GTKY 4/6

It’s been awhile since we did a GTKY so I thought I’d start one with a question someone asked me recently:

What are you most looking forward to with your little one this summer?

Re: GTKY 4/6

  • Okay so the baby coming in summer is actually very inconvenient for my plans😂 this is my sons last summer before he heads off to kindergarten so we had plans to go do so much stuff, and we are still going to do it, but now there’s going to be a newborn in tow. Super bummed she will be too small to take swimming and what not, but we plan to go to a theme park, aquarium, and do some hiking/camping. Let’s see how that goes with a one month old.

  • @marionberry19 That’s definitely inconvenient! We’ll have to do a “what’s not great about a summer baby” next time lol. My answer to that would be there are a bunch of music festivals that look AMAZING this summer/early fall and I would go to them in a heartbeat.

I’m hoping someone buys us the picnic mat off our registry (recommended by someone here! Can’t remember who or I’d give you credit!) so I can sit out in the front yard in the nice weather with little squirt. We got our front yard redone with sod to help make this dream a reality, assuming we can keep it alive until then.

I’m hoping to bring DD1 to some fun places since she’ll be on summer vacation but we signed her up for a few weeks of summer camp too so she’s not bored with me and the baby if we can’t get out much.  Also hoping this baby will be happy lounging in the shade while I get some gardening done.  Definitely trying to remind myself that this is the last baby and I need to soak up leave and not feel like I need to do stuff.
  • We live about 30 mins from the beach and 5 minutes from a lake with a beach and hiking trails that our 3 y/o loved last year, so hoping we'll get a fair amount of swimming in. No plans for a vacation because I honestly have no clue what to expect with this baby. Our DD was colicky and I would not have wanted to take her anywhere, so we're just going to play things by ear. I am definitely looking forward to summer maternity leave where we can take walks and spend time outside vs. winter previously - the days felt really long and lonely in January/February last time around when we were stuck inside during flu season in the middle of a New England winter.
  • @pinkkillersheep I looked back at some past posts. Is it the House of Noa picnic blanket? If so, it is beautiful.

Looking forward to nice summer weather and cute baby outfits. Would be nice to take a vacation, but don't know where. I still hope one day to visit London and Paris.
  • @romeoandjuliet146 It is! It’s my favorite thing on my registry. I’ve been thinking about a summer vacation too. I have no idea how realistic it is but I hope we can make something happen during my leave.

@idreamofginny So jealous you’re close to a beach and water! That must be so nice.

@KFrob I wish I had a green thumb. Gardening seems like a good goal for the summer.
  • I’m looking forward to tons of outside time. Walks, backyard playing with older brothers.

@pinkkillersheep I’ve never had a green thumb before, it was my random Covid hobby.  My dad is an avid gardener so he helps a ton (or he just doesn’t trust me). I literally just started some veggies in plastic cups on a table by a window on a whim one day.  It blew my mind that I did it and actually grew veggies that we ate!   I got a gardening high lol. Something felt so heart warming about the kids running barefoot through the garden eating cherry tomatoes.  Now I have plans to do a flower bed in our front yard.

@romeoandjuliet146 DH and I fantasize about taking the kids to Paris Disneyland since we get a trip to Paris and they get a trip Disneyland.  It seems like a win win!

I would love to take a family trip this summer.  One of my friends had a June baby a couple of years ago and they did family beach trip while she was on leave. They managed with two older kids and a newborn. I’m tempted to ask her how they did it.
  • @pinkkillersheep @romeoandjuliet146 I think it was me that recommended the House of Noa picnic blanket a while ago! I would honestly say it's an MVP in our house! Aside from picnics (can use it on the ground or over a picnic table), we throw it over our table or island at home when we're doing arts and crafts, painting, decorating Easter eggs, carving pumpkins, playing with water, mobile playmat, can even put it under a high chair if you wanted to make cleanup easier after a baby eats... It's just so portable, easy and durable and makes cleanup painless. We have marble counters in our kitchen and this thing really saves us when we have spills with, say, hot pink Easter egg dye like last weekend that would otherwise ruin our counters!
  • Kid 1 is going to love the pool this year if her love of baths is any indication, so I'm looking forward to that. And let's be real. I'm looking forward to having this baby and then having a champagne cocktail in the hot tub.

Doubt we'll have time or money for a real vacation but maybe if the pandemic stays chill my husband and I can start going on dates again.
  • I have 2 winter babies, so I'm very much looking forward to experiencing a summer baby and not having to dress him in 15 layers just to get our of the house and being exhausted myself by the time he's dressed for our walk. I'm very much looking forward to taking walks in nice weather during my maternity leave. Even if it's hot, I'll take that over being freezing cold and miserable. I'm looking forward to spending weekends at the pool at my SIL's house and being in the newborn phase together with her as she's due a few weeks before me. I'm also looking forward to seeing my kids bong with their new sibling. I watched someone's IG video yesterday where she introduced her 4th baby to her 3 kids and the way it was done + the sappy music made me cry so hard. Also looking forward to seeing more friends and hopefully not being in another wave and socializing with those we haven't seen in a long time.
