1st Trimester

First pregnancy, an anxious!

So, I’m 24 and my husband is 27. We’ve been trying for about 6 years to get pregnant and I finally got a positive test! I got it confirmed today and they think I’m about 3 weeks and 3 days. This will be my first pregnancy and I’m so anxious.
My current symptoms are random spurts of extreme nausea, extremely sensitive breasts, and fatigue. (Like within an hour of waking up I am already ready to get back into bed.)
I’m super anxious because I found out so early and what if I start bleeding around my soon to be ‘missed’ period? Should I be worried about the bleeding if it happens? What if I have heavy bleeding?
I keep feeling these little pinchy cramps all over my stomach and around my lower abdomen and it’s making me anxious because I’ve been told that if I have cramps that I should be concerned.
I guess I’m just worried about it all and don’t know what to expect or what to ask and I’m scared that I’m going to lose this pregnancy after trying and wanting it for so long.
Any advice helps so much!

Experienced mom here: small cramping and "tugging" feelings are and can be normal.  Spotting and, yes, even bleeding can be normal.  I know someone who bled off and on through pregnancy to deliver a perfectly healthy baby.

Causes of bleeding, especially in early pregnancy: sex, TV ultrasound, subchronic hematoma.

Yes, symptoms come and go. If all of a sudden nausea stops, yeah maybe you are through "morning sickness" but it may come back.  Your sore boobs may suddenly go away - yeah you won't be in pain for some time!!!!

Yes. Twinges.of aches, pains, pulls etc are normal, your body is preparing itself.

If you get sudden severe aches and sharp pains and/or heavy bleeding - then that would be a call to your doctor's nurses line.  Do not go running to the ER - unless that phone call instructs you to do so.

If your anxiety is this bad, you may want to contact a counselor for help.

  • Thank you! It’s our very first time being pregnant and I just feel overwhelmed with everything right now. We’ve wanted this for so long and so I’m afraid it’s all gonna just disappear. The anxiety comes and goes. Sometimes I’m just super excited and sometimes I’m worried. Thank you for your reply!
