𝗙𝗧𝗠/𝗦𝗧𝗠/𝗧𝗧𝗠+/𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱: FTM- and in case anyone else was in this boat, it took me till like a month ago to figure out what these acronyms stood for 😅😂

𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: two parts really, does anyone have any recommendations for online parenting/ infant classes? The hospital near us canceled those in person classes bc of COVID and the online ones they provide aren’t the best (in my opinion)

and two- does anyone else go from feeling ready and capable to absofuckinglutley terrified of being a parent?! Bc it’s a whole emotional rollercoaster lol

Baby's Name (if chosen): we have one we agreed on but I keep thinking about how it might not work, even though it was my suggestion and more to my style than my partners. I might get us to agree on another option so we have a backup if I change my mind on the first one.

𝗨𝗽𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: midwife next week for 6 month check-in, then I think I’ll start having twice a month check-ins for June through to due date. Glucose screen late may.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: super great! My back is surprisingly fine, considering I have back problems in normal times but I have been really proactive with keeping chiro appointments and massages every other week or so. Biggest thing that’s sore is my bra line putting too much pressure on top of tummy at the end of the day - maybe I need a more supportive bra haha. I have a muscle in my butt that pulls every few days but I have exercises to make it calm down and then I forget about it. Still getting headaches almost daily but I take the Tylenol+caffeine pill right when I feel it coming on and can usually avoid it. If I wait to long to take that then i get a pretty strong headache and I need to have a 30 minute sit and relax time after taking the pill for it to finally take effect. Overall I have pretty great energy right now and trying to enjoy this part before it gets physically harder.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: rave - summer weather, my job is so great and calm. (I changed jobs last summer as my last one was very stressful and I am so glad I did before I got pregnant) rant - none right now.

𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀:

𝗚𝗧𝗞𝗬: What's your guilty pleasure? I get so excited daily for ice cream which I probably should be cutting down on and not having daily. But like. I think about it for hours sometimes. And I am eating mostly healthy otherwise so I think it’s ok! Just started adding smoothies as a lunch time option or an afternoon snack and I wake up thinking about them haha … less a guilty pleasure as there is actually nutrients and veggies or fruit at least in there.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: Shitty, at the moment. I have had a sinus infection from hell for the last four days and of course there's almost nothing I can take. So far I've tried neti potting, children's Tylenol, Benadryl, throat spray, essential oils, and tea with lemon and honey and I still feel like my eyes are bulging out of my head and I'm pouring snot. Sending boy person to store for more pregnancy-safe remedies, including some Vicks Vaporub and a saline nasal spray. Sleeping is nearly impossible because I can't breathe. Also starting to get anxious about the "will I be good at being a mom" thing and "how will I juggle the rest of my life and a baby" stuff.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: Rant: Sinus infection (see above). Rave: Officially past my bad milestones. Also, little CJ has been making his presence more known, even some I can feel on the outside (and see a couple times!).

@aly_yates I go from excited to absolutely terrified what have I done too. I already have 1 kiddo that’s 2 years old. This pregnancy is going by really quick.

Also, guilty pleasure for the smutty books too 🤣 so cheesy but still they get me hooked every time!

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: Feeling really good other than being super tired, but I am working well over 60 hours a week right now and think that has more to do with it. Hormones hit me so hard last week I just stayed in bed and cried all day last Sunday for no reason other than just feeling emotional and tired. It’s a rollercoaster for sure!

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: I sent my husband to Target yesterday to do errands and he came back with 3 new swimsuits for me that not only fit me but I actually love. Was so impressed! I can never even find ones I’m happy with when I shop myself. Then he proceeded to fully reorganize our toolbox, pantry and fridge without any prompting. He deserves all the raves this week!

𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: I’m living in New Orleans and with baby due in September I’m trying to decide the best way to arrange a back up plan in case we have another hurricane this year. Does anyone else live in a high-risk of natural disaster place? How does making a plan B work do you just go into whatever hospital you are nearest to to give birth if we have to evacuate the city?

@puzzlehead11 it was a while ago, but my coworker was pregnant when we had Hurricane Matthew. Her doctor encouraged her to evacuate and pick somewhere near a major medical center (and know how to get there) - so from Savannah, I think they went to Atlanta. Tons of tiny towns in between, but if something goes wrong they either send to Savannah, Augusta, or Atlanta.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: Rave, my new phone came in 2 days early! The girls and I had a great time visiting family, and my invites for the summer party came in 4 days early so I could hand those out instead of having to mail them.

Rant: I got a ton of packing done Friday in 2 hours. My husband took down the bunk beds and we put the mattresses in our room. He did absolutely nothing yesterday though while I was gone all day with the kids. Then he gets all pissy today that we need to pack and I have screaming kids. He chooses to pack their stuff and wants to toss out donate their stuff saying we have no room for it. We fought back and forth for a bit. He feels the need every time we move to throw away their stuff and says "people will be buying them more stuff any how" well the stuff I keep, is the stuff I want them to have and not the junk his mother keeps buying them. Tell her to stop buying junk or throw it away when she shows up with all the junk. It's only going to get worse living closer to her and I'm not giving up the nice toys I buy, or that I organize my family to buy for the junk she picks up at the dollar tree every time we see her.

Also he's going to be so happy when the nugget box shows up that my mom and sister are getting for the girls for their birthday later this month.

And there are still 15 more weeks of growing to do !!! My body is just so sore all the time. Sleeping doesn’t help because I sleep in one position…. It’s an Olympic event to turn onto my other side with all of the pillows involved so I just stay in one spot all night. So I wake up more sore.

But I can’t help but smile every time I feel baby bopping around in my belly. It’s all worth it for this little guy.

@melyrae I’ve had at least two people buy gifts I haven’t received by mail at my house. I know they’re attending the baby shower. So, I’m going to say they get an option. Be warned, though, that Amazon will still notify you who bought what. You could not click on the link in the email, though, and avoid the thank you section on your registry so it stays a surprise.

@laj0217 I forgot about that guilty pleasure. We don’t have target in Canada anymore but I do the same thing at HomeSense. I just tell my partner that I need to go have some time by myself to look at things, and I usually don’t even buy anything but I love walking around taking my time and drinking a latte while imagining the possibilities. Other guilty pleasure I missed was buying copious amounts of outdoor flowers for pots around the deck and porch and then just looking at them all the time! Best part is playing with the colour schemes each year!

@millygolitely we just moved to a new house and yard is all shade! I had beautiful vincas and pansies planted in the front of the old house. Guess I need to find some colorful shade loving plants. I could spend $100 easy at the nursery 😬😆

I have minor swelling in my feet, and will probably get some compression socks soon. And UGH, I have some underboob chaffing. Not fun.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: My husband and I were in Portland, Maine this past weekend for his cousin's wedding. We LOVE Portland - it's where we got engaged - and have not been up there since before Covid started. It's the best city ever for craft beer lovers, so it was definitely a downer not being able to drink. But it ended up being a really nice weekend for the two of us. Perhaps just being back in a place that's so meaningful for us, and getting away for a weekend - it was exactly what we needed!

@aly_yates yep, I’m always back and forth on whether I’m doing this whole thing right (and I already have an almost 2.5 year old 🥴). You question every stage you go through but then realize nobody really knows what they’re doing and if they say they do, they’re likely lying lol. I think this is a normal part of becoming a parent.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: I’m feeling pretty good! Bump is definitely popping and getting in the way when I play with our toddler, but it’s only the beginning of that lol. I definitely feel Braxton hicks on the regular now too which is a bit surprising because last time they started a few weeks later than this time.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: rant: why does my newly potty trained toddler forget all this new skills when he’s at my in-laws place but is very good everywhere else?? They kept complaining he kept peeing all over the place last Friday but he’s not like that anywhere else! It’s annoying listening to them complain about it. I bet you they’re following their own rules and not doing what we do, so they’re paying for it with all the clean up. Rave: my mom is back from the states after visiting her relatives for a few weeks so I’m excited to see her. Apparently my aunts and grandma also sent gifts for baby so I’m excited to see what they sent!

𝗚𝗧𝗞𝗬: What's your guilty pleasure? Umm definitely the reality TV 🥴 housewives like @chelsraec except Potomac is one of my faves. I also watch (some) of the 90DF and saw the last couple of seasons of MAFS and MAFS Australia. Below deck shows are fun too. @bigworldlittleg I’m proud to say I’m recovering from the bachelor franchise shows LOL except I still like an occasional paradise season if I remember. The others are too much now. And yes @kboydbowman I’m judging myself too… but my excuse is I have no drama in my life (thankfully) and it’s fun to watch the train wrecks from the sidelines. My husband rolls his eyes every time he sees me watch any of the reality shows.

Stick to your guns about the downsizing, girl! I was like your husband when we moved last spring, and now I have regrets. Although it's been 8 years since having an infant, we had kept some of the bigger items like a nice jogging stroller, pack n play and swing just in case we had company that might have needed them. We donated the items to a women's shelter when we were packing to move.

You could try a C-shaped body pillow or wraparound one?? Right now I use one long body pillow but agree with the struggle to turn over. I don't have a wraparound pillow yet, but I think it's going to happen soon.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: Larger. I overdid it a bit this last week and my back and legs were killing me yesterday evening. I cleaned up the aftermath of the house flooding from all the storms last week, and over the weekend cleaned up the landscaping around the house (with help from the teenager and my 8 year old). It was wonderful to be outside in the sun but all the bending over caught up to me yesterday afternoon. I tried to be consistent about breaks for rest and water throughout the days but I am out of shape and pregnant.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: Rave - my teenager has really picked up the slack in helping out around the house! I am so proud and impressed with him (while also equally annoyed at his hormonal attitude at times) for helping out MUCH more than I've ever asked. Rant - Husband. He keeps looking for things to add to the To-Do list this summer that are NOT priority before baby arrives. We don't have unlimited funds/time/energy to do allthethings in a matter of 4ish months. I snapped yesterday when I dismissed the newest project he suggested for this summer and told him I wasn't interested in anything else to do/pay for unless it was absolutely necessary or emergency.

𝗨𝗽𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: Telehealth week 24 check-in on June 6th. They also gave me the glucose solution for my 28-week GD check. UGH. I went with lemon/lime this time.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: Expansive but good. I'm still not very large and the rest of my body looks the same, but it's the little things. Since I walk doggo in a remote area, I have sometimes just worn a thin zip-up hoodie over my sports bra and if I get warm, I'll zip it down to my belly until some vehicle passes by. However, the zipper now rests on my skin which is super uncomfortable, so I can't do it anymore. I also can't breathe as well when I bend over which is a real bummer.

R𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: Rant: We're having problems with mice in the RV so we've gotten some new traps and I caught one scurrying around the living room before my walk this morning. I'm thankful I managed to catch the little pest, but STILL!

Rave: It's a GIRL and she gave us such a nice, clear view that I felt a little embarrassed. She also gave us a full "hang ten" with those amazingly cute little feet. Hubbs also showered our dog and she's so soft and fluffy now, I am glad she's snuggly because I don't want to stop touching her

so soooooft. I've enjoyed talking to our little girl and using her name.

@pangolindrome stretch marks for me came later when my stomach didn't have any extra skin. A few with my 7lb kid and so many more with my 10lb kid. Hoping I don't get any new ones and this kid is less than 10lbs.

@mnmomma84 definitely stuck to my guns. Most of our baby stuff is already at the other house so I'm not worried about that. I did fill a box of toys that are mainly junk from his mother. ... my husband is much like yours and makes to do lists that are far from priority. Right now if we plan our kitchen under budget we'll have $5k left which is what he would like, but instead of maybe finishing the new bathroom with even just a toilet, sink, and flooring, he wants to add on a back deck. We don't need a deck. We have a deck off the man barn, we have a covered pavilion. We need another toilet.

@bigworldlittleg I love Portland! It was a toss up between there and boston for the weekend, but boston won because my toddler (birthday girl) wants to ride the trains again.

@laj0217 I wish I wasn't allowed to bring in groceries lol. My mom tried telling me my almost 2 year old I shouldn't be carrying anymore and I was like ummmm no is fine.

@bigworldlittleg @newbabymama27 also a recovering bachelor addict. I regret to say I followed many of them on instagram and knew the inside scoop on EVERYTHING. This last season was so bad I quit cold turkey and unfollowed them all. BUT I LOVE Bachelor in Paradise so will watch that. Sometimes it feels good to watch the trainwreck that is that show!

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: Awful. Pregnancy wise I am really good but covid is taking a lot out of me. Constant coughing, congestion and can't sleep well. I have been able to sneak out of a couple short walks and fresh air but I feel like crap. Ready to start feeling better.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: My husband has covid too- Last time I had it (almost 2 years ago) he didn't and we had to isolate at least this time I'm not alone! Also my aunts are planning my baby shower so I am getting really excited. Rants: see above- Covid sucks.

@newbabymama27 both my husband and I are huge fans of Below Deck Med! We've also watched a season or two of Sailing Yacht but the drama seems bigger with Med.

@bigworldlittleg We also watched all of the last season of The Bachelorette, at his request because it took place in New Mexico where we met and used to live, at a resort we'd been to. He'd never seen any of it before and was fascinated / mildly horrified by the rose ceremony and other rituals; it was kind of fun to see the reactions of someone who was just learning about the whole franchise for the first time.

𝗨𝗽𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: Just had my 24 week ultrasound this afternoon and all looks great! NIPT test from last checkup came back clear too. She's measuring in the 30th percentile now which my husband is worried about but doc says it's in normal range. He was in the 98th percentile for all the things, but I was a small baby and stayed pretty much in the lower 50th as a kid. Next one is June 13th where I get to do the super-fun glucose test :P

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: Pretty good, but definitely feeling like just ordinary things like laundry and dishes take more effort. Running still feels great but I really can't go for much longer than 45 minutes now.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: Rant: I'm still holding off from posting grades until the last possible second tomorrow, but it looks like two of my first-year students who've been struggling won't be passing. I never like seeing students fail, but especially when they are more than capable of flourishing if they could just turn things in. Rave: Grading is otherwise done and I'm so excited for summer! We're heading out to see my new nephew for the first time in St. Louis, then going to Connecticut to see the rest of my family for a bit before I settle down for the third trimester. I'm just teaching on online graduate-level class in contemporary literature this semester and then I'll be off from teaching entirely for the fall.

𝗚𝗧𝗞𝗬: What's your guilty pleasure? My husband and I are big fans of Below Deck Med and sometimes Sailing Yacht. We just came upon it while flipping channels in the motel room during our vacation in Lubec, ME a few years ago and it's kind of become a tradition to dive into an old season once the summer weather starts.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: Pretty good, but tired. Our little 14 1/2 year old dog was diagnosed with a brain tumor in March, and while he overall is doing pretty well, he has some behavioral changes. The most notable one is that he MUST be fed between 5:30-6 in the morning, and he is not shy about letting you know. Lately, he has taken to barking at me anytime I lay back down in bed (he could care less what my husband does), whether he needs something or not (I think kind of a senile behavior). Nothing other than me getting up will stop him from barking, so my new wakeup time is 5:30am. Every. Day. But I can't help but give in to his demands, he really doesn't know any better and who knows how long he has left. Good training for the future I guess!

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: Rant: Daycare is expensive, which we knew, but centers are SO DIFFERENT that it takes a lot of research to actually compare them. Some places that seem so nice but a touch more expensive require you to bring your own food (making them more expensive), while some that have less desirable characteristics provide everything baby needs. How does one decide?? Rave: I've finally found a comfortable position with my Frida preggo pillow that has taken pressure off my shoulders, which has helped my hand tingling/carpal tunnel!

@mamamoomoo12 I don't have the commitment to find entire podcasts, but I am a long-time listener of Beautiful Anonymous with Chris Gethard and it's all 60-minute episodes with completely anonymous callers who talk about their lives, and some episodes have been with previous cult members. It's always the weirdest, craziest lives.

@dvmmomma when it comes to daycare, we've been lucky and found two great in home ones. The first was a parent of a couple of our students but all the teachers sent their kids there because her house was next to the school. The one we currently have (in a different town), was recommended by our school preschool teacher. Most of the teachers send their babies to her as well.

I'm not looking forward to having to find something next year if I have to go back to work, I don't think I'd trust anyone from where we live unless we get recommendations from my husband's new colleagues.

@runsonoatmeal I love all the Below Decks because they're so different! Have you seen the new Below Deck Down Under? It has Aesha from Med as the chief stew and an awful chef that just makes what he wants when he wants and says he's in charge, not the guests haha.

@aly_yates I love your response to your husband about finding out the sex! I got lucky, my husband and I both wanted to know so we didn't have any issues. And I love your name ideas, especially Evelyn! I asked about online parenting/birth classes in last week's update (https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12767145/weekly-check-in-week-of-5-8) and a few people replied with suggestions, so you might try there. Also, I love YA books - junk food for your brain!

@kboydbowman I hope the sinuses clear up! I'm right there with you on the "how will I juggle life + baby" worries, I keep noticing things about our house/routine/life that will need to be adjusted. I also looked up our local elementary schools the other day, and yikes! And don't even get me started about the fact that I still need to select a pediatrician. :P

@jhysmath so glad the new phone came in! The family visit sounds fun, too. Good luck with all of the packing, I feel like it's always such a hassle to decide what to keep and when/how to get everything packed up.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: Other than tired, pretty good! ...okay, that's a little bit of a lie. Headachey and muscle sore, too. Still, it's so much better than first trimester that I don't really want to complain. I'm also having a little bit of a hard time with anxiety, I think partly because I'm feeling movement really sporadically. It's really fun when I can feel it, but I tend to get panicky if I go a while without feeling anything. I don't know if I'll ever really feel comfortable/confident about this pregnancy, sigh...it's just so easy to imagine going to our next appointment only to be told that something new has gone wrong.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: My poor husband has been stuck doing a ton of the house work/pet chores while I've been feeling off and falling asleep at 9PM. I appreciate it greatly, but he's also not being the best sport about it. It's causing a bit of friction, because I'm genuinely grateful that he's doing it but I also don't appreciate him getting snippy or sarcastic when we're talking about stuff that needs to get done. We're going to see if we can find room in the budget for some house cleaning help, which should take some of the pressure off, but I'm feeling a little fried right this moment.

𝗚𝗧𝗞𝗬: What's your guilty pleasure? I'm definitely joining the "documentaries and books about weird religions" club that seems to be developing in this group! Scientology is especially fascinating, but it's all interesting. Folks who do podcasts and share this interest might like Oh No Ross and Carrie or Behind the Bastards - neither is 100% cult-focused, but they both touch on cults and religious groups regularly and they're really fascinating. I'm trying to mentally prepare for spending the next I-don't-know-how-many years having to be careful what I watch/listen to, since a lot of my current favorites are definitely NOT kid-appropriate!
