Interesting baby fact/Baby is the size of: a ferret
Upcoming appointments: 10/17
How are you feeling: tired, huge, not ready 🙈
Rants / Raves: Rant: my parents who live about 14 hours away asked when they could plan on visiting and I just didn’t know what to tell them… I feel bad but bc of the distance they’ll want to stay a while and I just absolutely hate that during the newborn stage. I hate other people holding my babies and I want to be able to just nurse in peace and not entertain people all day… I miss the part of Covid where we could not see anyone for a year 😬
Questions: none
GTKY: What is your favorite dessert?: I like all the desserts 🤣 I enjoy baking and decorating cakes. When I’m out I love creme brûlée bc it’s something I don’t really make. I always get an ice cream cake for my bday though, except the year I was dairy free for DS2’s reflux. I’ve been in a pie mood lately and basically baking another pie as soon as we finish one…

Interesting baby fact/Baby is the size of: Supposedly a head of lettuce. Although at my appointment last Thursday they estimated a weight of 9 lbs 4 oz. I'm done.
Upcoming appointments: 10/18 for baby's eviction!
How are you feeling: Nauseous and emotional. Scared about the spinal, scared about the possibility of NICU time for this kid, scared about doing it all on my own immediately afterward since DH has zero time off outside of his normal days and still being expected to heal physically and be ok mentally.
Rants / Raves: I'm sick of not being able to do much. My belly is so heavy - huge kid plus higher than normal amniotic fluid. Doing anything at this point takes so much out of me.
I love my OB. I had my last appointment with her today and it was very laid back and reassuring. So glad I ended up switching to her early on!
Questions: nope
GTKY: What is your favorite dessert?: Currently DQ Blizzards with cheesecake chunks.
@varimama - I feel like I would have hated having a newborn during covid but at the same time I imagine it was super nice not having to make excuses about why people couldn't visit. I'm with you on just wanting peace and quiet and not having to worry about covering up to nurse and entertain anyone. I'm dreading my in-laws coming next week. But at least I'll be at the hospital for most of the time they're here and they've been told we're not taking visitors at the hospital at all.
Rant: I am basically useless lol. I’m so huge and baby boy is so low I am struggling just to move. Also today got swollen ankles and I’ve never had that before and I hate it lol
Rave: my sister is coming into town on Friday for the weekend! She is my very best friend. We are only 18 months apart and grew up extremely close. I cannot wait to see her!
Questions:

GTKY: What is your favorite dessert?:
I love a rich, dense chocolate cake with chocolate fudge icing and a scoop of vanilla ice cream 🤤
Today for my 36 week appointment and next week for my 37 week appointment
How are you feeling:
I’ve got a stomach bug that the kids have brought home from school so I feel like crap but other than that I’m good.
Rants / Raves:
Rant: it’s been a hell of a day with being sick, my oldest being sick and sent home from school early, my husbands car breaking down and a few other stressful situations I’m just over it!
Rave: baby turned head down so should be good to go from here on out!
Questions:
GTKY: What is your favorite dessert?:
Cheesecake or cookies probably. I’m not a big sweet eater unless I’m really in the mood.
Interesting baby fact/Baby is the size of: butternut squash
Upcoming appointments: had my last ultrasound with MFM today, regular OB next week
How are you feeling: the third trimester aches and pains are starting to kick in
Rants / Raves: I feel like I have so much to do (work and house stuff) before the baby comes and time feels like it’s flying!
Questions: does anyone have an older child and NOT have family nearby? We just moved to a new state and don’t have family super close to us. We don’t really know anyone yet since we just moved here… we have no idea what to do with our daughter while we’re in the hospital!
GTKY: What is your favorite dessert?: I love any dessert 😂
@varimama my family and MIL are all planning to come when the baby is born, my MIL mentioned stayed for the entire month of December 😱 on the one hand, I want help with my daughter but at the same time I really don’t want people here that long if at all! It was somewhat nice in Covid that we didn’t have to navigate this with our daughter because no one could come even if they wanted to.

How are you feeling: Tired, but good overall
Rants / Raves: Raves: Anniversary weekend away was really good. I was needing a break, and I'd forgotten how easy it was to get ready and go places without getting my tiny army ready first. I also finally got the results of my 32-week growth scan from last week, and everything looks good. Rants: DH's parents watched the boys while we were gone. They aren't my favorite option, but DH is attempting to rebuild my trust with them because of some things that happened a couple years ago. They did better overall with the boys, but they absolutely destroyed my house. I cleaned and did a bunch of laundry on Friday before we left, and I had to reclean everything and do several loads of laundry to get back on track on Sunday afternoon. My doctor recommended flu and Covid shots for anyone wanting to see the baby. We've never vaccinated the boys (and won't), but we do require visitors (grandparents) to be fully vaccinated, with the 2-week post-vaccine time, if they want to visit. I told my parents, and my dad threw a fit. I just waited for him to wind down and then told him that we can just find someone else to stay with the boys while I am in labor if he isn't wanting to get vaccinated. He said he will, but I'm sure he'll wait until the last moment. Hopefully this baby doesn't come early, or we will have to find someone else to watch them last minute.
Questions: What is everyone's vaccination protocol for visitors? Also, should we start thinking about moving to a private group because some of us are getting ready to deliver babies pretty soon?
GTKY: What is your favorite dessert?: I love milk chocolate, but my favorites would be chocolate chip cookies, chocolate pie, and M&M blizzards from DQ.
@varimama I also hate people holding my babies. We've had 2 Covid babies (2020 and 2022), and I've already declined people's requests to come see this baby lol. The boys tested positive for Covid the day before I was induced with DS3, and my parents (who were watching them) caught it from them. I wasn't the most popular person in the house when I told them sick people couldn't hold the baby. Our house wasn't set up for quarantining, and we're 99% sure DS3 caught it shortly after we arrived home. Summer babies were so much easier than winter babies sickness-wise for me.
@UnwritteN12 I just realized your c-section is next week. I hope everything goes well, and you have an easy delivery, recovery, and get some relief from the discomfort you're currently having. I am also on a DQ Blizzard kick, but my blizzard of choice is M&M.
@Kiek Have you tried compression socks? I had swelling with DS1, and some with this baby, but I used compression socks while traveling while pregnant with all my pregnancies. I currently hate wearing all clothes, so I've just swelled up with this one lol. I hope you and your sister have a fantastic weekend! Any fun plans?
@ohsmith I hope you start feeling better soon! Stomach bugs are the worst while pregnant. I'm glad baby turned head down for you!
@fitandnerdy This will be the first baby we have that is semi-close (3 hours) for family. Is anyone willing to travel to you to watch your daughter? When I had DS2 and DS3, we were 10 hours from family. For DS2, we paid our babysitter to stay with DS1, and for DS3, my parents came and stayed with the older boys until DH got home from the hospital. He stayed with me the entire time with DS2 because of Covid restrictions, but he went home after I delivered DS3 and came back to pick us up. I felt your pain on having your MIL stay for the entire month. How well would she take being told no?
@fitandnerdy our closest family is 5 hours away. My mom is coming when I’m 39 weeks and staying however long. But she’s also ready to hop in the car when I go into labor. Her job is very flexible, thankfully. I have a couple people I can call to hang out with my girls until my mom can get here. Worst case, I have to bags for my girls so they can hang out at the hospital with us if it comes to that. The birthing suites are pretty big. Unfortunately, due to my youngest’s many medical needs, my kids are very used to hanging out in hospitals for hours.
@makingbacon I am down for moving to a private group!
No vaccine protocol for visitors for us. Just don’t be sick if you’re going to hold the baby 😂. But again, I’m not near family. My mom will be here and then my MIL and SFIL will be down at Christmas. That’s all the peopling that we will probably get those first couple months.
@Kiek We've always required flu shots to be around the boys in the winter months. I wasn't sure about the Covid vaccine because none of us has gotten it since I was pregnant with DS3, but the doctor recommended it for everyone. I have an appointment to get mine late next week.
@makingbacon I’m so sorry you had to deal with Covid and a newborn… I’m having our house all get flu and Covid shots but I’m unsure of how to ask other people to do it… I’m down for a private group!
@fitandnerdy a whole month 😳I don’t think I could take anyone that long! I’d be more inclined to have visitors if I thought they’d be helpful with DS1 & 2 or laundry/dishes but they are all very much “I’ll help hold the baby while you do stuff” and that isn’t the help I need/want!
@UnwritteN12 I can’t believe your baby is almost here!!! Wishing you all the luck next week!!!
Me: 33 | DH: 34 Married: October, 19, 2015 EDD 2/22/17 DS1 born on 3/2/17 EDD 3/8/20 DS2 born on 3/10/20 EDD 11/24/23 (Formerly Marriedhamstermom Feb ‘17)
@makingbacon Thinking about vaccine protocols (and having people around such a tiny baby during peak sick season) is so stressful. My immediate household will all be flu vaccinated and I got the covid vaccine last week. Ideally, other people would get at least the flu vaccine. But even that is iffy because my dad had a rare side effect from the flu vaccine being placed incorrectly last year and now has a torn rotator cuff and needs surgery, so I think at least my parents might not get it because of that...
@Kiek my parents don't live toooo far away, so they could be here in a few hours. I'm worried about that time period before they get here and when we already leave for the hospital because we genuinely don't know anyone here since we just moved. And my hospital has a weird policy that no one under the age of 16 can be in the maternity wing (even after the baby is born, so my daughter won't get to meet the baby until we go home?) maybe they'd be flexible if we need to bring her for a short time but who knows. I'll just hope for the best that my parents can get here in time. They've mentioned just coming for thanksgiving and staying, but that could mean they'd be here 2 weeks before the baby is even born and that's too long for me lol
@varimama i actually think my MIL will be the most helpful visitor we will get because she will do some cooking/cleaning/helping with DD, but even with that, one month is a long time to plan on staying when we havent invited her to stay that long my side of the family will very much be the "let me hold the newborn" type, which definitely isnt the help ill need!
So my husband and kids have super bad reactions to the flu shot and can’t get it anymore, and I’ve just never had it. I’ve gotten the flu maybe 3 times in my life. So it just doesn’t even occur to me to ask anyone lol. But I totally get being cautious. My youngest got RSV at 3 weeks old and had to go to the PICU after barely being home from the NICU. My oldest had picked it up and we had no clue because her immune system is a force of nature and she just had some minor sniffles 💀. I’m just like, if you’re gonna be here, wash yo hands and if you have a sniffle, stay home 😅
