Re: The big nursery thread!!
I’m at such a loss of what to do for this nursery. We (I) went all out with DS’s nursery (Harry Potter! I’ll share pictures below). So I feel like I need to put a little more thought into this than just painting the walls and getting furniture lol. I know I don’t want anything pink or purple. I don’t want it to scream girly. We also really just need to start cleaning out the spare room. We can’t do anything until then anyways. Hoping we can move out the bed this weekend.

thinking more nature with more trees and sunshine and such. I’m not sure if I like “rainbow” baby term but I am drawn towards sun/sunshine things for this little guy. I like to keep things minimalistic too
we have a white crib my MIL is giving us, ordered a white dresser, have a grey recliner/glider from my first, a white bookcase with toy storage at the bottom, and need to get a side table. It’s strange because our last house we had such a small room and this room is huge. Like we use it as our guest room now and hubby is talking about leaving the queen bed ip there for now since when we likely transition baby up there around 6 months, I may sleep in there for a bit. I slept in my sons room for like a month on an air mattress and In This current room it would totally fit with everything else which is insane to me.

We painted DS's room a light gray on 3 walls and left one wall to paint after he arrived (we were team green with him too). It ended up a super vibrant blue and turned out really cute, so we'll probably do something similar this time around.
@zinnia19, we have a soft, squishy glider/ottoman set that I found on Amazon that we're going to move from DS's room to the baby's room. I think it's actually made by Delta, but Amazon had a shockingly decent selection of glider chairs. I also fell in love with one from babies r us a few years before we had DS, but by the time I was ready to buy BRU was no more. I don't remember seeing anything similar at an actual furniture store, but I also wasn't looking so it's possible that's an option too.
@zinnia19 we found our chair at Costco actually. Not always in stores but we love it. It swivels, rocks, reclines and has held up well.
@LJMoon6 love the Harry Potter theme, so impressive and creative!
Well I have the inspiration for the new nursery, but we sorta out of the blue last week decided to sell our house and buy a new house. So I probably won't even start on the new nursery until the baby is here and we're settled into a new house (hopefully)! Here is my inspo pic for it - Iove the neutral leopard print, the dusty blue, pale pink and pop of perwinkle:
I love how DD's nursery came out, so it was hard for me to try to think of another design for this baby. Hoping whatever house we end up buying has only two windows in her room because I can't for the life of me remember where I bought her curtains lol. Here are some pictures of DD's room:
This time around, our new-to-us house is definitely much. much bigger but the bedrooms are fairly small. That wouldn't have been a problem if we were just expecting 1 🙄. It is currently my office and I'm sad I won't have that space anymore. But I'm so glad I painted it a very neutral light tan. That with darker "tobacco" colored hardwood and white trim, we can really do anything. I'm leaning toward a boho theme - think macramé, moon phases, plants for these babies. We are getting mini cribs and the ones that I love are a sage green - so pretty!
What are some of the best places for nursery decor items or wall decals?

I'm not sure if i want to post a picture of our room here at this point, but curious for how you might fill an open corner in a nursery. Our last house had rooms that were SO SMALL that it was all about finding stuff that we needed to fit in the space but now our kids rooms are so big that it's nuts. I have a dresser with changing topper, crib, glider/recliner chair with a small night stand next to it, and a vertical book case with small toy storage at the bottom. We'll have one corner next to the crib that will just be an open space and i'm not sure what to put there. any ideas? I was thinking a blanket tower but worry that after kid is mobile that won't make sense. maybe a tall fake plant? just have a weird space for now and put a little tent or cozy reading corner there later? it'll be in the corner between the crib and book case if that helps
Also if anyone has ideas on places to get affordable rugs let me know! the room is carpeted but now i'm also worried about having such a vacant space in the middle. again this is very different from our last house so i'm so thrown off. I've lived in small spaces for so long that my brain is much better at that! the kids rooms are upstairs and we already have a little play area in our main living space and a big play area in our basement so I don't really need/want a play area up there because I don't think we'll really use it
What are your guys thoughts on wall decor? How much is too much? I know I really want his name up on the wall in wood letters of some kind. No need to go crazy with it right?

I like to keep things pretty simple. We have a larger-sized print with a quote on it to go above the crib , then over the dresser we'll have a couple floating shelves and I found a "you are my sunshine" wooden cut outs on etsy that i ordered to put there. another wall of the room I may hang up some animal prints we had from our first or a this "adventure awaits" thing that I made. this room is such a stretch for me because there is just one smaller-scale window and my last kiddo's nursury, the windows took up almost a wall and one of the walls was the closet door and bedroom door with just enough space in between for the book case. I"m more of a "keep things simple and peaceful" in general type person and my hubby is a "cover all the walls", but I usually win. I really feel like the bedroom should be a calm, peaceful, not over stimulating place for baby.
In terms of anything you buy for the walls - keep in mind how long the kid might want them there when you consider how much to buy and spend
@inthewoods23 I've always been in the "sparse" camp of wall décor while MH is the opposite - he wants something on every wall haha. I haven't hung up much in our house yet let alone in the girls' room. I'd say yeah, no need to go crazy right now. Love the name idea! And maybe a decorative mirror and a couple of smaller wall art situations? That way when they get older, they can help "redecorate" with what they want and it isn't a huge ordeal to switch out wall décor. I did a geo wall in DS's room (5yo) in lieu of wall art and he seems just as happy haha.
I also saw your comment on the wall decor thing and I feel like I could have written the exact same thing!
We’re staying team green so, as of right now, we’re still trying to decide on a theme of some kind. The room is already painted a light charcoal grey (which we did when we moved in last year with the intention of it being an office/guest room). I feel like we’re so far behind, but, I did get a crib, glider and changing table that I think I’m going to put together this weekend.
Also, we don't live in either of these houses anymore - we have moved twice since DS was born, hopefully in our forever home now
i have some animal /nature stuff too from my first but debating on doing more sun/moon/earth neutral stuff
I just ordered these:
We did an owl/woodland theme for my first that I loved but wanted something different this time
We’re doing a rainbow/dinosaur theme for this LO, here’s some things that are on the registry for it:
regarding hampers - find one that is washable/or has a washable insert. I went with a cute one for baby one and was not thinking clearly. babies can be gross and it got yucky after a while, was fabric, but was one you could only wipe down so afte ra while got kind of stinky. I got an $8 one from target recently with a bag insert that is washable
@courtneyqdk - love the whale/ocean theme! Those colors are so pretty and everything flows so good!
@runnergirl2018 - love the “you are my sunshine” theme! Another unique idea and so very sweet! That sun piece is so sweet!
Im so excited to see everyone’s nurseries, but y’all are making me stress about getting started on mine. Gotta start getting stuff next week after the Easter holiday craziness happens.
