December 2022 Moms

Exercise - what are people doing and when can I rest?

I am utterly exhausted and every day is a new surprise of pains, gains, and discomfort. Someday I get light headed out of nowhere and yesterday for the first time I saw stars suddenly while sitting down!!

Complaints aside, I have been enjoying daily 30 minute walks, biweekly 15 minute yoga sessions, a good game of volleyball every week, plus occasional swims and hikes. Up until now I've been really happy and benefitting from this exercise, but now my body seems to be feeling extra big, waddle-ey, my ribs are shifting and hurt most days, and today my groin felt so stretched out that I could barely walk... I wonder if I'm the only one contemplating less and less movement / exercise as I get further into my pregnancy. Just going for walks has been SO DIFFICULT this week and my yoga has dropped off substantially the past two weeks. I have no motivation (or patience to deal with the discomfort and pain during exercise) and want to let it all go.

I was not in great shape before pregnancy but I've never struggled this much with being active in my life!

What are the rest of my December due date mommas feeling like? I would love to hear how your are doing, what activity level your maintaining or how it's evolving, or anything you want to share!

Cheers!

Re: Exercise - what are people doing and when can I rest?

  • I still swim almost daily and it's only activity that didn't change (35 minutes, 1000m swim). I walk to work and back from bus when it's not too hot. It's about 2 miles. I can't walk or hike when it's above 90, so I hope to be able to do more when temperature will be back to normal. I like jogging, but absolutely can't do it now too.

  • I started swimming I am also still using my recombinant bike as I haven’t felt comfortable using the elliptical.
  • I’ve been doing some prenatal barre at Beachbody on demand/prenatal yoga/swimming/walking. But it definitely feels harder physically and motivationally as the pregnancy progresses.
  • Sounds like you’re doing pretty great at staying active!  I was fairly active up until about 20 weeks and that came to a screeching halt when I started getting light headed often.  I started iron supplements and that seems to have helped.  I still can do the stationary bike and some body pump, but stopped running at this point.
  • I haven’t noticed any lightheadedness yet… I’m doing HIIT for 20-30 mins maybe once or twice a week and 30 mins of yoga twice a week. I try to run jog-sprint-walk intervals on the treadmill maybe once a week but I’ve been feeling less motivated as well. Overall though I still feel pretty strong and fast and am trying to do as much exercise and stretching as I can now before I start feeling off balance and uncomfortable!
