Venting about work

Please bear with me - I just need to rant about this for a moment...

 I am so tired of people coming to work when they are sick! I work in a law firm that has very generous sick leave policies. There really is no reason for someone NOT to take a sick day when they are ill. And yet, this morning I counted 6 other employees on my floor that were complaining of a cold or flu.

To make matters worse, when I know there are sick people around the office, I make a point of staying in my own office with the door shut. One of the women with a cold just came in and wanted to sit and gossip. I explained that I was trying to avoid getting ill, since pregnant women have suppressed immune systems, and asked if we could talk over the phone or by email instead. She was furious.

 Am I being unreasonable here?

Lord, I feel ya. I only work with 2 other people and both have a wife and 3 kids. One came to work 2 weeks ago sick, then 2 days, the other did! So what happened? I became sick last Friday! Stuffy nose, sore throat... ugh! I hope you dont get it.

I would be the same way! I hate being sick, and don't want to get it from anybody if i can avoid it! so i believe your being REasonable! she can get furious all she wants...

Very impolite to come to work sick. However, I feel like getting sick is highly probable while pregnant. DH, and both kids recently got sick and I unavoidably got sick too. But I SO hate when people come to work sick. Hello, what about the rest of us!!!???

My brother has this problem.  He is on Chemo and Radiation.  He finally had to ask to be moved because the guy next to him kept coming in sick despite the fact that the company had a meeting about it.

I'm not so lucky we have no sick days. So I have to decide if I can make it through the day or stay home with no pay. Oh and I work with the eldery.

You're not unreasonable, they're rude. If it makes you feel any better, they were contagious before they showed symptoms, so you would have been exposed even before either of you knew they were getting sick. I know it doesn't help matters.
