  • We did a forest animal/owl themed room for my first. Still deciding for this kiddo- I want to reause some things. After we moved houses we redid my first sons room as a space theme so I want to reuse as much nursery stuff as possible while still having it feel fresh. We painted the room a blue/green grey when we first moved in since we weren’t pregnant then and didn’t know boy or girl and we’ve painted so much that it’s just staying as is!
thinking more nature with more trees and sunshine and such. I’m not sure if I like “rainbow” baby term but I am drawn towards sun/sunshine things for this little guy. I like to keep things minimalistic too

we have a white crib my MIL is giving us, ordered a white dresser, have a grey recliner/glider from my first, a white bookcase with toy storage at the bottom, and need to get a side table. It’s strange because our last house we had such a small room and this room is huge. Like we use it as our guest room now and hubby is talking about leaving the queen bed ip there for now since when we likely transition baby up there around 6 months, I may sleep in there for a bit. I slept in my sons room for like a month on an air mattress and In This current room it would totally fit with everything  else which is insane to me.

  • @LJMoon6 I know exactly what you are talking about. Our first has an amazing space themed room with the planets and stars painted on the walls. Not as amazing as your Harry Potter but I also feel I can’t just throw paint on the walls for #2. I have decided on a jungle theme and purchased yellow paint for the walls last Friday and decals like the attached. I am excited but ready to get a move on!

    Our Journey:
    Me: 40
    TTC since 2017
    3/18-9/18- IUI's
    11/18- IVF #1
    1/19- IVF #2
8/19- DE Cycle #1- 5 PGS tested normal
    9/19- FET #1- SUCCESS! May 2020
    10/21- FET #2- SUCCESS! July 2022
  • @LJMoon6 omg that Harry Potter room is epic!! I am so impressed! I can see how it would be hard to top that!

We painted our 2nd bedroom a greyish blue before we knew the gender, we just liked the color. It will be a nature theme. We bought a picture that has cute little sandpipers on it. Probably will only have a few more decorations, I’m not the best at interior design!

Anyone know a good place to buy a glider type chair? I want it to be cozy, not like an old fashioned rocking chair. Not sure if that’s something you can get at a regular furniture store or not (most of our furniture is used, lol).
  • I'm terrible at committing to themes.  I have a few hints of things here and there in DS's room (some Harry Potter, a hand painted sign with a poem from a book, etc), but really I lean more toward "blank slate" and fill it with whatever gives me good vibes, lol.

We painted DS's room a light gray on 3 walls and left one wall to paint after he arrived (we were team green with him too).  It ended up a super vibrant blue and turned out really cute, so we'll probably do something similar this time around.

@zinnia19, we have a soft, squishy glider/ottoman set that I found on Amazon that we're going to move from DS's room to the baby's room.  I think it's actually made by Delta, but Amazon had a shockingly decent selection of glider chairs.  I also fell in love with one from babies r us a few years before we had DS, but by the time I was ready to buy BRU was no more.  I don't remember seeing anything similar at an actual furniture store, but I also wasn't looking so it's possible that's an option too.
  • So we have kept the nursery the same for both boys and DS1 moved rooms before DS2 was ready for nursery. Now our nursery is switching because the boys are getting bunk beds and the current nursery is the bigger room. Sticking with the same theme though- travel themed. Boys bunk bed room will be train themed.

@zinnia19 we found our chair at Costco actually. Not always in stores but we love it. It swivels, rocks, reclines and has held up well.

@LJMoon6 love the Harry Potter theme, so impressive and creative!

@LJMoon6 - WOW!!! That nursery is incredible! I love the mobile!

Well I have the inspiration for the new nursery, but we sorta out of the blue last week decided to sell our house and buy a new house. So I probably won't even start on the new nursery until the baby is here and we're settled into a new house (hopefully)! Here is my inspo pic for it - Iove the neutral leopard print, the dusty blue, pale pink and pop of perwinkle:

I love how DD's nursery came out, so it was hard for me to try to think of another design for this baby. Hoping whatever house we end up buying has only two windows in her room because I can't for the life of me remember where I bought her curtains lol. Here are some pictures of DD's room:

  • @zinnia19 our rooms sound similar! We got a chair from Pottery Barn Kids and love it. It was a little more spendy ($600ish on sale) but it has held up super well and is super comfy, easy to clean, and was worth the cost for how much we used it and will continue too - and it matches our bedroom and living room well so it’ll likely go in another room after we are done in baby’s room. It’s a glider recliner.
Looking back the only thing I wish was different was if it had electric recline because I feel like you have to really control the recliner release to not be a sudden change if you have a sleeping baby in your arms
  • We may get some wall decals (woodland theme) but no official theme or painting. Once the housing market cools down, we’re going to get a bigger house so I don’t want to have to repaint lol. We started getting the nursery ready for my first at 20 weeks and then with my second, her room was our guest room, so we never really prepared anything and just slowly transitioned. Now my girls will share a room and we’ll do a nursery for my son. Moving my 2yo to a toddler bed (the crib converts) this weekend to start getting her used to a big girl bed.
  • I wish we could have a nursery this time around but because we just bought a tiny house (like very tiny. 850 sq ft under air 🤣) a nursery is not an option for us.

@LJMoon6 your Harry Potter nursery is so whimsical! I love it. I’m sure that’s going to be hard to beat.

@f@feather_heather your daughters nursery looks like something out of a magazine. In love with it. It’s the perfect quiet, peaceful space.
  • We don’t do nurseries. Our kids always stay in our room til they are around 2 years old and fully weaned. We have a 4 bed room house and 3 kids so this next one will end up sharing a room with someone or maybe some of the older ones will? Not sure where yet but we have plenty of time to decide since they will be in our room. I find these threads fascinating though and major kudos to you planners lol.
  • I did up a cute bright woodland themed nursery for our first son. This time around I plan on doing a woodland at night type of thing. A lot of space and celestial inspired stuff while moving in some of the nature stuff I had for our first son. I was inspired by this children's book called "to the moon and back again". It's about a mom who has journey a long and difficult journey to finally be with her baby. Essentially it's about a mom struggling with infertility and baby loss. One part talks about many people helping along the way and shows an image of all these doctors and professionals helping take the mom to meet her baby on the moon.
  • I think our current plan is a mixture of woodlands and adventure/mountains. DH I think wants a whole wall to be a mountain wallpaper we saw at IKEA that's like a misty mountains or something. I'm just not excited for the idea because that would go on the wall I plan to have the crib on which includes the bedroom door. And of course there's a tiny sliver of wall from the door trim to the wall corner. It's going to be a bitch lol. But hey, if DH is the one that wants to do it then fine.

What are some of the best places for nursery decor items or wall decals?

  • @lilirunning34 I haven’t ever done one either. Actually because of our apartment/housing situation and my husband having to work from home, my oldest has a loft bed in our bedroom and my youngest still sleeps with me. Ive always wanted to do a nursery though, even if we wouldn’t use it 🤣 when we buy a house I’m actually planning to have the three boys in one room until they are teenagers/start complaining about it. I suspect they might be happier bunking together when they are little until they will want and need their privacy. Of course, if I’m radically wrong, we’ll adjust and get them their own space.

  • @tuxielove93 that’s pretty much how it started for us. We were in an apt for the first 6 months of DS1 and then he was in our room til age 2 even after we moved into a house. We sort of half-@$$ decorated a room for him, but then never used it and by the time we moved him he was into different things so now we just skip it. DS1 has a loft bed and DD and DS 2 have twin beds that could turn into a bunk so I guess time will tell on who gets to share a room. I was originally thinking that maybe we’d move in a couple years to a bigger house, but the housing market is crazy and I don’t think we can ever move unless it’s out of state now so we have to make it our own in case we are here for awhile. I do love our house though!
  • Bumping this up since i feel like more of us are in this stage now.

I'm not sure if i want to post a picture of our room here at this point, but curious for how you might fill an open corner in a nursery.  Our last house had rooms that were SO SMALL that it was all about finding stuff that we needed to fit in the space but now our kids rooms are so big that it's nuts.  I have a dresser with changing topper, crib, glider/recliner chair with a small night stand next to it, and a vertical book case with small toy storage at the bottom.  We'll have one corner next to the crib that will just be an open space and i'm not sure what to put there. any ideas?  I was thinking a blanket tower but worry that after kid is mobile that won't make sense.  maybe a tall fake plant?  just have a weird space for now and put a little tent or cozy reading corner there later?  it'll be in the corner between the crib and book case if that helps

Also if anyone has ideas on places to get affordable rugs let me know! the room is carpeted but now i'm also worried about having such a vacant space in the middle.  again this is very different from our last house so i'm so thrown off. I've lived in small spaces for so long that my brain is much better at that! the kids rooms are upstairs and we already have a little play area in our main living space and a big play area in our basement so I don't really need/want a play area up there because I don't think we'll really use it
  • @runnergirl2018 hmmm what about a toy chest or something? I've been thinking about this exact problem too. I expect we'll just have the crib, a dresser with changing pad on top, the glider chair, probably some cart that holds some of the diapering supplies. That leaves at least 1 corner of the room with nothing based on how I have it all configured in my head so maybe it'll be a toy chest or a basket/hamper that holds all the baby blankets.

What are your guys thoughts on wall decor? How much is too much? I know I really want his name up on the wall in wood letters of some kind. No need to go crazy with it right?

  • @inthewoods23 Maybe? I don't like to keep too many toys in the room and the bottom of our book case has a little part that stores toys/stuffed animals already. I have a little cart to store things (burp rags, lotions and stuff) and a hamper that will go on the sides of the dresser
I like to keep things pretty simple.  We have a larger-sized print with a quote on it to go above the crib , then over the dresser we'll have a couple floating shelves and I found a "you are my sunshine" wooden cut outs on etsy that i ordered to put there.  another wall of the room I may hang up some animal prints we had from our first or a this "adventure awaits" thing that I made.  this room is such a stretch for me because there is just one smaller-scale window and my last kiddo's nursury, the windows took up almost a wall and one of the walls was the closet door and bedroom door with just enough space in between for the book case.  I"m more of a "keep things simple and peaceful" in general type person and my hubby is a "cover all the walls", but I usually win.  I really feel like the bedroom should be a calm, peaceful, not over stimulating place for baby.
In terms of anything you buy for the walls - keep in mind how long the kid might want them there when you consider how much to buy and spend
  • @runnergirl2018 hmm I love the idea of a cozy corner! Baby would probably still get enjoyment out of a little tent set up now! Put some twinkle lights inside the roof with some hanging toys and it is a great place to use when they need a break from their "regular" surroundings. We've had one in each of DS's rooms (2 houses). One had a large bean bag and a little tent. Since he's grown it has morphed into more of a "calm down corner". It has fidget buckets, books, fold up pillow bed with some stuffies, calm down jar, lantern. Just a place for him to go to relax or take space if needed.

@inthewoods23 I've always been in the "sparse" camp of wall décor while MH is the opposite - he wants something on every wall haha. I haven't hung up much in our house yet let alone in the girls' room. I'd say yeah, no need to go crazy right now. Love the name idea! And maybe a decorative mirror and a couple of smaller wall art situations? That way when they get older, they can help "redecorate" with what they want and it isn't a huge ordeal to switch out wall décor. I did a geo wall in DS's room (5yo) in lieu of wall art and he seems just as happy haha.
  • @jellie603 yeah maybe just get it set up that way, even if it isn't used for a while.  My son has a rocket ship fort in his room with lights in it and pillows and he uses it intermittently.  He tends to get up before us and has gotten into a good routine of reading books or talking to the cat when he wakes up
I also saw your comment on the wall decor thing and I feel like I could have written the exact same thing!
  • @runnergirl2018 talking to the cat - I love it 😂
  • Love seeing everyone’s nurseries and plans for upcoming decor! Some of you are so talented in the decorating department!

We’re staying team green so, as of right now, we’re still trying to decide on a theme of some kind. The room is already painted a light charcoal grey (which we did when we moved in last year with the intention of it being an office/guest room). I feel like we’re so far behind, but, I did get a crib, glider and changing table that I think I’m going to put together this weekend.
  • @jessie_95 we decided to do a moon and stars theme as I want everything gender neutral even though we know what we are having! Just thought I'd throw that idea out!
  • @novaghost99 oooo great idea! Thank you! Was also thinking of like a woods/woodland type theme as well since fiancé and I both love hiking and camping.
  • @jessie_95 I love the woodland theme! That was our 2nd choice when deciding!
  • We are so behind but he’s our third baby, so I’m not stressing it lol. Plus, he’ll be in our room until Christmas or later. I think we’ll have somewhat of a woodland theme for wall decor but that’s about it. We won’t do anything to his room until we get our daughters sharing a room, which may not happen until after the baby is born. It has to happen this summer though, because I want my oldest used to it before she starts kindergarten this fall!

We won’t be having a nursery this time around because we bought a 2 bedroom bungalow a couple months ago and there’s 8 of us packed in like we are in a camper van 😂 so this baby gets a bassinet next to our bed that hardly fits actually and this reminds me that we need to buy a new bed frame before she gets here so that she will fit in our room… BUT I am LOVING seeing everyone’s nurseries and decor! Keep the photos of the nurseries and accessories coming! I love it.
  • DD’s nursery was also Harry Potter themed, but @LJMoon6’s blows hers out of the water! 🤣

We’re doing a rainbow/dinosaur theme for this LO, here’s some things that are on the registry for it:

  • @creativesoul83 so cute! I love the dino/rainbow combo. You just reminded me that I need a hamper for the babies' room 🤦🏻‍♀️
  • @creativesoul63 super cute!

regarding hampers - find one that is washable/or has a washable insert.  I went with a cute one for baby one and was not thinking clearly. babies can be gross and it got yucky after a while, was fabric, but was one you could only wipe down so afte ra while got kind of stinky. I got an $8 one from target recently with a bag insert that is washable
  • @runnergirl2018 yes, good thinking! I honestly don't even remember having a hamper for DS 😂 so I probably would have bought a cute fabric one this time. I can only imagine all the 💩 and spit of wiped down the sides of those....
  • @creativesoul63 - what a sweet sweet combo! Love it! Can’t wait to see the finished product, if you share it with us!

@courtneyqdk - love the whale/ocean theme! Those colors are so pretty and everything flows so good!

@runnergirl2018 - love the “you are my sunshine” theme! Another unique idea and so very sweet! That sun piece is so sweet!

Im so excited to see everyone’s nurseries, but y’all are making me stress about getting started on mine. Gotta start getting stuff next week after the Easter holiday craziness happens.
  • @runnergirl2018 would you say no to your typical plastic hamper? That was sorta my plan. Just use one we already have.

  • Here’s a question. I’m planning to move the rocking chair from DD’s room to the new nursery because I really don’t see the need to own two rocking chairs. However, I still read DD a story in that rocking chair before bed. We don’t use it for anything else. Any suggestions on what to replace the rocking chair with for DD? She just turned two.
