Spotting/Bleeding/Threatened MC Thread **TW**

This thread is for support and questions around spotting/bleeding. 🖤

Conversations surrounding these issues can be discussed here freely. The TW in the title applies for the whole thread. Please beware of reading ahead if you think you might be triggered by conversations about spotting/bleeding.

Finally, remember that most of us are not medical professionals, and even if we were, it's always best to call/visit your doctor with questions or concerns. Feel free to ask questions and voice concerns, but please do not expect anyone here to be able to offer you anything but support. The most important thing to do is to call your doctor. They can offer answers; we can offer support. 🖤

  • I’m currently 5w3d and I started this morning with some brown discharge and some blood spotting. I’ve also been experiencing mild cramping for a week. I’m a normally anxious person, but this is causing me to spiral.
  • I’m going through the same thing except mine started a few days ago. I was told to go to the doctor. So I’m going to tomorrow. Some of my friends said they spotted as well and everything was fine.
  • If you're spotting early on in the pregnancy I would rest a LOT! Don't do much physical activities.  I also would not go to the doctor because they can't do anything to stop it this early on.  N instead they'll do an ultrasound which can trigger more spotting. Hoping for the best 🙏
  • I had some brown discharge throughout the day yesterday which turned to spotting last night and then some bleeding today. I’ve filled two panty liners (not pads) throughout the day. It’s not as heavy as my CP in September but I’m afraid that’s the direction it’s heading.. I would love to hear positive stories.
I had a blood draw today. I’m waiting for results and I go back Friday for the second draw.
  • I woke up this morning and I am bleeding. I’m devastated. I don’t want another miscarriage.

  • Praying for everyone. I’m here at the ER myself.
  • It’s not looking good for me. Bleeding still, cramps, and some clots. 💔💔 I have a scan tmr at 3:15 to confirm.

    *Live, Love, Laugh, Learn*

  • Im praying for you. Unfortunately my precious gift didn’t make it.
  • This is how I am feeling this week…
  • It’s the end for me. HCG dropped. So I’ll say goodbye. Good luck to you all on your pregnancies!

  • @wanderlustsoul oh no. I’m so sorry! 😔
  • I recently started getting bad cramping on-and-off and very light spotting - not enough to fill a pad. I'm anxious, regardless.
  • I apologize if this isn't the thread to be asking this since I'm not spotting or bleeding. I am only 4w2d according to my cycle. I asked for blood work last Friday before I had a missed period (bfp on 8dpo) and my hcg was 24. The doctor asked me to do it again Monday and it was 155 and Wednesday is was 435 so it's rising. I do another tomorrow and depending on those number they want me to come in early for an ultrasound next week. They have made elusions to an ectopic but also said theyre just being cautious. I'm notw freaking out of course. Anyone have any advise?
  • @boymomplusone this would be a good question for the Great Big Question Thread. But from my understanding, HCG should double every 48 hours or so, which it sounds like yours is doing. I know it’s hard, but just try to take it one day (or one test) at a time. You won’t know for sure until that ultrasound, but your doctors seem to be on top of things, which is great. Hang in there, and keep us updated!
  • I am so sorry for your loss. God bless you and your family. Don’t lose hope in trying again 🤗
  • @selthon any update? I am experiencing similar things
  • Found out yesterday that I’m having a threatened miscarriage. In august I experienced a “ spontaneous miscarriage “. So at the first sight of blood( it was fairly light and mixed in with discharge so it’s thick) when I wiped had me freaked out. Doctor told me to bed rest for 48 hours and prescribed me some progesterone pills and asked me to return in one week if spotting/bleeding doesn’t stop but my hope that I will overcome this is fairly low. I’m young (early 20’s) and if this pregnancy ends up successful I’ll be a first time mom, but I’m losing hope every time I go to the bathroom or feel any slight wetness down there I panic and any mild cramp worries me. I know it’s inevitable but it really sucks. Have any of you guys experienced a threatened miscarriage this early on and ended up carrying full term?
  • knottie2b89ae3067fbf084 this is my experience this week. Any updates?
  • I took a dollar store test today and it was much fainter than the tests from last week. With having my IUD still in, I’m worried about an ectopic, but my appointment to figure out what’s going on isn’t until Thursday. Still no bleeding though.

  • First pregnancy here and just had a small cramp when leaving work and came home to a small amount of brown spotting mixed with mucous😓 … staying hopeful that everything is okay, but also a little nervous because miscarriage can be so common now days. What have you been told in terms of spotting? Do I go to work tomorrow (I’m a nurse and am on my feet for 12+ hrs of a day), or take a day to rest??
  • This is my second pregnancy, and I've been having similar brown spotting for 3 days now. I read about it online and it seems to be quite common. From what I read, I believe it's not a cause for concern until you're actively bleeding enough to fill a pad. Sending positive vibes to all you mommas!
  • I’ve had pink and brown spotting for the last three days and with cramping mainly on my right side. I haven’t had my first appointment yet so they told me to go to the ER. Luckily it wasn’t an ectopic and they said could be totally normal even though it’s seems really scary!
  • Totally agree!! Just needed to hear from some women who are experiencing it as well as a “symptom” and also knowing it’s a normal symptom is reassuring!! I talked to a friend today and her sister is currently 15 weeks and spotted like that her whole first trimester. Our bodies are changing so much and the placenta is beginning to form and grow deeper into our tissue so understandable why still spotting may be seen 😊 thanks for the replies!
  • Passed a clot today so sadly it’s the end for me, good luck to all you mommas❤️
  • I want to point out that spotting and bleeding are very common with subchorinoic hematomas; which are not necessarily threatening to the pregnancy and are diagnosed via ultrasound (which cannot cause miscarriage). If you’re pregnant and bleeding you should see your health care provider.
  • Has anyone gotten an ultrasound around 7 weeks and the baby’s hr was only at 90-95 but then ended up increasing properly? My hcg levels increased from two days ago to yesterday, but I’m extremely worried that something is wrong.
  • I'm 6 weeks tomorrow and woke up this morning spotting darkish blood. Not enough to get on a pad, just when wiping :/ I'm so scared, I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks about 10 years ago, but the baby had actually died at 8 weeks and I just didn't know.
This time around it was an intentional pregnancy and it's all I want.
  • I am 6+3 weeks pregnant and from about 4 weeks I keep getting light brown discharge for about 4 days and then it stops for 2 or so, and starts again.. I have no cramps or anything other that is concerning. My boobs have been a little sore ever since I’ve found out I was pregnant at 4 weeks, but no other symptoms yet. Has anyone else experienced anything like this in the early weeks? This is driving me insane and I’m hoping someone else has also experienced this - did it turn out that everything was fine, or what happened to you? Interested to hear any outcome please!

Hi ya'll, I just wanted to share my experience. Last Thursday (11/17) I experienced light spotting. Friday, during intercourse, I started bleeding and even passed a few clots, one was bigger than the others. I freaked out and immediately thought I was having a miscarriage. The bleeding slowed down within 30 minutes and went to spotting only when I wipe. It has been like that for a week now. I emailed the doctor and was told to go get my blood drawn for hcg count and blood type. It was Thanksgiving week so it wasn't 48 hours apart. It went from 4700 (Monday) to 8200 Hcg (Friday). We will see what the doctor says when they review on Monday. I am almost 7 weeks pregnant and from what I have read when you are 6 weeks pregnant it is supposed to double every 96 hours. No woman is the same and hcg is an estimate. I am remaining positive - I passed a few smaller clots yet almost doubled my hcg, continued my breast pain and even experienced slight morning sickness for the first time. I wish you all positive thoughts, bleeding is scary but can be normal. I am hoping for the best in my situation. We will find out on Monday what they think happened.

Edit - I should note that they did order pelvic rest when they asked for blood draws.

  • I had spotting for weeks (just a pantyliner per day but sometimes red with clots) during the first trimester of my previous pregnancy. I was diagnosed with a small subchorionic hematoma and told to take it easier than normal but no bed rest or time off work or anything. It went away by the second trimester (praise God!) which apparently is very normal. I now have a beautiful healthy 20 month old daughter!!

Now with this current pregnancy (I’m about 6 weeks) I have the same thing. My OB told me that about 50% of women have a SCH first trimester and it usually doesn’t cause any problems. She gave the go-ahead to resume workouts and even weight lifting! Just dial it back a notch and listen to my body. We rescan in a couple weeks, praying everything looks good 🙏💕
  • Brown spotting indicates old blood which happened to me also due to implantation bleeding. I now have a healthy 21 month old (:
  • I experienced a subchorionic hemorrhage. I had light spotting with what my doctor described as ‘new blood’ (red) and ‘old blood’ (brown). I was told it wasn’t normal but that it also wasn’t uncommon. Hang in there and mamas!
  • Im just over 6 weeks. I've had mucusy pink and brown spotting for the past 3 days. It's only there when I wipe. The thing is, I had my implantation bleeding over a week ago. I am waiting to hear back from my doctor because he wants to schedule a transvaginal ultrasound to make sure everything is okay. I had a miscarriage in August at 6 weeks along and the spotting then was red and required me to wear a panty liner. So I am taking that difference as a good sign.

Almost 7 weeks pregnant-What is typical protocol if you have abdominal pain on lower right side, bleeding more than spotting but not heavy that it soaks a pad, low back pain? I called my obgyn last tuesday and their office ordered I have hcg and progesterone testing the next day. I haven't heard anything since then. I thought it unusual that they didn't have an ultrasound done to check for possible miscarriage, ectopic, or other possible issue. Maybe I'm not familiar with what is/isn't a priority but I think a week of not hearing back is odd.
  • They will usually just test your HCG levels that early in pregnancy rather than do an ultrasound. If you don't hear something back from your doctor today, then I would call them. I had a miscarriage in August that started a similar way. I went to the ER and all they did was a blood test and sent me home. I am so sorry that you are experiencing this. I hope everything works out.
  • Update. Had my ultrasound today. I am measuring 6 weeks and everything appears normal!!! They weren't worried by the spotting at all. I even got to watch the heartbeat. The baby is the size of uncooked rice so we are calling he/she "Vanilla Rice" until we decide on a name.
  • Hi everyone! I’m about 6w2d and had some brown spotting today. I went in to see my dr and the ultrasound showed a gestational sac & yolk sac measuring right on target about 6 weeks but no baby yet. They said this could be normal as it is on the verge of when a baby would develop, and that it could change in 1-2 weeks but I’m skeptical. I had 2 miscarriages in the past between my 2 healthy girls. Has anyone every experienced something similar to this and did it change for the better? I don’t want to get my hopes up, but would love to hear any similar experiences. I go back on 12/14 and the waiting game is going to be hard!
