Cravings gone wild

I have never wanted more sugar and fast food in my entire life than I do right now. And I’ve had 2 previous pregnancies and never crave sugar this badly. I feel like a bad mom and I’m worried about gestational diabetes. But it feels like I can’t stop myself from having my cravings. Also I’ve already gained 17 pounds and my doctor was concerned. I’m only 14 weeks pregnant. Any advice??

Re: Cravings gone wild

  • With my first two I craved ice cream. I either would give it a day or two for the craving to see if it passed or made myself walk all the way to a Dairy Queen if I wanted ice cream lol

  • I’ve also been eating more Dairy Queen - I get a mini blizzard, which isn’t too bad from a calorie perspective if the rest of the day i eat like I did pre-pregnancy.

I’m also craving sugars and eat fruit ALL DAY. It helps with the cravings without the food guilt.

Im not a doc, but def make sure you’re getting enough fiber to feel satiated.
  • @cheesecurd13 I’m totally team #giveyourselfgrace while pregnant. Eat what you want to eat, and don’t get stuck on restrictions. If you’re concerned, try to make it “better” somehow. So like, if I’m craving chocolate/Nutella, etc, I’ll try to put some Nutella on apples or strawberries, or make a smoothie and put some in it. If you want McDonald’s, try eating a banana or salad or big glass of water first just so you’re not “I’m gonna eat EVERYTHING here.” With DS1s pregnancy I drank chocolate milk a lot instead of just straight ice cream. Often I just want a freaking bagel and cream cheese, so I’ll try to incorporate some protein or fiber somehow too to fill me up better. (Legit just had one and put turkey, lettuce, and tomato on it too). Don’t restrict, don’t go crazy, give yourself grace

  • @sunshine2417 when I was heavy into dieting I did something similar. I'd try to figure out what flavor or texture I was craving and found a healthy alternative. Like for chips I'd have cucumber slices with salt. One day I was craving apple pie so I cut up and sauteed some apples and had them with some maple syrup and cinnamon. I think I used greek yogurt as a vehicle a lot for flavors too if I recall (this was like 6 years ago and my memory isn't great lol)
