Our shower broke this morning. Like, the showerhead snapped off the wall? So now we have 4 adults with no working shower. I’m sensing a Home Depot run this evening….
I feel like the last 4-5 days have been non stop and there isn’t an end in sight yet. My cat, who usually comes in at night, got in a fight with something one night last week. It woke me up in the middle of the night he was so loud but we couldn’t find him in the dark. We checked him over in the morning when he came in and he looked completely fine, no blood or cuts anywhere. He had a vet check yesterday and has an infection on a back paw and I feel like a terrible pet owner for not noticing but there was no blood he just wouldn’t let her touch that foot during the exam. Today we’re visiting a Bee keeper with our farm scout group, tomorrows a hike with the homeschool Co-Op and soccer, and Thursday Arizona Grandma gets in for a 2 week visit, followed by Florida Grandma for another week. I am already tired.
I'm annoyed because I realized that if this baby is born at the same gestational age as my daughter (29 weeks) then I will have a baby in less than 90 days and I am not ready to have another baby in that time or have all the trauma of a NICU baby. So I tried to tell a couple people close to me that I am panicking a little bit about this, and everyone's response seems to be "well, you won't have an early baby this time, so you don't need to worry" or "I have the feeling you will go full term this time." Well, I had the feeling I would go full term last time, since I was healthy and had no risk factors for any number of issues, including preeclampsia, but here we are. It just feels like toxic positivity to me so I'm annoyed. I guess I'll just keep taking my low dose aspirin and hope for the best.
@dinomeetsjedi I’m sorry you aren’t feeling supported in a way that’s helpful. NICU trauma is very niche and if someone hasn’t been through it they can’t understand it. I only had a small taste of the NICU (3 days) when my second was born unexpectedly with a bleeding disorder, and I can only imagine being there because of extreme prematurity. I really hope you can make it to term this time. All you can do it take things one at a time. 💜
Do either of you know of any groups similar to this related to homeschooling or have any interest in talking homeschool logistics pregnant? I am having some homeschool stress and struggling to find the right place to talk it out.
@dinomeetsjedi your friends sound like they have no idea how to respond to your trauma, im sure they're good people, but I can see why their toxic positivity is hurtful. You can always share whatever feelings you’re having here. I can imagine that pregnancy after trauma is a tough, niche experience to have and finding support can be difficult. I may not have the same experience as you, but always willing to listen. Anything and everything you’re thinking or feeling is valid and worthy of being heard ❤️
@dinomeetsjedi your concerns are valid and I’m sorry you aren’t being adequately supported by those you’ve tried taking to about them. I don’t have nicu experience but I’m here to listen if you need.
@night_nurse I’m not aware of any like this off Facebook but there are several on FB. I also have a small local Co-Op we attend weekly which helps for advice from more experienced homeschoolers for me and socialization for my guys. Happy to chat though! I’m trying to get a really solid routine down now before the chaos of new baby. We year round school though so if we need to throw out the schedule in March we can.

I would welcome the FB group names! We don't have a co-op or any homeschool friends. I wish we did. All my IRL people are constantly on me to send them to public school to the point where I can't talk about problem solving at all.
In sum, I need some ideas to encourage personal responsibility and self direction for my big kids (9 & 12).
Today we went to a kids birthday party at Dave and Busters. I’m avoiding caffeine right now so my husband asked a server “if they had any drinks that are caffeine free, like root beer?” and she said “we have root beer but it isn’t free you’ll have to pay for it” 😂🙈
@farm_mama I really like Secular, Eclectic and Academic (SEA) Homeschoolers for general advice and curriculum reviews. Depending on what curriculum you use they may have a group too. My kids aren’t quite ready for self directed learning but we can do our math lesson together and then my 7 yo can manage his time getting his worksheets done to reinforce whatever we covered. He can do most science experiments this year and art projects independently but I have to do the legwork to get it all set up for him to execute. Otherwise we try to keep everything to about an hour max a day of table work.
Thank you everyone for your responses earlier. I sometimes don't manage to get back on here, especially on the weekends, but I appreciate it. I think that's all my complaining for now , but I'm sure it'll come up again the closer I get to 29 weeks (unless I have blood pressure problems before then).
