𝗨𝗽𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: 4/12 for MFM consult re: my birth plan and cervical ultrasound, 4/29 for regular OB (20 week visit) and cervical ultraound. Second trimester screen blood draw pending, will likely do it on 4/12. They'll call me sometime in the next week or so to set up my anatomy scan - I'll probably try to do that on 4/29 too.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: Pretty decent. Getting some flutters and everything is still looking good on the ultrasounds. Annoyed that the stupid UTI still shows up so they'll probably try to put me on yet more meds. I just finally killed the yeast infection from the LAST round of antibiotics. Sigh.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: Rant - Very over round ligament pain. Also insomnia. And boy person's vetoing of like all name possibilities. Rave - I

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: Good! My back is perma sore and baby is starting to feel “heavy”. But I can feel it move every day now and that’s the most beautiful (and weird) feeling!!! Usually it’s after I pee. Today it moved when I woke up and said “good morning baby!!!”

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: Rave - for the first time all semester I’m all caught up in my marking. Feeling accomplished

I used to sing in musicals in front of hundreds of people but I’m TERRIFIED to do karaoke. I’m scared I’d pick a song that I THINK I know, or think I can sing in that key, but I can’t.

What is the second trimester screen @kboydbowman?

𝗘𝗗𝗗 / 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀 + 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘀: 22nd September, though I am looking at my last ultrasound report is the 16th of September so whenever I see the hospital I will have to clarify. My 6 week dating scan was the 22nd, but LMP and 12w ultrasound were the 16th. There is no mention of my 6 week scan date results in this last report.

𝗨𝗽𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: Waiting to find out when my first hospital appointment will be. Anatomy scan is booked in for the 13th of May which will have me at either 21 or 22 weeks, depending on when they decide my due date is.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: Not bad pregnancy wise. So stressed with everything else, which means I've not really been thinking about my pregnancy much haha. I started a masters this year & I have an assignment due on Wednesday - the subject I'm taking is theory of development and learning, and the uni library doesn't provide a lot of online resources which is proving to be very frustrating. If any of the teachers on here have pedagogies appropriate for adolescents that take the milestones achieved in the four developmental domains into account that'd be great 😜 The thing that has been stressing me most though is work has had like 10 catastrophic failures in 3 weeks, and prior to this we had on average 1 a month, so it has been really intense and I'm working ridiculous hours. So trying to juggle work demands and uni has been very challenging.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: Apart from the stresses no rants to be honest, the end is on the horizon so pushing through for a couple more days. Rave that I haven't put on any weight yet - due to my BMI it is recommended to not gain wait at all during the pregnancy so I am stoked that so far I have been able to keep the weight off. Keen for work & uni pressures to be reduced so I can focus on movement more rather than just diet.

𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Have any overweight mums had their anatomy scan pushed out due to their BMI? The 12w report says I should have it on the 6th of May but for some reason they cancelled that and told me I should have it on the 13th. The 12w report stated "scan quality limited by maternal habitus" which essentially means I'm too fat for the ultrasound to see clearly. Just wondering if anybody else has experienced this?

Otherwise exhausted got into a fight last night with my husband about the fact that he just doesn't get why moving back next year is a terrible idea and I'm just being selfish because this was always the game plan and *i* should have not gotten pregnant when he agreed to a third kid and we were actively trying since last April if I knew we were moving and it wouldn't work teaching. He also did the will not be a 4th kid and I better throw away all the stored baby stuff after this one grows out of it, and that he was mad that I told him we'll see (which I don't remember) when he told me we're done at 3 before we started trying. I think I finally fell asleep around 1 last night then around 4 I couldn't sleep again because my sciatica was killing me.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: rant... All of the above. Rave, I think I've come up with a solution and hoping mh will approve and maybe I don't teach at all next year. Or if I do, I'm taking 12 weeks off and he's figuring out how to support that because right now he's telling me it will be fine financially for me to be home for 8 weeks.

𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: anyone know about running an in home daycare and what I need to do about that so I don't have to teach next year?

@jhysmath I don’t run an in home daycare but I did stop teaching after my third was born. I started babysitting a few months after that. I was lucky that a friend of mine wanted to switch up her childcare right around the same time so I watch her two kids a few days per week. I was teaching at a private school so my low salary combined with the price of childcare for 3 kids … the babysitting was just enough income (under the table) to get us through. While I miss certain aspects of teaching, I have no regrets so far. I’m keeping my license up to date so I can return to the classroom someday.

That sounds so stressful, @jhysmath! I'm not sure if it will help but in Australia you don't have to have any particularly qualifications to run a family daycare as long as you have council approval, but if you want your parents to be able to take advantage of the Government's child care subsidy then you need to have a range of qualifications and certifications. I'm not sure if the US has a similar subsidy that could make things difficult.. I would recommend chatting to your council about what approvals are required to run a family daycare and they may be able to direct you to some more appropriate local sources of information to help you find out what you need to do to set it all up

@laj0217 - my husband is also bad with the litter box then gets shitty when the cats wee and poop outside it because he hasn't cleaned it in a few days. I cannot stand the smell either, so avoid that entire area of the house at the moment anyway, regardless of my risk of picking up a toxoplasmosis parasite 😅

@wiseh I opened the windows the last two days to air it out!! He has instructions that it has to be done today before I get home from work. Luckily, our cats our typical boys, and don’t seem to care how gross they are 😂. We haven’t had an accident outside the litter box ever (12 years). Knock on wood 🤞

Oh luck! My boy cat is worse than my girl cat. He was an only cat for several years before I got my girl cat and has been really pissed off that she mucked up his system of weeing in one and pooping in the other so the slightest inconvenience with his litter tray and he won't touch it 🤣 cats are so funny. I hope those trays get cleaned today 🤞🤞

Also, re: "government subsidy" for childcare.... BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. This is the U.S., they don't help us with anything.

There’s been several almost twitch-like sensations that could have been it, but I have no idea yet haha. Every time I eat something sugary or have caffeine, I try to be super attentive to see if I feel anything haha

@kboydbowman it seems WA is progressive with state funded parental leave? 😜 But yes, I didn't think that would be the case which is such a shame. That makes sense about the extra testing, though annoying to keep having to get tests just because of maternal age 😪

@mk2022x I have resorted to watching TikTok for an hour or so while in bed as it seems to aid my brain in switching off, though that backfires when I get political analysists pop up in my FYP 😅

@JRae2015 We had our friend watch our first so she could have some extra income seeing how she was staying home with her kid already so it worked out for her. Looking at how much we will spend on daycare next year (if it's comparable to here) and playing with my husbands budget spreadsheet it could be completely doable. I used to have my CDL and we know someone who says the district near us is always looking for drivers so I'm thinking I could even drive part time with my kids in their car seats on the bus for a bit of extra income. I just feel like I need a break. I told MH the plans I came up with this morning and that I've even looked at the local colleges and some of them have math openings. I just can't deal with the entitled children who's parents think they can't fail. I'd like to take a break and just figure out what I'm going to do with my life. I told MH that maybe after a year I'd want to get back into the classroom (I don't think I'm SAHM material personally) but maybe I'd like to go back to school and look into getting another degree. I don't know, I don't think I want to have to teach next year though, but I told him that I would try my hardest at the interview and if we both get the positions I'm ready to continue that path for the future. He said he doesn't think we'll get them but he appreciates that I'm going to try and that I've looked into other options, and that staying here where we're at does make a lot of sense because he would come up to the high school (we're losing another math teacher already) and he would take my classes to practice for the Praxis test at the high school level by teaching my classes which have all of the content he hasn't taught yet. I would take the freshmen classes which would also be easier to have a long term sub in because they can do algebra content over precalc. When I told him to apply to the other position that opened up yesterday in that area, he stopped and said I'm not going back without you guys, and that made me feel more like a person too as I really thought he'd be okay living away from us for a year, but then I explained all of the other ideas I could do if he got that position which is closer to our house, our oldest would be at preschool there, and it's actually a middle school position which is his certification.

@wiseh I've looked into being a licensed one which seems to mean I can have 6 kids total and have a bunch of regulations, but I've also been looking into forest schools because we have 100 acres and from what I've been reading there aren't really regulations for that as long as you are outside the whole day every day? Not sure how that would work, I'm thinking a yurt would be nice to escape some of the elements of the winter but I think I need to research a lot more. Right now there looks to be grants at the state level because there isn't adequate daycare availability and we're in a "childcare desert"

@kboydbowman There are government programs for low income families for childcare where I am at, I believe NY has the same thing. My sister utilized it when my niece was young. What she hated about it, was that they had to have her at daycare so many hours a week even though she didn't work every weekday. So if their weekend was Monday/Tuesday and they had to work Saturday/Sunday they missed out on seeing their kid on their "weekend."

@jhysmath you'd have to look into regulations in your state but my sister had one (I worked for her) and it was so much paperwork. We both have degrees in ECE and the paperwork took a lot of the fun out of it. Plus she had to make her house up to licensing standards. Some of them made sense, a lot of them didn't. @babywiik I'm sure you see them more out where you are, I just follow them on IG and dream about them. There's one local to us, but it's a coop and parents are required to come and work a certain amount of days which is not doable when you are a teacher already. I would love for my kids to grow up like that.

It makes it hard to plan anything or be super active because it seems anything will set them off. I keep thinking I feel little flutters and have really started bonding with babe. I sing him a little song every night before bed, its all becoming so real.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: Rants - Everyone seems to be getting Covid again. Raves- My husband and I had a really good conversation about both of our needs during this pregnancy and what our fears and hopes are. It is so nice to have a partner who listens and opens up. I am super stubborn (an enneagram 8) and I know it takes a lot of patience to get me to open up and say what is actually on my mind.

I am in Seattle. This week my sisters mom, my aunt, my 11 year old cousin and a good friend have all tested positive. My mother in law is getting tested today, so fingers crossed its not in my house. I work in a k-8 school and it seems like the only cases so far since taking masks off a few weeks ago are confined to kindergarten.

But there is a lot of other crap going around too.

@jhysmath so sorry to hear things have been stressful! I think the childcare stuff totally depends on country/state/county, so it's hard to know without asking nosy questions. In addition to the rules about your qualifications, there are usually also zoning issues to look into.

Agreeing with everyone whose husbands are bad about litter boxes. My husband is so mad that the cats aren't using it consistently (they've started standing in the litter box but peeing outside of it instead), and I keep biting my tongue against saying "they never did this when I actually emptied the box twice a day."

Emotionally, likewise - I think I got too tired to be in a constant state of panic, and things got pretty busy last week as I've been helping out while a coworker is out of town, and my husband was gone all weekend too. Nice to have some distractions.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: I don't know what I did, but I messed up my right shoulder. It's finally better, but I spent a few days where I really couldn't use my right arm without pretty significant pain. I think it has to do with hormones and loose ligaments, because I slept on my right side for *maybe* an hour or two a few nights ago and woke up in intense pain. That sometimes happened pre-pregnancy if I spent multiple nights in a row on my right side (it last happened when I had hurt my left arm and was trying to sleep on the other side), but 1-2 hours is usually just fine.

𝗚𝗧𝗞𝗬: What would you sing at karaoke night? Karaoke is not my thing...but back when I lived in Colorado a bunch of progressive friends and I discovered that the soundtrack to the musical "Avenue Q" was available on the karaoke machine at our local bar. There's something really hilarious about belting out "The Internet is for Porn" on karaoke night in a dive bar in a fairly uptight, conservative town.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: Turns out my sister, who has a 3-year-old boy, saved practically everything from his infant days - from bassinet to bottle warmer, clothes to burp cloths, and more. So we will get lots of free stuff for our little one...woot woot!

@mamamoomoo12 a little thankful you're so far away. You guys tend to get hit or there a month or so before we get hit so hoping that's the case she it will be after we get back from break. We've been maskless since school started in August and only had one real outbreak so I'm hoping that also remains the same.

@lilienne yeah I figured there were lots of specific things I'd need to do based on location. I don't have any specific ECE credits, but I have gone through all the mandatory classes for ny to get certified there (just haven't sent in my payment). I feel like maybe I need to take some business classes.... Also I messed up my shoulder around Christmas and it was so painful. Shooting pain down my arm if I moved wrong. Thankfully it went away after 3 or 4 days. Hopefully yours heals quickly.

But last night when I was listening to my doppler, I swear there were 2 heartbeats. So now my husband is worried. haha I told him I'm not near big enough to have 2 babies inside of me, but he keeps asking if I want to go to an ultrasound boutique to make sure.

On our honeymoon, we hung out with these 2 other couples and were all very drunk on the last night at Karaoke in St Lucia. Our husbands thought it would be funny to sign me and the other 2 girls up to sing "Strokin"...it actually was hilarious to all the other drunk people, but probably extremely annoying to the sober ones.

@wiseh I think the placenta heartbeat is more the speed of my actual heart rate, right? I could hear that with the swooshing sound on my left side, but could hear 2 different very fast heart rates in the middle and a little above it. I'm assuming he's just big enough now that I can hear it in multiple spots. I really don't think there are 2 in there but my husband is a different story

@whitta1015 the placenta pumps at both mum's and bub's rate because mum's blood flows in and baby's flows out. I just did some googling and seems you can also pick up the blood flow through the cord as well using a doppler, so if you heard 2 close together apart from the other then it could have been the cord. This is why I stopped using my doppler last pregnancy - too confusing 😅

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: Rant: My teenager needs orthodontics and we were quoted $7K for a 2-year treatment plan. It's going to be an expensive couple of years, but worth it in the long run. He's excited to get moving on treatment so at least there's no opposition from him there. Now, if I can just convince him to get a haircut...
Rave: Husband has been so good about getting projects done on the house! He's been getting a budget put together for the teenager's bedroom reno this summer (the boys will get bunk beds and share a room to make space for a nursery). Our garage door broke this morning and he already had a technician out and is getting the mechanics replaced for WAY less than we anticipated!

I hope that glycerin suppository works for you @mnmomma84! I literally thought I would never have a normal poo again during my 1st trimester despite taking 2 types of laxatives and a fibre supplement. I took a glycerin suppository and it was so, so glorious! I liked them because they worked almost instantly and didn't have a lasting effect on me like some laxatives do if you take a bit too much.

𝗨𝗽𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: I have an appointment next week at 16+6, I guess just my monthly check-in

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: I feel mostly good! I've started getting a stuffy nose only at night and only when I'm laying on my right side? When I switch to the left it clears up (maybe my body telling me left side is better lol). I thought maybe I felt baby this morning when I was laying in bed but I don't know what I'm looking for! It could have been anything and it was so faint. I guess we'll see. I also threw out my back but that was unrelated to pregnancy that was just me picking up my cat with bad form. I've also been super attached to my bed the past few mornings despite getting a lot of sleep- it's HARD to get out of bed.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: I am so lucky to have my husband. He is so, so supportive and attentive. I'm so grateful for him every single day.
