Panicked first time mum 😅

Hi all - hoping you can help a panicked first timer 😅 I have PCOS and was told by a fertility specialist I wouldn’t be able to conceive naturally, and when I fell pregnant it was a huge surprise but have now found myself extremely paranoid about whether my baby is okay or not. I’ve had all my scans etc so far and all good - I’m now 14 weeks 3 days. Today my husband and I were running very late for our connecting flight to visit my parents and we jogged a bit and immediately my back started hurting and I got twinging feelings in my uterus (I’ve had them before whilst relaxing but this time it was more frequent). I was so out of breath and every time I started up again they came back. I maybe only ran/jogged a total of 5 minutes with little breaks inbetween and the twinging stopped after about 10 minutes, but then when I went to the bathroom in the plane I saw my knickers were quite wet and I was just hoping it was sweat (I was very sweaty from it as we had to rush so much) but it absolutely panicked me. I’m still feeling very worried. Could I have done damage to little one by that jog? So far since been fine (been about 5 hours now). I’m usually quite fit but haven’t been exercising in a while as have been exhausted and get lower pack pain whenever I do. Thanks so much to anybody who may have some better input 🙏🏻

  • I definitely know the panicked feeling! The good news is that jogging and even running is generally considered safe, and it sounds like whatever you were feeling stopped when you stopped. You might look into round ligament pain and see if what you were feeling aligns with that at all. My midwife told me there’s a lot of weird feelings at that 2nd trimester mark because your uterus is growing so fast and throwing off your balance, organ position, all of that. It’s also good to remember that dehydration can cause lots of weird feelings and even cramping, and I feel like I’m always dehydrated when I fly, so that could have contributed, too.

I’ve definitely noticed that I sweat a LOT more and have a lot more vaginal discharge than I did pre-pregnancy, so wet underwear has become almost embarrassingly frequent, especially if I’m exerting myself or it’s hot out. Chances are that you and your baby are fine!

That said, I’m also a fan of just always calling the nurse line at your OB or midwife’s office to get some reassurance and to find out what, if anything, should make you really worry in that situation. That’s what they’re there for, and they’d rather you call and have it be nothing than not call and miss something that went wrong.

  • Thank you so much for your response and sorry it took so long to reply! I really appreciate the support and help in my post🤗 I went to the midwife today and she listened to baby with a doppler and was happy but I’m going to go to our early pregnancy unit on Wednesday morning for a scan just to be certain. My discharge had changed and is more clear/wet than before so I’m still a bit panicked but trying to stay calm and reassured 😅 can’t believe how much I love and care for my little one and she’s not even here yet! Thanks again 🤗
