Re: Weekly check-in 2/21

  • Estimated Due Date / Weeks + Days: 22+3

    FTM/STM/STM+: third

    Team Boy/Girl/Surprise: girl!!

Interesting baby fact / Baby is the size of: according to the app, today is my actual halfway point, if you start for the 4 week mark (when you can actually test) FUN!

Upcoming appointments: next midwife appointment in March

How are you feeling: I’ve been sick all weekend so that’s the worst, but otherwise I’m doing really well! Hooray!

Rants / Raves: DH can finally feel the baby moving! I love it. I’ve yet to time it right to have the girls feel it, but we have time.

    Questions: none right now.

GTKY: what did you want to be when you grew up and how does it differ from the career path you're on instead? Honestly, I never really knew. It was always something different for me. I still don’t really have a solid career lol. Trying to figure what I want to be when I grow up. I love all the little part-time hobbies I have though. That suits me.

  • Estimated Due Date / Weeks + Days:
    23w6d / June 14

    FTM/STM/STM+:
    Third time mom

    Team Boy/Girl/Surprise:
    Girl

Interesting baby fact / Baby is the size of:
Baby was the length of a carton of eggs yesterday and it was fun to pull one out of the fridge to show to DS1. Whenever the bump gives a tangible thing we have in our house (like weight = 3 sticks of butter 😂) we try and show the kids!

    Upcoming appointments:
Literally every Thursday in March (except for our anniversary), somebody in the house has a doctors appointment. First I have a midwife appt, then DS2 check up, then anniversary, then follow up ultrasound, then DS1 check up. Oof.

    How are you feeling:
Physically, pretty good. Theres definitely some irritations here and there (heartburn, sore back/hips, out of breath all the time, etc) but nothing thats totally killing me! Feeling a bit more mentally stressed the last week or two though.

    Rants / Raves:
Sunday afternoon, DH and I and my mom's husband worked so hard to install a new washer and dryer after months without. Literally hours of work, including a ton of time spent cleaning the small flood that happened when the washer tube came off. THEN... Got home yesterday to DH saying the kitchen sink was draining funny in the middle of him preparing dinner. It was backing up into the sink in the bathroom on the other side of the kitchen sink wall 🥴 can't use either sink or our dishwasher now until a plumber comes out. Somebody please wake me up from this appliance nightmare

    Questions:

GTKY: what did you want to be when you grew up and how does it differ from the career path you're on instead?
Hmm. I never settled on just one thing when I was younger. There were times when I wanted to be a teacher, an author, an attorney. My sister convinced me I "wanted" to be a nurse for a little while because she was in nursing school when I was in kindergarten lol. In high school, I had settled on teaching (high school english preferably) because I was too scared of trying to pay for law school on my own. After DS1 was born, I couldn't justify the tuition cost to go back to school and earn as little as teachers do when I had already started my family, so I shifted back to law 👌🏼 I still love writing and think being a teacher would be great if the benefits weren't so non-existent. My legal career just ended up making the most sense.
  • @kalesix3 thanks for starting the thread this week!

Estimated Due Date / Weeks + Days: EDD 6/23; CS scheduled for 6/20; 22w3d

    FTM/STM/STM+: STM

    Team Boy/Girl/Surprise: Girl

Interesting baby fact / Baby is the size of: a coconut? That seems incorrect lol.

Upcoming appointments: OB next Tues then Endo for GD next Wed.

How are you feeling: Physically, good! Mentally, stressed and overscheduled and feeling like I've got a million things to do now that I'm past the halfway point in the pregnancy.

Rants / Raves: My 2yp gets a puzzled face anytime we mention baby sister, then insists he already has a sister and names the dog 🤣

    Questions:

GTKY: what did you want to be when you grew up and how does it differ from the career path you're on instead? I wanted to be a veterinarian or a teacher. I have indeed worked in education my whole career, first in Sp Ed, then outdoor Ed, and now at a university. I changed gears in my early 30s and went back to grad school to transition from K-12 to college admin.

@bridgettetheboxer same! I've spent years doing things that have always felt more like hobbies than a career path, I used to be really self conscious and feel like a failure for it but the older I get the more I realize there's so much burnout happening in traditional career paths, if you can spend years being happier the appearance of having a fixed career isn't the most important thing. Plus your hobbies are so cool and you can't put a price on the freedom and flexibility to follow your heart.

@thescarletmom oh good grief that sounds so stressful and awful. I hope the plumber gets everything running smoothly again asap, I've lived through one house flood and I never want to deal with that again. I hope at least the weather stays beautiful so you can air out some of the moisture in the house so nothing molds. Sending you all the vibes.

@peyts228 of course! I'm glad you didn't mind, I didn't want you to feel stressed about getting to it if you were busy 🥰
I feel like the bump had it sized coconut and then grapefruit or something ridiculous, like what kind of grapefruits are they looking at?!

@mommasay04 I feel like I always hear that fifth babies pregnancy seems to drag by! You can send some of those vibes to me because mine is flying by too fast and I'm sad, I don't want it to fly by and miss a single second 🥲
  • Estimated Due Date / Weeks + Days:
    25w2d June 4th

    FTM/STM/STM+:
    Third time mom

    Team Boy/Girl/Surprise:
    Team green 🍏

Interesting baby fact / Baby is the size of:
Their fist is the size of a gummy bear lol!

    Upcoming appointments:
Nothing scheduled yet, after we move I'll schedule my first prenatal with the new practice and take a tour of the birth center and then get things set up with MFM to continue growth scans monthly.

    How are you feeling:
So exhausted, like can barely stay awake anymore, even with a nap during my son's naptime, I'm sure it's packing and stress related but dang I hoped my second trimester energy would stick around a little longer 🥲

    Rants / Raves:
It was 61° today so we spent hours at the park and had the best time getting some much needed vitamin d before the next winter storm rolls in. My son has been riding his bike to the park and enjoying it so much, he loves his stroller but it's getting too hard for me to lift in and out of the car on my own these days.

    Questions:

GTKY: what did you want to be when you grew up and how does it differ from the career path you're on instead?
I wanted to be a mom, have twenty children and own a farm.
I'm a mom now, have zero desire to have twenty children and I'm too old for that now lol 😂 but I wouldn't say no to a small property I could raise goats on.
Sometimes I regret I didn't leave my oppressive religion and be more wild, idk become a rock singer or something but indoctrinated or not I really do love parenting and the earth and growing gardens and raising animals and children with kindness and intention is something extremely close to my heart. I guess as long as it's my idea it's okay 😂
  • @kalesix3 yes, I couldn’t agree more! I honestly feel so fulfilled (and slightly privileged) getting to bounce around from hobby to hobby and just generally enjoying learning new things. Maybe someday I’ll settle into a career, but I’m honestly pretty happy with how my life is panning out this far. Also, I sooo feel the same about leaving my religion. I missed on on real, adult freedom. And sometimes that makes me sad. So I definitely feel like chasing hobbies is making up for that, in some kind of way.
  • @bridgettetheboxer yesss!! I couldn't have said it better! It heals your inner child so much to spend time on your hobbies and interests so you're definitely doing the right thing, younger you would be cheering for how you've used your time, I just know it!
  • @kalesix3 I wish I could send you these vibes. I seriously feel like I’ve been pregnant forever. Although I did get my positive test at about 2-3 weeks. I was expecting to measure between 8-12 weeks at my first appointment and was only 6 weeks sooo that didn’t help.
  • @hitcj4687 I worked at a group home for disabilities when I was much younger and I have so much respect for people with a calling in that field, it's really hard!

@pttomato that's how I became a stay at home mom too! I really hope you don't catch your DS sickness, being pregnant and sick is a literal nightmare.
  • @monkey_mcfee I hope the chiro is magical! I can't wait to get in somewhere! I'm really lucky my insurance covers what's considered alternative medicine like acupuncture and chiropractic work, most don't :(

Estimated Due Date / Weeks + Days: 23 weeks

    FTM/STM/STM+: 5th

    Team Boy/Girl/Surprise: boy

Interesting baby fact / Baby is the size of: babies pinky toes are the size of a peppercorn

Upcoming appointments: I have a chiropractor and prenatal massage coming up.

How are you feeling: feeling good. I'm very sad this week. I had hoped all my children would meet the man who taught me my work ethic and free thinking spirit. To find out this one and any future children won't meet him, has been really hard to process.

Rants / Raves: it's snowing today... I'm over the cold. I want to go jogging on the dirt track. But it's been muddy. By the time it will be nice enough, I may not want to.

Question: is anyone else getting their summer garden seedlings going? I bought a hydroponic system for over our fish tank. The boys are obsessed!

GTKY: what did you want to be when you grew up and how does it differ from the career path you're on instead?
I wanted to be an architect. I kind of am in a way. I build buildings and homes and renovate so I stayed the course. I'm also a MT. I love being a therapist. To alleviate ones stress or pain is such a rewarding thing. Just wish I could massage myself better! This path really took me to the alternative medicine route. I would love to pursue kinesiology.
  • @mommasay04 I'm pregnant with my 5th as well and home shcool. I love meeting moms who are doing the same! It's chaos for me. I don't have the educational background so I'm sure you're crushing it.
  • @thoseboysmama I am also over the cold! It was spring here last week, and now it's snowing or just plain grey and cold raining. A lot of the flower bulbs we planted last fall are starting to sprout because of the wacky weather, so wifey and I are dumping some mulch on them this afternoon in an effort to slow their growth!! Basically it's like praying for the baby to cook a little longer...technically they could survive at this stage with love and luck, but the better thing would be to keep waiting and growing underground.
  • @monkey_mcfee same the bipolar weather is soo irritating. We were just saying we can put our winter coats away! PSYCH! I hope your bulbs make it.

We recebtly started veggie seedlings and did a whole lesson on it. One of my favorite things to do with the boys is gardening. Babies crawling in the dirt to help and digging up worms and the boys catching any bugs insight is how I'll always think of gardening.

This time next year you'll have a baby to enjoy it with. 🧡
  • @thoseboysmama, homeschool is total chaos in our house, we have changed curriculum 3 times in 2 years bc we can’t find one we love. Using abeka now, master books in the fall.

I have 3 boys and a girl baby bean is boy #4, what about you?  I think boys make school harder. My daughter is the only one I don’t have to fight with on a day basis.
  • @monkey_mcfee I’ve been so grouchy about the weather lately. Sunday was sunny and beautiful and then we got absolutely dumped on the next three days. Like 9” of snow. And I just want spring so bad that it literally puts me in a mood. Lol
  • Omg same, Tuesday was 61° and absolutely beautiful and then yesterday the blizzards and single temps rolled in and today it's -6 with a foot of snow and extra wind-chill 😩 I saw someone said daffodils were blooming yesterday and I'm just like 😵‍💫
  • This is will be my 5th son. I tell my husband all the time the one I miscarried was our girl. He wants 2 more. I will only commit if we have a large farmhouse and an independent food supply. They already eat WAY too much.

We can't find a curriculum we love either. It's been a headache. I'm hoping when we make it out to MO, I can find a more Ala Cart learning curriculum. My area isn't too homeschool friendly.

I'm glad to hear it is not just me swimming in chaos. Haha today we have chicks hatching so our lesson has moved to that. They boys are sooo excited. Now they keep saying it's your turn mama! Hatch that baby!
  • I hate being cold all the time so I am really wanting spring too. Today it is actually almost 80 and should be pretty mild the rest of the week so I’m trying to enjoy it while it lasts. Also ready for it to be light outside longer. Dark and cold is the recipe for depression for me.
  • We had a horrible ice storm yesterday and over night into today.  Roads were totally frozen over! I'm so soooo over it. It was 40 on Monday and my kiddo begged to go to the park, so we went for awhile! And now, it's freezing and icy.
  • @thoseboysmama

boys are fun, but I do think they have a ton more energy and are harder to get to focus. We would do more outside learning but I feel they really need to improve reading and math skills.

We have used easy Peasy, spectrum and abeka. Next year we are going to try master books. I really like the set up of “a reason for” but they don’t have all subjects.

We want to get more land someday but will probably wait until all of the grandparents retire. My parents want to retire in Florida. We would have to leave Mi to get good land I think.
  • @hitcj4687. We had a bad ice storm too. Our public schools have been closed for 2 days. I hate this up and down weather right now. Cold today 29 degrees tomorrow then back to the 40’s Saturday. It’s soooooo annoying
