@kalesix3 honestly, if I didn't have a desk job where I spend 90% of my work hours sitting, I probably wouldn't have noticed my BH at all. I only ever feel them when I've been sitting down for a while, or occasionally when I'm getting out of bed. But the bed ones aren't as obvious? I think I only really notice them because I've gotten used to noticing the sitting ones. With DS1+2, I never noticed BH that felt like this at all. I had what I would qualify more as cramping with them, because they hurt a bit and I know BH aren't supposed to hurt.
@thescarletmom I'm going to start scrutinizing myself extra when I get up from sitting down for a little while and getting out of bed to see if I can pinpoint any! Third time around and I'm sure I'm going to learn a bunch of new things too 😂 I can feel prodromal labor contractions and they also don't hurt so I originally thought of maybe they're BH but they are rhythmic and get closer together where BH aren't supposed to which is confusing lol. My uterus just has a mind of its own really 😆
@kalesix3 Oh man my prodromal labor contractions hurt pretty bad! Not anything like the real deal, but definitely bad enough to be tiring. I've always felt like my body defies some of those rules about what contractions and things are supposed to feel like, too.
My BH have been crazy the last few days. Every time I walk up or down the stairs I have them. Lol. I need to make it to the gym more often probably. im also SO done with having headaches every day. I’m over it. My eyeballs hurt so bad. And nothing really seems to help. I should probably try to get more electrolytes in, but I’m struggling with water as it is.
@bridgettetheboxer I have been having nonstop headaches as well. I've definitely noticed they're trickier to get rid of on days when I didn't get enough water the day before, but I've been having a hard time getting enough too! I have an aversion to it when I'm pregnant.
@thescarletmom I do too! I’m usually a huge water drinker but it’s been so hard with the contestant post nasal drip and heightened gag reflex. Pregnancy is so wild.
It took me awhile (with contraction monitoring) to be able to identify contractions, I still find them hard to notice unless I can feel them on the outside.
The heartburn is my least favorite currentsymptoms. Nighttime insomnia has been unfortunate as well lol. My appetite has been increasingly ravenous. I really do feel good overall. I can't complain too much.
@thescarletmom I've always heard that too! I think I just have too high of a pain tolerance sometimes. @hitcj4687 oh no heartburn sounds terrible, I've never experienced it but I hear horror stories. @bridgettetheboxer I was just thinking about getting some electrolytes. I was really good about drinking a warm glass of lemon and Himalayan salt water in the mornings when I was pregnant last time but this time I've been slacking 🤦🏻♀️
I've also really never noticed BH contractions. This discussion is totally making me pay more attention now.
And I'm on cold #1567 in the past few months. My pregnancy symptoms seem to have taken a backseat to all the general cold symptoms I just can't seem to shake. Any suggestions on how to boost your immune system during pregnancy? I'm taking additional vitamin C and zinc, plus a echinacea tincture a few times a day per my midwife's advice.
@hitcj4687 the heartburn is getting real real. I'm obsessed with papaya enzymes- they really work. If I take them before bed I notice a huge difference.
Shower steamers are the best when trying to decongest. I've always made my own and just saw they make them in the stores. Eucalyptus based ones are what I'd opt for with a cold. Also Gordo Lobo tea. With ginger and turmeric root and some good honey. Check with Doctor. I take it when pregnant ans have never seen a warning listed. It always helps clear a viscous cold. Relieves drainage almost immediately. Find it at your local Mexican stores. It's very cheap as well. Sick while pregnant blows. Get well soon! @sunny_native14
@sunny_native14 I use liquid IV to keep my electrolytes up and they have an immune boost one that I love! I don’t know that it would help recover from the cold you currently have, but if could probably help you avoid getting more! So sorry!! Being sick and pregnant is truly the worst.
Sleeping is already the worst and my stomach isn’t huge yet. I was a back sleeper so I toss and turn and have had constant back pain from trying to sleep on my side! The huge pregnancy pillows didn’t really work for me - LMK if anyone has favorites or recommendations!
@hbro1139 the belly bandit brand one is smaller and may help. I believe there is another probably more affordable smaller one too, just can't recall the brand Also a new mattress always helps. We got one with the electric adjustable bed when I was pregnant with our first. It was a game changer. Breastfeeding was great in it too. The 0 gravity setting, I can't even its so amazing! A bit pricey but so worth it! My U shaped pregnancy pillow I use upside down as kt feels better for me. So the curve is by my feet. Good luck I'm a belly sleeper so I feel the struggle.
The nausea has returned heavily and I am not a fan at alllll. It's mostly either in the mornings (which I think is acid reflux related, or at least I noticed the bad taste in my mouth the last two mornings) or when the baby is rolling around a lot. @kalesix3 I remember you saying your nausea gets worse again when baby's movements get stronger, and at the time I was like that's so funny, I've never experienced that. Well either I just didn't notice the connection or this pregnancy just wants to be different in every way because this baby loooves to roll instead of kick and it makes me so nauseated.
@cpjune2023 if you're on your feet alot I'd invest in one of the wearable belly supports. It will help relieve the pelvic pressure and back pain a bit. Or do kinesiology tape, which I love. Research where to put it and it really does do wonders. You can leave it on for a day or so too if you plan accordingly. Hope it gets better!
@thescarletmom it's funny you should mention nausea returning because omg it's so bad lately for me too, it seems to come and go a few weeks at a time. And yes baby's movement exacerbates it for me too, feels like I'm seasick
@kalesix3 yes definitely waves of it. I think I'm a week or so in to throw up most morning again? The rolling especially make me feel like I just crested and started to descend a massive rollercoaster! It even makes me dizzy that how nauseated I get. I need to find my acid reflux medication and see if that helps, it's been one of my bigger triggers for nausea this pregnancy.
Oh the reflux medication is a good call, I hope that works wonders! 🙏🏻 I haven't hit the dizzy stage with movement yet but I'm sure I probably will! Yesterday I bent down to get my son something and I stood up to dancing black spots in my vision, I was kind of surprised because they usually show up much earlier than this the past two times so I thought I had dodged a bullet with them but nope, hello darkness my old friend apparently. They're not serious, just more annoying than anything.
@kalesix3 hate that! I've had a lot of dizziness issues and black spots this past week that I can only think must be from not eating enough? Even though I'm eating meals consistently. I don't know if I need to up the carbs for steady blood sugar or what, but the super low blood sugar/dizziness episodes are irritating.
@hitcj4687 the rolling!!! The boys did not roll this much 😂 I would rather she kick me in the ribs like they did than make me feel like I spent the day at an amusement park. I was telling DH over the weekend that she prefers rolling over kicking probably 9.5 times out of 10, and it makes me feel sick. He looked like he was going to be sick himself just thinking any it when I described the sensation lol
@thescarletmom I haven't even been able to get my husband to feel him because he's always rolling and sommersaulting and it's hard to feel on the outside. Plus he sits seriously so freaking low. Its bizarre. He is always hanging out as close to my pelvis as possible!
@thescarletmom@hitcj4687 What is it with the rolling!? I have literally told my midwife at every appointment that this pregnancy has felt so different with consistent rolling, but much less kicking. It totally freaked me out earlier on when I kept waiting to feel the little 'popping' kicks as the first movements, but all I was feeling was like the butterflies feeling you get going over a big hill...took me so long to identify it as actually movements.
I'm oddly relieved that I'm not the only one with a roly poly baby! Two out of three babies have been rollers over kickers! My son rolled less and still to this day loves to mule kick which I don't miss in utero at all 🤣
@hitcj4687 literally the moment I tell him she's kicking he'll put his hand on my stomach and she goes right back to rolling. She'll roll right under his hand, and he can't feel it at all! She also sits sooo low, the other day DH made fun of me and was like "if you want my hand in your pants all you gotta do is ask" because all her movements are so low I'd have to move the waistband of whatever pajamas I'm wearing that evening for him to feel 😂 She's finally moved up a bit more recently thankfully.
@sunny_native14 I definitely think that played a big factor in me feeling like I went such a long time in between feeling kicks earlier on. I couldn't distinguish her rolling from my constant nausea haha.
@kalesix3 my other two wouldn't really roll until they started running out of room! They prefered their butts wiggled up into my ribcage and kicking away, but waited until they were big enough you can watch them roll across your stomach. I remember having DH watch DS2 do that once and he was so freaked out lol
@thescarletmom my babies always sit super low, too! I always have to move my waistband to feel any of the movements on the outside. I also have to consistently remind providers that they need to look lower to find the heartbeat in those early weeks😂 I have a crazy long torso, so I always chalked it up to that.
@bridgettetheboxer I have the shortest torso ever (my hip bone and lowest rib on the upper side touch if I'm laying down on my side, literally can't fit a single finger between the hip and rib) so that's not my issue 😂 but may also be why they hang out so low too anyways, they got no where else to go!
You all with low babies make me slightly envious lol, because all my placentas are fundal baby is always right at the top and I'm already having a lot of trouble catching my breath and I'm only 23 weeks lol. Good times 😅 @thescarletmom did he ever get to see a summersault?! Mine has gotten to see and feel a few and everytime he's like WHOA WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON lol, every single time 😅
@kalesix3 I am like 5'1.5" so my babies don't really have anywhere else to go 😂 they're still in my lungs anyways lol. I think right around when I hit 20 weeks, I started getting out of breath real easy and I was like oh boy this is gonna be a loooong 2nd and 3rd trimester haha. But yes! He's seen them and he hates it haha. He's very easily squeamish and is always like never show me that again
@thescarletmom I'm dying at the never show me that again part 😂 I thought my SO would be grossed out but he's fascinated instead, go figure! I actually used to be extremely squeamish seeing pictures of other people's baby's kicking and everything but once I started growing babies of my own it became really magical and I don't hate it anymore.
The torso length is definitely a huge win in that regard. I don’t usually feel too out of breath til pretty late in the game. I’m so sorry y’all deal with it for so long!!
on a different note. Prenatal depression is kicking my a**. I self medicated with exercise last time around but not being close to a gym has made that a little more tricky this time and I’m feeling it for sure. Anyone have any good tips for maybe some at home stuff I could try?
@bridgettetheboxer how are you doing on Vitamin D? A vitamin d lamp or supplement could go a long way for you if you live in an area where getting out and getting sunshine is harder in the winter. I also find that yoga is a good way for me to move at home without having to go too out of my way to make it happen, if you're suffering from the lack of movement 🩶 prenatal depression PLUS seasonal depression can be killer. Sending you love
@bridgettetheboxer do you have access to a parinatal wellness center? Normally I'd say take ashwaganda but it's not studied for safety during pregnancy unfortunately, but support from a wellness center might help if you don't have access to a gym anymore. I'm so sorry you're experiencing that. We're always here for you if just getting something off your chest will help.
@kalesix3 I've always been fascinated by pregnancy! Between always wanting a family/children, being one of many siblings, and my older sister having her first when I was 12/13, I was always super interested in it. I remember I saw video on the internet a few years ago where a baby was born en caul, and kept kicking around their intact sac after birth! It was the most insane and incredible thing and my husband was disgusted haha.
I had to teach a cpr and first aid class today for work and after I gave the two breaths for cpr, I literally started seeing those little spots all over. So I was like, okay well thats the only time I'll demonstrate the actual giving breaths part... @thescarletmom I'm only 5'2" so I feel you!!!
@bridgettetheboxer what about buying some weights for at home use?? Or a treadmill if you have the room/it's in your budget? I have a small home gym that I use for when I can't make it to the actual gym and it really helps just get some good movement in. I'm not sure if you're in the cold Midwest like me, but hopefully spring will be around the corner soon and extra outside time will definitely help. Also, just making sure you talk to your doctor/midwife team and just asking for any extra advice ❤
@thescarletmom my goal is to birth an en caul baby someday 🥲 it's up to fate but if I supplement with vitamin C every pregnancy one of these times it will happen right?! I'd really like to go into birth work, I've always had such a fascination with midwives, ever since I was little! I think being a SA survivor I thought sharing your body with another being would be so hard and dysmorphic or something maybe? But it didn't end up being like that for me at all, thank goodness.
@hitcj4687 oh nooo, aren't they awful? I don't think mine are from blood sugar, it's a breath and movement thing, I hate them! It would be so tough to have it happen teaching a class 😵
Also I'm pretty sure I've identified Braxton Hicks for me, only because I was at the park for a few hours this morning with my son and I had a lot of time without much distraction. I was sitting at the bench and all of a sudden I noticed my uterus was rock hard and I dead ass thought "oh I moved and flexed my abs" and then I was like... Wait, no my ab muscles aren't in the center anymore, that's actually just my uterus, it was so weird. I didn't feel pressure or anything internally at all, just my uterus balling up like crazy every few seconds as though I was flexing. 🤦🏻♀️ Anyways that's all I have but the consistency when I wasn't moving around makes me think it has to be BH, but they've been happening for hours now and don't feel like anything unless I have hands on my belly feeling it.
@kalesix3 every once in a while I get a wild hair and think I should give up my law career for birth work... it's literally only my medical trauma stopping me 99% of the time. I love my career, but birth work makes me passionate in a very different way. This is a ***huuuuuuge TW*** and very much information about me... my first miscarriage was from SA when I was very young. I think it's likely my body was just too immature to carry the baby to term and that's why it was my latest loss by a month+. However, I feel like my personal experiences with the aftermath of SA are very different than a lot of the stories and experiences I've heard from others. Like, I never felt my baby had a connection to my assault in any way and grieved the loss heavily. I also became a very "hyper" sexual person afterwards instead of the more "normal"/expected lack of sex drive. I also thankfully never had that feeling or fear you experienced, but I can totally see where that would stem from, especially in a culture where women's bodies are much more heavily policed the moment they become pregnant (THAT is something that is very triggering for me as an SA survivor). *End TW*
Up until a week ago, I couldn't feel my BH at all unless my hands were on my belly either!
