Re: Pregnancy Check In - Week of July 10

  • Since there aren't very many of us yet, maybe we can start with a group check in? If the board gets bigger/more active we can always switch it up 😊

Baby is the size of a(n): appleseed

Team blue/pink/green: going to find out at the AS

Upcoming Appointments: not yet, see rant below

How are you feeling?: pretty good, perpetually tired, but otherwise pretty good

Rants/Raves: I asked my doctor's office if there is anyway I can skip the pregnancy confirmation appt, because I don't need to drive all the way out there to get bloodwork taken, and tell the doctor I don't have any questions. They said if I faxed(!) over a lab report that confirmed the pregnancy I could skip right to a new pregnancy appointment. So I went to a local lab, and got the work done, and MH found a way to fax it. I called twice last week, and each time they told me I had faxed it to the RV office, but when I called I called the SS office (I get seen at RV, but when you call you get directed to whoever is available) and they couldn't get through to the RV office, so they would call me back. This morning I get a message on the patient portal from the NP saying "we received this bloodwork for you, did you want to make an appointment?"!?!?!

    Questions: NATM

GTKY: What are your hobbies? I love to crochet, and do counted cross-stitch.

    FTM/STM/TTM+: TTM

Baby is the size of a(n): appleseed

Team blue/pink/green: We'll find out this time around 😊

Upcoming Appointments: 7/24 to confirm pregnancy

How are you feeling?: Pretty good - random bouts of feeling yucky/nauseous, but nothing too severe.

Rants/Raves: I'm loving all the N/A hop water/hoppy sparkling water options that weren't available in my other pregnancies. If only they weren't so expensive 😭😭😭 MH is a homebrewer, so he's trying to make me some, but the first try was so bitter it was undrinkable. Back to the drawing board!

Questions: Anyone else have experience trying to fit 3 carseats in a row? We'll be putting all 3 kids in our Subaru Forester. I have 2 Diono Radians, and was thinking of getting the Graco Slimfit3LX. Anyone have that seat?

GTKY: What are your hobbies? I like to quilt, sew clothes, cook and read (well, listen).

@hedgepig I’m looking into getting the Graco Slimfit3LX for the back of my suburban! But I don’t know anyone who has them. Just from my research that’s what will work best!
  • @hedgepig we did 3 across in out Toyota Highlander and it was fine. I'm trying to remember exactly what car seats we had, but it's a bit of a blur. I know that the baby was in an infant graco snap and go, I think the middle was in the graco extend to fit, and the oldest was in a graco booster. I wouldn't worry about it too much, they really need less room than you would expect.

    FTM/STM/TTM+: FTM

Baby is the size of a(n): Appleseed.

Team blue/pink/green: Gonna leave it a surprise.

Upcoming Appointments: 1 August for confirmation, new pregnancy exam, ultrasound, the whole shebang .

How are you feeling?: Frustrated with trying to work with whatever my body wants at the moment and still trying to plan stuff and get things done. And yet it doesn't feel completely real yet.

Rants/Raves: I miss sleep already. Too tired to rant about anything else

Questions: I had a LOT of trouble getting my first appointment arranged, to the point that it took 4 days and 2 random crying break downs to get it finalized. Have other people experienced this? Or did I just get (un)lucky?

GTKY: What are your hobbies? Kind of all over the place. Knit, crochet, draw, paint, dabble in bead art and chainmail for dolls, gardening (veggies, herbs, flowers), language studies (English, Spanish, Japanese, Cherokee), Dungeons and Dragons
  • @mynameisoverused We were team Green the first time around and I loved the surprise!

What's happened with setting up your appt? Mine was an easy peasy phone call. That sounds both frustrating and also unfair to subject a newly pregnant person to.

We used to play a lot of D&D and board games too (pre-kids 😅), and still play Magic pretty often.

  • @hedgepig The whole appointment situation was an entire mess, and I fully agree very unfair to the newly pregnant, especially a first pregnancy.

Sorry for the length, trying to it sum up as best I can:

    - Hospital website was not clearly labeled for how to make an appointment for pregnancy, wasted 2 hours just to find a phone number to call.

    - No hours listed, so called on a Sunday (day 1), no answer. Not entirely unexpected.

    - Called next day (Monday, day 2). Ask to make appointment, receptionist asks what hospital I'm delivering at, since my main hospital apparently doesn't do deliveries. I was 4 weeks into my first pregnancy, no friggin clue. Told I HAVE to pick delivery hospital before scheduling first appointment, and I'm not allowed to pick the closest one. So I get an approved hospital list and told to call back by 6:30p to make an appointment.

    - Spend hours researching the approved hospitals, pick one, and call back at 5:17p. Receptionist says pregnancy appoints cannot be made after 5p, call back next day.

    - Call back next day (Tuesday, day 3). It's 4th of July. No answer.

    - Wednesday, Day 4. Call, tell them my selected hospital from their list, and told their doctors no longer deliver there.  It was the ONLY hospital that stated it has specialists for mothers who were former smokers and over 35, so I wanted that one. They transferred me, wrong number. Call again, they transferred to the correct number.

I don't remember all the details from this point clearly as I was a frustrated crying wreck, but it involved the hospital I wanted trying to schedule me with one of the hospitals I specifically did NOT pick, trying to schedule me with nurses instead of the specialist I asked for, this building moving to that location months ago and website not updated, the hospital I'll be delivering at not being the same as the one for my first appointment and the doctor doing my exam won't necessarily be the one doing the delivery despite those being the prerequisites that THE VERY FIRST phone call said we're mandatory so.. yeah.

Got the appointment made, and looking at back ups just in case. But not a great experience so far.
  • @mynameisoverused Ugh, what a nightmare! We only have 1 hospital and essentially only 1 option for prenatal care, which I usually see as a downside, but reading your story I am thinking maybe it's an upside 😬 You'd think they'd know how to handle this better - I mean, they must get calls like yours literally everyday. I hope your appt goes well and things smooth out from here on out!

  • @hedgepig I really would not mind having fewer options. Curse of living so close to a big city is too many options, and all of them accept different insurances for different services and entire departments can be in separate covarage networks from the rest of the hospital! Apparently the big 2 medical groups in the area became 3 and went through a TON of changes, and all the satellite hospitals haven't caught up with all the changes yet so what can you do?

Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly from here, or I'm gonna seriously consider moving back to the countryside.

Baby is the size of a(n): pea?!

Team blue/pink/green: Green, we are hoping to hold out until birth to find out the sex of this babe

Upcoming Appointments: pregnancy confirmation appointment on the 24th

How are you feeling?: overall pretty blah, but compared to my last pregnancy I will take it. Grateful I havent thrown up yet and hoping to avoid HG this time.

Rants/Raves: Rave for an amazing consultation with a home birth midwife yesterday- will post more in the weekly randoms.

    Questions:

GTKY: What are your hobbies? Oy, pre-kids? I was very crafty, creative. Always making handmade cards and scrapbooks. I really enjoy cooking. Love hosting holidays and cooking the whole meal. Bread has become a huge hobby as well. Been baking with sourdough since my first was little as he always did better with it than yeasted bread. Love baking sourdough anything.
  • @mrosek91 why can doctor’s office be the worst?! Also- why would you need to prove you’re pregnant before making a first appt??

@hedgepig due date twins and first appt twins lol. Love that hubby is trying to brew something nonalcoholic for you ❤️ we are also going to be squeezing 3 seats together. I plan to keep the baby in an infant seat installed with the seatbelt to keep it slimmer. We have the Clek Liing which i was able to buy new in box off mercari for way below MSRP. And 2 diono radians.
  • @mynameisoverused i think sometimes healthcare related tasks are purposefully difficult. Trying to make you just give up. What a nightmare

Team blue/pink/green: I don’t have a feeling either way yet but we’ll definitely find out

Upcoming Appointments: 7/18 ultrasound and probably labs again

How are you feeling?: exhausted, I’m normally very energized bunnyish but first tri I become a koala every time.

GTKY: What are your hobbies? like @night_nurse I was crafty pre kids and was just carving out time to craft again now that they’re more independent so we’ll see if that holds up. I also love to read. I want to be a gardener but I am just not great at it. We redid our vegetable garden area this year with new raised beds and fresh soil/compost mix so hopefully that’ll help. We didn’t inherit a great setup from the previous owners and I’m not savvy enough to amend that soil. I love to be in the kitchen and try to cook/bake/can as much as we can so we’re not so reliant on the grocery store since we don’t actually have one in our town.

@mynameisoverused what a nightmare! I’m glad you finally got the appointment scheduled and hope it goes smoother from here
  • @night_nurse I know! It's so ridiculous, but the way my doctor's office does a new pregnancy appointment is that your scheulded with the ultrasound tech for a growth check, (and to see if there are multiples) and then the nurse to go through the dos and don't of pregnancy and the doctor to go over the care plan, and see if there are any questions. So I guess they don't want to schedule all that time and then have you start the ultrasound and there's nothing there. It's still going to be party a waste of time, because with baby #4 the nurse came in and said, why am I here, you know all this already, so I'm expecting a similar reaction this time. Maybe I'll get a nap in between the ultrasound and the doc visit, they're in a new office, and I don't know the layout, so we'll have to see.
  • @night_nurse 🤞 you avoid the HG this time too! I like yo bake sourdough as well, although I don't usually manage to keep it up through the summer. We loooove sourdough pancakes 🥞

We have 2 Diono Radians that I got from a friend, but I don't love them 🤷🏻‍♀️, but they work, so we'll stick with them. One will expire next year, so I will likely upgrade my 5 year old then. Good score on the Clek, that's a great deal!

@kmw611 I bet your garden is going to love the soil refresh! We barely have a grocery store in our town either, so I feel you on that one. We do most of our shopping an hour and a half away these days. What do you like to read?

  • @hedgepig i find the radian so hard to install and SO heavy and do so we never move it from car to car. We have only 1 right now but thinking it’ll be the only thing we can fit 2 of plus the infant seat across our CRV. Need to research more.

@mrosek91 i guess that does make sense but hate that the pregnant patient is the one that is extremely inconvenienced and not the system
  • kmw611kmw611 member
Add me to the diono club😂 I didn’t love it though and gladly gave it up for a myfit when my 7yo outgrew the harness at 5, he’s super tall. I’m hoping to get something else for the next little and trading that in at target.

@hedgepig everything sprouted nicely and all my berry bushes produced well so far but the tomato’s and peppers are looking scraggly. It’s still early for them though so I haven’t given up hope. I like to read a little bit of everything. Thrillers, fantasy and romance are probably my top picks. My may19 bump group still has an active fb book club that always brings a variety to my choices.
  • EDD / Weeks + Days: 25 March based off what the internet says- On that note y’all I’m so confused about how far along I technically am, it is based off your last period, right? I am only about 1-2w pregnant but when I go for my beta, it’s 4w?

    FTM/STM/TTM+: FTM

Baby is the size of a(n): Don’t know, but super small

Team blue/pink/green: Team whatever colour! I’m just hoping to have a take home baby after 8 years

Upcoming appointments?: Beta will be taken on the 16th….almost there!!

How are you feeling?: Cramping, a little nauseated every now and then but pretty good.

Rants/Raves: If my beta is good, I have to keep taking Prometrium until I’m at least 10 weeks. I don’t mind but man is it messy.

    Questions: None!

GTKY: What are your hobbies? I used to LOVE pole dancing, I would go to multiple classes per
week, but i had to stop in order to do IVF (can’t do strenuous exercise). I’m also big into video games.
  • @kmw611 I'm looking at the KidFit for DS too! My Nov20 group was responsible for getting me into romance too 😊
