Re: Product Spotlight: Strollers

  • For S+TMs:

    • Lifestyle factors that might influence your choice: We live in the suburbs and have ample storage space in the garage - which matters because this guy is a BEAST
    • Favorite stroller: City Mini GT Double
    • Link/picture: https://www.amazon.com/Baby-Jogger-City-Double-Stroller/dp/B07YGVFZFH/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=ZHQLTG78GDDK&keywords=city+mini+gt+double&qid=1666627408&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIxLjczIiwicXNhIjoiMS4zMSIsInFzcCI6IjAuNTkifQ==&sprefix=city+mini+gt+dou,aps,135&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1
    • Cost (either actual dollar amount, or just $, $$, $$$, etc.): $599
    • What you like about it: I'm obsessed with this stroller. It is so easy to steer (one handed - easier than our single Graco stroller), totally rolls over any terrain with ease (we've taken it hiking over rough trails with no problems), can become a jogging stroller, is super comfy for my kids, and the shade covers are huge. I also love having the kids side by side rather than in-line - less arguing over seats and it still fits comfortably through door frames
    • What you don't like about it, if anything: Like I said above - it's a beast. It does fold down flat-ish, but still definitely takes significant storage space. You also have to pay for a ton of accessories. The only accessory we've paid for in the almost 4 years we've had the stroller is a carseat converter, which was worthwhile.
    • Is there a stroller you don't have but are considering? Why?: I like the mockingbird - if we didn't already have the city mini I'd go that route I think
    • Is there a stroller you've tried that you absolutely hate? Why?:
    • Additional thoughts?:

  • The baby jogger city mini gt 2 (and the single) are great strollers but they are not made for jogging.

The city mini gt is the greatest stroller. If you’re only getting one, get that one. The only negative is you can’t face the baby (but you can with the car seat snapped in). It has a lay flat seat so you can use it with a newborn without any attachments except maybe a rolled up swaddle blanket, it’s easy to travel with, the sunshade is amazing. We’ve had ours for 5.5 years and it shows no signs of slowing down.
    DD #1: April 2017
    DD #2: May 2020
Baby #3: EDD May 2023; MC October 2022

  • For S+TMs:

    • Lifestyle factors that might influence your choice: we wanted something that would work from birth onwards, would store with a fairly small footprint and fit in the trunk of my vehicle and not take up the entire trunk. I wasn't planning on jogging with it and we usually baby wear if we are doing anything on terrain, so basically it was going to be used on nice smooth terrain.
    • Favorite stroller: we have the uppababy cruz.picked it over the vista purely due to how it fit in the trunk of my car.
    • Cost (either actual dollar amount, or just $, $$, $$$, etc.): We bought it with the bassinet accessory and car seat adaptors and got a colour that was being discontinued, but it was still about $1100cad.
    • What you like about it: love that the bassinet is overnight sleep rated. We used it for DD in our room for the first 3-4 months. It was great when she fell asleep on walks, so just unclip the bassinet, bring that along and let her keep sleeping. We also like that it stands when folded reducing the footprint during storage. Not many others did this when we bought it 2 years ago. The adjustable height handlebar is also great as I'm quite a bit shorter than hubby. Oh and the big storage are underneath...
    • What you don't like about it, if anything: it's not great on any sort of terrain... Basically as soon as you get off smooth ground kiddo is in for a good shaking/ vibrating.
    • Is there a stroller you've tried that you absolutely hate? Why?: I wouldn't say I hate it per say, but it's definately not my favorite. I bought a cheap travel stroller- car seat set and it does the job, while travelling, but I'm sure glad I don't use it everyday. I think it is the safety 1st smooth ride system.... It's not such a smooth ride, but I'm still glad we have it given how awful airlines are with your stuff.
    • Additional thoughts: make sure you go test drive the strollers... We live a little far from stores that carry the ones we were interested in, but it was well worth the drive to get our hands on them and take them for a spin around the store and to see how they would actually fit in our vehicle.
  • I'll second making sure you try out strollers in the store. DH is really tall and that was helpful for finding an umbrella stroller that he could push without hunching over. We inherited our larger stroller from a friend, but since it was used primarily for neighborhood walks we didn't need to be too fussy about it and it worked great.
