This is why our timing is the way it is - my son will be in school when we have to pay for childcare for the new baby. It's awful how expensive it is. Fun Canadian fact: every Canadian province EXCEPT the one I live in now subsidizes daycare and it is $10/day per child!!!
There are political reasons why we don't have it yet but I am crossing my fingers our province gets on board before #2 begins daycare/preschool. Would be a game changer!!
@zinnia19, I got some pumping bras that I put on just when pumping some my hands could be free (they’re the belt-like ones with no straps). I bought one at babies r us when they was still around with my first and got a second later on off of FB. They are pretty much one size (super adjustable). It was nice to be able to play with the baby while pumping or once I went back to work, do sudoku puzzles 😆
@courtneyqdk fingers crossed for you! Universal pre-k is still trying to be passed here in the US, but I have little faith it’ll happen while my kids are still young, if it happens at all. $10/day would be an absolute miracle!
@zinnia19 like @tuxielove93 said, I found the double layer shirts way too complicated when I was BFing DD. I do like nursing tanks underneath rather than regular tanks because it can be uncomfortable to just pull the neckline down/it stretches out the neckline too much. I also bought some shirts/dresses that are crossover v-neck style which makes for easy access but don’t look like nursing tops so I can wear them forever. Since these babies are due in summer I’d recommend just buying nursing tanks to start since it’ll be warm enough to wear them on their own and then invest in more things for fall/winter later if you think you’ll need them.
@zinnia19 you don’t need a full collection of nursing shirts but some would be helpful, or finding shirts with stretchy v necks. I like Latched Mama and old navy and they both often have sales. Mostly just felt like I needed enough of those for when I was doing outings and such. If just at home or even for pumping I would just wear shirts that were easy to pull up and wear a nursing bra. My last nursing bras were mostly from motherhood but that was before they closed all their stores down. I just got a couple to try from Kindred Bravely that I’ve heard good things about. Also pay attention to nursing vs pumping bras as they can be a little different and the pumping ones will provide better support for pump flanges some people say they just double layered shirts but I did not like this for myself personally. I also had a very light weight over the head shawl type nursing cover that I personally really liked as it made me feel more comfortable nursing in public and was also stylish. Everyone has different comfort levels though
@LJMoon6 childcare is crazy expensive. We looked into it here just to relieve some strain from my MIL but it was so much $$. Actually the main reason we are able to have a 2nd kid is because we moved across the country to be closer to family. My 3yr old is in a Montessori preschool but looking into the local daycare it would be even more expensive for him. He’ll be in kindergarten by the time this next little one is ready for preschool so that helps.
@zinnia19 I don’t think nursing tops are necessary, but I would for bras esp ones with no underwire. I’m prone to clogs/mastitis and have gotten it about 4x with each kid. The sleep nursing bras are so comfy too!
