Board Organization Thread

Hey Everyone!
Let this be the place to chat about how we would like our board organized. In the past most BMBs have gone ahead and defaulted to strict organization. However, not everyone agrees with that system. If you’d like, browse some of the other BMBs to see how they run and if there is anything you like/dislike.
What are your thoughts? I can post the organization thread from my last BMB and we can pick and choose what we’d like to see here?
Do we allow one-off threads?
Do we want one big question thread?
Dedicated threads to specific topics that we direct members to?
How do we want to do check ins? By due date, whole group, day of the week?
I’d love to see this group flourish and have a sense of community without feeling unwelcoming. Share your thoughts below!

Re: Board Organization Thread

  • I think a weekly check in would be fun. Maybe every Sunday?

  • My April 2017 board did organization but we were more lax about it. We also moved to Facebook maybe around January or February. That group is much closer (even now, 6 years later) than my May 2020 group, which was stricter about organization and moved to Facebook too close to our due dates IMO.

I think these boards have gotten smaller, so I’d be in favor of just a weekly check-in for the whole board.

  • I agree that the boards are getting smaller. And I think a weekly check in for everyone will work nicely! My last BMB moved to a private bump group when we were all around 24ish weeks. And then a FB group maybe a month or two later? So by 3rd tri. We also had an early delivery so that was part of the reason but I liked it !

I think it’s definitely important to have structure. But since these boards don’t attract as much traffic anymore I’m not sure it’s worth it to police it as much as we did in the past. Obv if there are repeat one-off offenders we can kindly direct them to the thread they can go to. But unless it becomes crazy here it should be a place where everyone feels comfortable.

I’m team Anyone can make threads/posts about a specific topic and we can have general threads and go from there. Idk if y’all are interested in having a spreadsheet. I’m not 100% sure how to make one so if someone has experience with that they can take the reins on that!
  • I agree about the groups getting smaller and smaller, so I think one weekly checkin for everyone will work!

I vote no one off threads. (also for the record, I hate threads like "word association" or "memes" but to each their own)

    Threads I'm a fan of:
    - Product spotlights (good for the FTMs to learn and STM+ to share advice)
    - HDBD
    - PGAL (plan on starting this thread after posting this reply)
    - Great Big Question Thread (nice to have one place for this, imo)
    - FFCF
    - Monthly Appointments
    - Weekly randoms
    - I think GTKY's can go in the weekly checkins or be their own thing, whichever
    - Symptoms can have its own weekly thread imo
  • Hi! I prefer more structure just because I feel like that is what makes these boards so much better/easier than others which get insane with all sorts of one off threads. I do think one offs for something important are fine, but I really like threads for questions, check ins, symptoms, etc. My N20 was chill but still had structure and I feel like that worked out great!
  • @bserena agreed! I think we’ll have a lot of standard threads that encourage organization. But I envision us being pretty chill about it :) I’m usually okay with most stuff unless someone keeps asking the same question or keeps making their own threads then we gotta shut that down 🤣
  • I figure we can start the product spotlights & HDBD in the next few weeks? I did the spotlights in my last BMB, it was fun! But if someone else would like to do them by all means!!
I can also start an ultrasound thread and Big Question thread and get those pinned :)
What do we think about a spreadsheet? I don’t know if they’re all that popular anymore.
  • I like spreadsheets! I found it really helpful to remember who everyone was/their little one(s). It was especially helpful towards the end when we moved over to a fb group and babies started being born.

  • So I went ahead and started some of the big stuff, hopefully that's okay! But feel free to tell me to change something haha I just wanted to get the board up and running and hopefully a bit more active.

@bserena of course!! Any of us can start threads :) thank you for taking the time to do it! I’m going to get a Ask us anything thread started soon. Maybe that will help with some engagement. People are reading the threads but not doing the check ins etc.
  • @virtaur I think that's a great idea! Hopefully that'll help some. Looking at past BMBs it does look like they've slowed down a lot since last time I was here, lol. But hopefully even if it's a small group we have more engagement. I still talk to my N20 often and love that.
