’t super excited to start showing. I think it’s common for the changes to start to bring up old body image issues, but it’s definitely something to keep an eye on to make sure it doesn’t become a bigger problem.

At this point what you’re seeing is mostly bloat, unfortunately - making sure you’re hydrated and getting enough fiber can help, and if that doesn’t do it your OB or midwife can recommend some solutions 😊
  • Thanks!!  I read this thing that said if you suck in and you can’t suck in just the bottom part then it’s not but who knows haha.  I do feel kinda bloated but also weird feeling different.  I’ve been drinking water, taking miralax, eating lots of fruit.  This is my first time making it this far in pregnancy so it’s still new to me!!   Thanks for your kind words :)  I go to new doctor tomorrow now that I “graduated” my other one so I’ll ask her too. Hope you’re doing well!

The uterus doesn't really get big enough or start growing beyond the pelvis until early in the 2nd trimester, maybe week 14-15 or so. So until then any bump probably is just bloat, but it might also depend on your body type pre-pregnancy, or if this isn't your first pregnancy you might show a little earlier.
I thought I had a small bump earlier on in my pregnancy too, but now that I do actually have a bump I can confirm that it was definitely just bloat. My actual bump is pretty firm, like nearly rock hard, because my uterus is flush up against my belly and full of water (amniotic fluid). I would say if you poke your bump and it's squishy, then it's not really a bump, most likely bloat.

I believe your reaction is quite normal, so please don't be too hard on yourself. Even though my pregnancy was planned, I experienced a moment of panic after getting a positive test result. I spent a few days crying in private, and eventually, I decided to confide in my mom not because I was excited, but because I needed reassurance and support to calm my fears. However, as time passed, I began to adjust to the idea and started feeling emotionally better. Give yourself some time and see if your feelings start to change. Talking to a therapist has personally helped me feel more prepared for this journey too!

I read it does at 12 weeks but diff apps could say say diff things I guess. They confirmed my baby had already moved to my stomach 🤷‍♀️I think it’s baby and bloat. I still feel so fat haah oh  well. Breathing also changed as soon as baby moved up. Hopefully will get used to it soon!!  Thanks
