Re: Product Spotlight: Cribs Etc.

  • We have a crib from target. I think it’s delta children? It’s been nice but my son didn’t use it much, I’ll use it again! One thing I wish I got sooner was a cover for the rails. Once my son could stand he started chewing on them. I got ones from amazon.
i used the crib to contain him until he learned how to climb and I came in from the bathroom and he was on top of his dresser/table that was next to the crib 😅
For bassinet I used a graco pack n play with the infant bassinet on top. That worked well but it is kinda bulky for the room. I like the multi use feature though. I might use the pack n play again but I got rid of the infant part so I’d just use the regular bassinet part.
I do have a halo (the cheapest one) on my registry but I Doubt I’ll get it. I like the idea of it being smaller for the room but it’s money I don’t necessarily need to spend.
I will get a couple of new sheets for both the pack n play and the crib. I don’t plan on setting up/using the crib for a while though.
When my son was 6 months-ish we started bed sharing. I never thought I would but I was falling asleep mid-feed and scared I would drop him or he would get hurt so I decided to have him sleep next to me. There are definitely pros and cons but for the most part I do enjoy having him close. I might still try to get him in his own bed though before the baby gets here.
i don’t plan on bed sharing with a newborn since they’re so tiny. I still remember the panic of waking up and thinking my son was in the bed under the covers yet he was swaddled up in his bassinet. That’s some crazy stuff 😅
I’ve never had a dockatot or snuggle me. I know people let their babies sleep in them but they’re not meant for sleep. Learned that in my last BMB! I did have the now recalled boppy infant lounger and I’m so glad nothing bad ever happened to my son because it is inevitable they fall asleep everywhere.

  • We have two cribs, one converts to a toddler bed. But we are looking at getting a mini crib this time to fit in our room. I’m really loving the breathablebaby mesh mini crib, but it’s more than I wanted to spend. I’m gonna wait and see if there are any sales on it. Because my first two refused to spend any time in a bed alone until they were 6-8 months.

I used the dock a tot with my son for naps when I was in the room watching him. It was nice to be nap trapped less so I could entertain my toddler. But you’re right, they’re not technically for sleep and certainly not for all night. But if I can get this kid to sleep on any flat surface without touching me I’ll consider it a win.
  • @HGRich I think they’re def fine if you’re awake watching them like you said! I’ve just seen people put them in cribs for night sleep and that makes me nervous for sure.
  • My mom has a wooden rocking bassinet in the attic that has been passed around since the 1950s. We've also been offered a wooden rocking chair from my husband's grandma and there was recent talk from FIL about a wooden rocking horse and a wooden high chair in the in-laws basement. Definitely concerned about the silly little things like safety, function, comfort, bulkiness, and it just not being what I want at all. Pray for me y'all! 😢
  • @stress_engine we had wooden bassinets in the family too, but I think they stopped getting passed around.
You can always accept them but use them as decor/storage if you’re not comfortable with using them for sleep etc!
  • Hi! So I'll be the odd one out and I know this can get controversial so hopefully that doesn't happen lol, but wanted to share my experience and what I do. We bedshare, following the safe sleep 7. I was all about the crib until I had my son, and that all went out the window, lol! I BF so having baby next to me is a lifesaver. We have a very firm mattress, no pillows or blankets during newborn stage, no one near baby but me, etc. (this is all part of the safe sleep 7). I just wanted to share because a lot of suffocation deaths are because it is done unsafely, and in those newborn days, sometimes moms are so exhausted that they end up falling asleep with baby in unsafe positions, on a chair, etc. I think it is important that moms know how to bedshare safely if needed. There is a FB group called "Biologically Normal Infant & Toddler Sleep" that is incredible and I highly recommend it for FTMs!

We will get a moses basket to have as an option, and still have my sons delta children crib in case this baby does well sleeping alone, but I am pro-safe bedsharing so that will likely be the case for this baby too. My son has slept with us since about 3 weeks, turns 3 today, and is an amazing sleeper.
