I'm hoping to get a little more traction going on this board. I would love to start getting to know you all better. So if you are comfortable sharing, please tell us about yourself. For some of the first timers, with my last BMB I lurked for like 4 months before I was comfortable and now have a handful of close friends from the group that have a WhatsApp group message.
I'm April. I'm 39 so "advanced maternal age" lol. My husband is 35 and my daughter is 1 (16 months). We live in Arizona and have 2 cats Elsie and Rory and one dog Murphy. I don't seem to have the time these days but I love reading, knitting/crocheting, and watching TV/Movies.
Re: Introductions/GTKY
@kamays54 we have similar hobbies! I also like to read and crochet in my spare time! Just went and bought lots of yarn this weekend excited to start working on a blanket for my little one!
My hobbies currently are talking about how nauseous I am and trying not to fall asleep on the couch. But normally I love yoga, reading, and planning a beach vacation.
We also have 2 dogs, a pig, 20 ducks and around 75 chickens!
@boba07 I'm jealous! I really wanted to make something for my first but just couldn't find the time. Luckily my mom also loves to crochet and she made 3 blankets and a stuffed dog for my daughter before she was born and a 4th blanket and some bunny ears for her first easter after she was born. My sister-in-law also learned recently how to crochet and made her a stuffed animal. I made a stuffed bear for both of her boys when they were born so she wanted to make something in return. It was so sweet.
@kmtz89 What made you move to Tanzania? If you don't mind me asking. I see that your husband is Tanzanian but did you meet there or in the states and move back with him? Not that this is the same, but I moved from New Jersey to Arizona by myself and that was a huge adjustment for me so I'm just curious.
I’m Kalyn & I’m 33. I have one daughter from my previous marriage (she’ll be 6 in August). I live with her and my husband in Alabama! We have 2 orange cats - Macaroni & Cheese! We love antiquing and spending time with both of our families watching football and cooking out. My husband is Belarusian so we’re gonna have a little American/Belarusian baby and we’re so excited. This will be his first and he is over the moon!
@fk18 so cool you’re also in the PNW. Im not there yet i guess but hopefully soon😅 are you closer to seattle or portland? Im from further south, not far from PDX.
@kendyb77 exciting with twins! Maybe you’ve already shared somewhere else but are they same sac or separate?
@boba07 ooo fun to start a new project for the baby!! Maybe i need to start a new project too. Maybe that would bring my motivation back!
@bass04 haha i relate all too well to your new hobbies…taking about nausea and falling asleep everywhere😂 lets hope this gets better soon🤞🏼
@kmtz89 what is life like where you live? Im assuming you dont live in a city with all your chickens?? If you ever feel like sharing pictures of the area that would be cool!
Life is mostly slow really. Tanzanian's would say "pole pole" which literally translates to slowly. Everything takes way longer than you could ever expect, but I've come to love it in a way. We live our lives mostly outdoors, its sunny almost every day, day time temperatures range from around 65-70F in cold season to 85-90F in hot season. Stones throw from my house there is multiple little shops where I can find most of my day to day necessities, and for special items we can go to one of a few big supermarkets in town. It's normal to walk places, and there is lots of places in walking distance. Kids are independent early on, its normal to see a 3 or 4 year old walking to the local shop for a loaf of bread or to the vegetable stand, but also there is definitely the "village mindset" of raising kids. Everyone looks out for each other. I love it really.
We live in the Denver area with a cat and a dog. When I'm not exhausted, lifting weights is my passion, but these days my activity level is more dog walking. I'm also a big reader and love cute coffee shops.
I may be the OG of the group at age 43! I'll be 2.5 months away from 44 when baby boy is born. The pregnancy was a surprise, not only because we were not trying, but also after a history of miscarriages. When I was 39, almost 40, I saw an endocrinologist to check my eggs, and I was told I was in the less than 30% of both quality and quantity. I had resigned that I was not going to be a mom in this lifetime once I hit over 40 and had another miscarriage.
Prior to being with my partner and now husband, I focused a lot on my career and moved around a few times, including San Francisco and Toronto, but spent most of my time (10 years) in NYC. My husband is active duty military and we are currently based on O'ahu, Hawai'i, having lived here for nearly 2 years, we are now moving to the Washington, D.C. area next month (I'll be 21-22 weeks). While we are in love with Hawai'i and traveling in this side of the world, we feel very grateful and fortunate we will be closer to family and close friends based on the East Coast and South, especially with new baby on the way.
We love to travel abroad, supporting local restaurants and small businesses, and spending time outdoors including fun hiking trails. We're also looking at getting a dog! My parents, brother and nephews (whom I'm close to) have a rescue pit who is the most kindest, sweetest and loving senior dog, but I've been looking at getting a golden retriever. I think it'll be great for baby boy to grow up with one! I grew up as a youth athlete and worked in the sports and entertainment industry for a long time, so naturally am a sports fan. I love watching tennis, soccer, and can't wait to tune into the Olympics in a few weeks!
I am Becca (34). I live in Kentucky with my husband (29). Yes, please call me a cougar
We are expecting our first after years of being "fence-sitters" on whether or not to have a kid. I work in research with a background in social services, mental health, and trauma. The first half of 2024 was pretty crazy for me - I left a job I loved, started a new job, lost my heart and soul dog ( @peacefuladventures a rescue pit who was my constant companion and best friend for 14 years - pits are the very very best) , lost a close friend to cancer, and got pregnant all within 5 months. Shew! Life is really life-ing right now
My favorite things to do are pretty much anything outside - hiking, camping, traveling, going for walk, swimming.
I have loved getting to know all y'all from these posts! Grateful to have a group to walk through this wild journey with!
