Took my son to the indoor park today and he just wanted to play with a little 8 month old girl (rather than any kids his age or older) and a baby doll most of the time 🥺 it was so sweet and gives me a little hope that it's not going to be terrible when baby sibling comes along lol

@acleverusername as you should be. If I were to get a dog I would want a floppy eared dog. They are sooo cute.

Well, it’s 12:30 and we’re headed home from the ER. Everyone says RSV is bad this year and they’re right. My son got diagnosed with viral pneumonia and after 6 hours at the childrens hospital they sent us home with oxygen.

Well....I am on round 4 of illnesses with no break. First HFM, then RSV, which turned into a sinus infection, and now who the heck knows (testing for covid tomorrow). My son's first birthday is Friday and his party/ baptism is Sunday. We were hosting it a place that's kind of ritzy, just because our tiny house can't accommodate more than like 8 people max, and I have a HUGE extended family (and the in laws offered to help foot the bill!). I don't know what we are going to do if we are all sick! Ugh... and I've been spending all my free time party prepping, making balloon columns and garlands, making the decorations and filling for the cake. I feel like OF COURSE we would get covid for his party! It would be such a waste of time, money, and energy if we can't have it Sunday. 😪

Please send all the good vibes that we all feel better ASAP, and that it is not covid, and whatever it is, it's super quick and mild.

@iiirene how is your son doing? This season has been SOOOO bad for illneses by us. Literally every kid I know is sick right now, except my daughter, somehow! (Knock on wood!)

@scaredunprepared he’s don’t much better. Thanks for asking. We’ve got an appointment with the pediatrician this afternoon and hopefully they tell us he can come off the oxygen. He hates not being able to move freely.

How are you and your whole family doing? I’m very seriously considering quitting my job. My paycheck for this month will hardly cover the cost of child care, if it even does at all, because of all the sick time. It’s going to be a brutal cold and flu season.

In case anyone every wondered what farm life is like...we just got a new (male) goat yesterday and today was spent chasing him around multiple times as he kept escaping every fenced in area we put him in!! My favorite was watching him run and ram his body full force into the gate until he knocked it down 🙄 of course his latest escape was 30 minutes before I had to leave for my doctor's appt lol

We are all managing. Hubby sounded miraculously better today. He tested for covid just in case and it was neg, thank goodness. Our son is still sounding awful, but seems to be acting more like himself. I felt kind of OK today, thank goodness. I am crossing my fingers whatever weirdness we had yesterday was quick and is over now and we are on the mend! Our daughter seems to be escaping all this sickness somehow! Knock on wood.

I spent today unpacking the baby clothes from my son and oh. my. god. How was he ever so tiny??

Also bought some new clothes for him and baby since Primary is having a huge sale (40% off everything, if anyone’s interested!) and I think with the stuff I got and already have, babe has enough clothes for an entire year! I’m glad I kept so much, and I’m also glad I decided on pretty unisex stuff the first time around. Although little girl will have at least one onesie that says “handsome like daddy” (not my purchase lol).

@scaredunprepared I hope everyone stays healthy enough for the party! Sounds like you guys are coming out the other side.

My sons appointment went well and he’s off the oxygen now. I have a feeling this cough is going to hang around forever though. It’s already woken him up 3 times tonight. I just want a full nights sleep again!

@etnyah I saw that primary was having a sale! There was an adorable sweatshirt onesie I might have to go back and purchase.

Discount school supply is also having a pretty good sale. I went ahead and ordered all of my sons stocking stuffers today.

I went to Target for some alone time after I put my son to bed and bought some bath bombs and eye masks and enjoyed the best bath. I also think I may have broken one of my toes trying to reprogram our garage door openers.

it is lingering for both me and my son. I hope you get some good sleep again soon. I haven't gone out after the kids are in bed in a forever but that sounds amazing, and so does your bath! I need to do that soon! But ouch, a broken toe?!?!

@nsk489 my daughter is obsessed with goats. We have a few little farms we visit and the goats are her favorite. She also has 2 goats at her school that they get to walk on leashes. I told hubby our next pet needs to be a goat, but i don't think our neighbors would be very happy about that lol

After I put my son to bed last night I helped my husband in the dark + 30 degree weather for an hour, reinforcing the areas this Houdini goat kept getting out. Apparently we did not succeed bc I woke up and he was again in the wrong field 🤣 he is much sneakier than any other goat we have ever had!!

@iiirene other than the broken toe, the solo Target trip and self care time sound amazing!

My baby boy turned 1 today. I just can't believe it's been a year since our whirlwind, 4 week early, unexpected labor and delivery experience!

He LOVED the singing of Happy Birthday and enjoyed his cake, but was not a fan of the balloons lol. I feel bad he didn't get to open any presents on his actual birthday, but he will get to open a few tomorrow and soooo many on Sunday after his party.

I'm AWing the cake I made because I was super proud of it! The theme of his party is "wild one". Lots of woodland animals and wooden/natural accents, etc. So i give you, rotting tree stump cake!

Do I need to be able to access the sides of the crib? I'm wondering if I can put crib and dresser side by side which will leave little to no room on the sides. See spoiler for nursery plan.

@acleverusername no you don’t need to access the sides, but it could become a safety issue once baby is older and able to climb up on the dresser and fall off/get wedged between crib and dresser. Some babies never try to climb out, but just in case! For when baby is tiny I don’t see any issues though.

Could you potentially switch the recliner and dresser?

@acleverusername agree with @etnyah about potential safety issue when babe gets a little older.
Might also want to consider having recliner near the dresser so you have a spot nearby for anything you might need when you are "trapped" in the chair (ie somewhere to put a drink or snacks for yourself, extra burp cloths, etc.) unless you plan on having some sort of side table or cart nearby

@etnyah sadly no baby movements yet. But I know s/he is moving around like a maniac in our ultrasounds. This week we saw them moving their jaw! SO NEAT!

@nsk489 also important to think about! Thank you! The nursery isn't terribly big so it's gonna take some tetris-ing to get things to be functional AND not an eye sore.

I have a cart from Ikea I used as a nursing station! You'll want to keep a big water bottle, snacks, burp cloths, wipes, nipple balm, a book, plus probably more stuff, so a tiered cart is great if you don't have much space. Plus it's on wheels, so you can move it with you wherever you need it (unless you have stairs, then I'd honestly consider having one on each floor!).

@acleverusername I second what @etnyah said about thinking ahead to the future with the dresser there! They have grabby little hands too so you wouldn’t want anything close enough that they could easily grab it 😂 we have our glider next to the bed and it was nice to only take a few steps when transferring to the crib at night! 😊

@etnyah I have the tiered ikea cart too, it works great! And easy to repurpose when you don't need it as a nursing station anymore. I have my glider in the corner of the room so when it's not in use, I can even tuck the cart behind it
