Just wanted to throw a quick poll up to see when everyone would want to switch over to a private group (either on the Bump or another platform).

I voted beginning of December, as soon as possible. At this stage I don’t think we’re likely to pick up new members and I feel more comfortable sharing stuff in a space that not literally anyone in the world with internet access can see.

Is there any appetite for moving to a different medium (i.e Facebook private group)? We did so with my other 2 bump groups and I found it SO much easier to keep up with everyone and to be engaged. (The Bump APP is so not user friendly). Just an idea!

@MsBeachNJ oh for sure, I think Facebook is the end goal and private group is the halfway house. At least that’s how we did it with my last BMB. We did private group I think around halfway through pregnancy, and then FB a month or two before everyone starting having their babies.

@MsBeachNJ yes! The bump is not user friendly at ALL! I couldn’t reply on the app for an entire week. Now I can’t reply via the desktop/website 🙃. All for FB group!

I'm down for a private FB if that's what the majority wants to do. I know my last BMB did a private Bump group first only bc we had a few anti-FB people, so we stuck around on the Bump until all babies had been born, then made the jump for whoever wanted to

Also down for straight to FB if that’s what the majority wants! This app is super buggy for sure. Freezes all the time, and I can’t post in browser/on my laptop despite being signed in.

Love this idea! I’m all for moving to a private FB group. It would be so much easier to engage with everyone’s posts. Definitely voted for early December.

I also would like to go straight to fb. It's hard for me to get on the bump consistently, and I feel like I'm not as active in this group or my previous bmb because I have to divide time between the two platforms. As long as we have a vetting process to screen for catfishes! (In my last bmb, we had everyone send a picture of themselves holding a paper with the date and their screen name to a designated person via pm. I think we added fb name for when we migrated to fb)

People who have been here before - so do these forums pretty much die out once people start private groups? I'm very private and am cautious about sharing personal information with strangers on social media (as lovely as I'm sure people here are). Just curious if these forums stay active at all or if this resource goes away for those not interested in joining private groups (especially FB groups). Thanks!

@flowerchild2022 it depends on how many people aren’t interested in moving the group. I think a lot of our main posters will probably move so it will be up to the others who are still here to create and contribute to posts. I didn’t move to the Facebook group in my last BMB and we still have a few members hanging around but the activity on the board really decreased.

Oh yeah my other BMB has a few members who weren’t on FB initially and created fake accounts with no personal info. Or you can make another fake account in addition to your real account, it sounds annoying to have to switch between the two, but if you’re very private it could be the way to go.

The other thing for ppl to consider when joining the private FB group - you don't have to "friend" anyone in the group, so you're really only sharing what is on your already public profile (name & profile pic) any other information you share to the group would be up to you... so you can keep it as guarded as you like.

@shoogapoff my last bmb we also did where you had to submit a picture with todays date & your BMB name to be added to the FB group - helped weed out randoms!!

I'm very pro right to Facebook if there is appetite for it - I am slow to reply on here these days because I can only do so via computer, not phone!

Just want to flag we're on vacation starting next Wednesday for over a week so if we migrate then - don't leave me behind!!

For those of you who jumped right to FB with your other BMB, how did it work? Like were there just different threads posted on the message boards for all the different weekly things (ie weekly check in, product spotlight, etc)?
Just curious since my last group didn't switch over until post-baby, so we just do a monthly randoms (since the group is small), a pictures thread, and then occasional random ones pop up like BLW when that was a big topic of discussion

@nsk489 we didn’t do straight to FB, but we did make the switch before the babies were born. We did a daily randoms thread (still do), weekly checkin, monthly threads for everything else (memes, symptoms etc). Then everyone did their own birth announcement post. I think we were p much over the product spotlight threads but people would ask questions in the randoms, but it’s pretty easy to add product spotlight or questions threads if people feel the need for it.

The structure hasn’t changed much since before birth tbh, it works well. We also still do HDBD threads only now it’s pictures of our kids, not bellies lol.

If not a lot of members, weekly or monthly randoms might be better than daily.

I love the idea of a private fb group! My last bmb never did a private group and once everyone had babies it just sort of died off lol. I think it's so much more beneficial having the support after the baby is born because there are so many things that come uo with newborns

@maggied26 for real! I found it more beneficial after birth than before. Not just for advice and help, but it made me feel a lot less alone having friends going through the same. Just opening Facebook in the middle of the night during a nursing session and seeing other moms awake and feeding their babies was amazing. Post partum is hard and isolating and it really did wonders for my mental health!

Hi ladies! I pop in every now and than but would love to be more involved! This app is just so hard to operate and I never know where to connect with people. I am a TTM but havent had a child in 5 years so I am honestly lost all over again! I am almost 18 weeks pregnant with a boy and would love to be involved if you'd have me! Please tell me what I need to do to get invited to the cool kids crew!

Hi @arelianrae, I don't think the group has discussed specific criteria yet for who would be invited to the private group, but the main thing would definitely be that other members would need to recognize you/your username. Best way to do that is to start participating more...hop on to any of the threads and post/respond to other members. The weekly check in would be a great place to start

Add me to Team Facebook ASAP. My last bmb did the private group before switching over, but everyone who was in the private group was also on Facebook, and I don't remember anyone joining later, so it might not be a necessary step? I know I am on Facebook 100x more often than this app, so it will be totally more convenient. (Keep that in mind if you're sick of me, lol) Especially with the holidays coming up, it would be easier to streamline it all.

Our setup was similar to what @etnyah said, though we frequently play kid Uno, where you post a picture of your kid that is somehow related to the previous one. In 9/16, we do birthday and Christmas/holiday gift and card exchanges too.

@nonlinear_function I totally agree! I have such a hard time trying to navigate this dang app and I never know where the actual conversions are. It's so hard to get answers when a million other women are asking different questions on the same chat. I think a fb group would definitely be easier to navigate and be able to get direct answers.
