Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Papaya!

Upcoming appointments: not for a couple weeks :/

How are you feeling?: Overall pretty good. Less back pain with this pregnancy but more round ligament pain. I have an anterior placenta this time around so I'm wondering if that's why I'm having more feels in the front than in the back. 🤔

    Rants/Raves:

    Questions:

GTKY: In honor of St. Patrick's Day, what is your heritage? A mix of French, German, British, and Irish mostly.

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Guinea pig

    Upcoming appointments: in 2 weeks

How are you feeling?: good pregnancy wise but I got my daughter’s cold and I’m miserable.

Rants/Raves: we were in CO for spring break and it was awesome!

    Questions:

GTKY: In honor of St. Patrick's Day, what is your heritage? German, English, Scottish, French
  • @jellie603 - Oh man, I can't imagine how uncomfortable you are already! Maybe you can find somewhere to go swimming (aka floating) a few times a week - I imagine that may give you some relief! OMG I'm nowhere near emotionally ready for things like that to come home from school!

@cmhme - We don't have a will yet either! It's also one of our primary goals before this baby is born!
  • @cmhme We don't have wills but do have life insurance plans and I informally asked my brother, after our son was born, if anything should happen to us both if he would be the guardian. Not sure if that's something that needs put in writing. 🤔
  • Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: 24+5, 7/7

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Baby learned this week that laying sideways is NOT comfortable lol. I'm only so wide! We both struggled for a day before I finally nudged him a little and I'm pretty sure he's been head down ever since. All of my kids have done this to me at least once per pregnancy. I'm hoping that was the only time!

Upcoming appointments: Not until 28 weeks. Not looking forward to more frequent appts. after

How are you feeling?: Decent. Been tired the last few days but also been doing too much, so I'm not sure what to blame. Haven't had much in the way of nausea anymore (knocking on every tree in the forest) so hopefully that's finally done with. Definitely feeling baby more now.

    Rants/Raves:

    Questions:

GTKY: In honor of St. Patrick's Day, what is your heritage?  My dad is adopted, so we aren't super sure of everything over there. But he is at least German and Russian. My mom on her moms side has ancestors that came over on the Mayflower (there's documentation somewhere. I found out during a third grade project) and there is some native american mixed in way back. Then there is the Welsh.

@feather@feather_heather My boys all look like twins! The ultrasounds are basically exact matches for all three. And the two who are born look exactly like eachother, especially if you pull photos from the same time. I swear they're going to look like triplets once they're all adults and the same size.

We don't have a will either. I don't know what happens to our kids if something happens to both of us. We don't have anyone who could become gaurdians.

  • @tuxielove93 - Awww so cute! It's so funny how some siblings look so much alike and then other siblings look like they aren't even related lol That is so neat that you have ancestors that were on the Mayflower! I'd love to someday do a deep dive to see how and when my ancestors came to America.
  • @runnergirl2018 am I going to be shunned if I say I've never seen Mean Girls :#:joy:. I thought we were going to be warmer yesterday (like mid to upper 60s) but it barely made it to 60. At least Sunday was also super nice. DH made burgers Sunday and oh boy was that a good dinner choice! Can't wait to have more burgers as it warms up.

@stardustskies That's an interesting thought. I wonder if placenta placement does have a lot to do with where we have pains. Hope you can find some relief!

@lilirunning34 what did you guys do while in CO? I need to get out there sometime. DH and I both have aunts that live in the Denver area. I used to live in AZ and miss the mountains. Hope your cold is short. Feel better!

@sunshineandlemons I like that your dread is about cutting fruit haha. Something so basic. Reminds me of the dread I'll have trying to wash dishes in the sink as we get further along.

@velvetblue88 I didn't get the Mr. Potato Head one either! I guess when baby is curled up in the womb they're the size of a Mr. Potato Head?? Nice job getting 8 hours!! I've been so bad lately getting between 6 and 7 hours :sleepy:

@feather_heather seriously, seeing anything from baby while they're still in the womb is the CUTEST. I gush every time I have an ultrasound and just see a wiggle

@jellie603 can those footballs be filled with helium to make them lighter? lol. Aww that letter!! So adorable!

@cmhme yeah we don't have a will either.... :#. We've got life insurance policies so as long as we add our kid as a beneficiary we're all good right?

@tuxielove93 my SIL apparently laid like that and did a big stretch. It freaked my MIL out haha.

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: baby's big toe is the size of a pencil eraser. Which seems... rather large for his age

Upcoming appointments: routine check up today. Sounds like I get to take home the drink for the GD test to hold on to until 28 weeks

How are you feeling?: sometimes all this kid's movements make me feel a little nauseous. Shoulda put this in the rant/raves section cuz it's both lol. Not enjoying the SI joint pain. Seems better today which is good but I'll still ask my OB about getting some relief. I go back and forth with feeling anxious that we haven't bought ANYTHING critical for baby. No crib. No car seat. Nothing. He's got clothes though

Rants/Raves: I'm excited to have Friday off for our second robotics regional competition. I told DH yesterday that I want to get a photo at the event with my bump on full display so that come this time next year we can take a photo with me holding/wearing baby for a "how it start vs how it's going" photo. I just think it would be the cutest thing haha. Related rave - I finally washed my team shirts in preparation for this week and yay they still fit! I was worried the bump was going to get big enough that it'd be too tight. Might be a little exposed without having a cami underneath or something that's a little longer.

Questions: If you get your breast pump through insurance, how soon do you need to contact your insurance about it to select it?

GTKY: In honor of St. Patrick's Day, what is your heritage? Mostly Polish, followed by German and Bohemian.

  • @inthewoods23 we mostly just went skiing or played in the snow or explored around the ranch we stayed at. I also met up with a friend who moved there a few years ago so it was nice to catch up. I’d love to go there in the summer again and explore the trails. There was so much snow so it wasn’t feasible for this trip.
  • @inthewoods23 - I think I ordered my pump through my insurance like 2 months before my due date and they shipped it like a month before? I'll be switching insurances in June, so I have to wait until then to contact mine - and then I'm going to call and try to convince them to cover a pump that's not listed on their website lol

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: coconut

Upcoming appointments: repeat ultrasound next Tuesday - little man was stubborn and wouldn't turn over at the anatomy scan so she couldn't get a picture of his heart!

How are you feeling?: Mixed. Rested from March Break, but still have lingering covid symptoms. I'm wondering if maybe I have a sinus infection or something else going on now? Family Doctor appt after school to figure it out.

Rants/Raves: Last week I had three nights away, by myself!!! I stayed at my brother's while his family was out of town and I visited a few friends. First time away from my son in 3+ years. It was SO good and I highly recommend to anyone who needs a little alone time before this baby comes to find the time to take it!

    Questions: None atm

GTKY: In honor of St. Patrick's Day, what is your heritage? Scottish, English, Ukrainian and part we don't know as my dad was adopted!

@inthewoods23 I'm in Canada, but in my case I needed a Dr's prescription to get my breast pump covered. It got a little tricky because I bought mine on sale before baby was born, but in the end they were able to back date the prescription and it all worked out fine. Definitely call and ask them before hand if there are any specific rules or requirements to fulfill for your reimbursement!

@cmhme we have the email from the lawyer with the forms to fill out to get ours done but we still don't have it yet - we really need to plan time to set aside and get it done before baby arrives! Have been meaning to do this forever, it is definitely on our "must do" list.
  • @inthewoods23 HIGHLY recommend a will and trust for kiddo. things become very difficult if both of you would die unexpectedly in terms of the rest of your assets and who is in charge of that money and when kiddo gets access to your life insurance
  • @inthewoods23 i would contact your insurance a few months ahead of time for pump. You will likely need a "prescription" from your OB.  there's also some websites you can process things through your insurance through.  One thing to ask your insurance is if they offer coverage for replacement parts or breast milk storage bags
  • @cmhme we did a will before our first was born but i feel like we need to update it and we never did the trust after he was born that we were supposed to. we've moved states since so we need to find a lawyer in our new state...and i don't know that i feel awesome about the one we have.

@velvetblue88 i had no appetite at all my first pregnancy. it came and went some at the beginning of second trimester this time but it's gone again

@jellie603 have you talked to your doc about being itchy? that can sometimes be a sign of gallbladder issues
  • @runnergirl2018 yikes no I haven't. It is only on my belly so I chalked it up to stretching and the fact that I am still in "non-maternity" leggings and tanks haha.

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of:
A grapefruit with dice sized fists today.

    Upcoming appointments:
April 1st is a regular doctors appointment and I’m still waiting on my 3 hour glucose screening results. 🤞🏼

    How are you feeling?:
    Anxious.

    Rants/Raves:
My rant is that I am constantly hungry. I was so sick the first 20 weeks and now that I’m 23 weeks a switch flipped and I am a human grabage disposal. I’ve been trying to watch what I eat and be conscious of my choices, but I seem to have zero self control with it and that kinda scares me. I started this pregnancy over weight (for me) and it’s the only pregnancy that I’ve started overweight so gaining any more weight is freaking me out. I am THANKFUL to have food to eat, I just want to have more self control and not eat so often.

My rave is that I feel more prepared this pregnancy than any of my other pregnancies! Usually I wait until a week before I deliver to scrounge up everything I need and then it’s still not everything and I’m panicking that I need more time. I’ve already got a mini stock pile of diapers ready-to-go, almost all of the clothes we need, bath time stuff, stroller, car seat, bassinet, burp cloths and more. Making an Amazon registry and buying from it weekly has saved my husband and I the agony of last minute prep. It’s been the best and easiest checklist.

    Questions:
    None this week… yet.

GTKY: In honor of St. Patrick's Day, what is your heritage?
I have no idea really. My mom was a proud hillbilly from the Kentucky Appalachian mountains and my dad from Bronx NY. His dad was German but his mother adopted so we aren’t sure 100%. Most people from the Appalachian mountains are a mix of Irish, English and Native American. My mom spoke fondly and proudly of being part Cherokee Indian but I’ve never been blood tested for that
  • @runnergirl2018 so happy to finally be getting some warmer weather!

@feather_heather woohoo on the GD results!

@jellie603 I don't think that's an irrational fear!  I know someone who when pregnant with her third was told at her AS that it was a girl... turns out, nope.  Boy #3.  Also, re kid artwork.  Yes!  I definitely miss the adorable foot/handprint art projects we used to get.  Now I just get scribbly worksheets.

@cmhme I am also a horrible adult with child #2 on the way and no will.  It's especially bad on my part considering my profession... oops.  It must be the same sort of thing as Drs with the whole - do as I say not as I do thing.  To be fair, we have a lot of non-probate stuff set up so there's actually very little that would need to be distributed via a will, but if something were to happen to both of us, then we have problems.

@tuxielove93 this grapefruit is moving all over the place in there.  During the echo last week, we went from baby being at the top of my uterus, to laying sideways, to buried in my pelvis in the course of an hour.  This baby is going to be really unhappy when the rather limited space starts to dry up.

@inthewoods23 I had actually already been looking at pumps, decided which one I wanted to go with, and ordered it - and then we decided to move all of us onto H's insurance immediately, so now I have to get them to cancel it so I can redo it through the new insurance.  Most of the providers (Edgepark, Byram, Aeroflow, etc.) will let you put in your order whenever, but won't actually process it until your insurance allows it (a lot of them are 30 days before your due date).  Also, most of the providers don't require you to contact your insurance or care provider at all.  You fill in the info, and they do all the work.
Unrelated - but Mean Girls is a classic!

Upcoming appointments:  3/30 for a regular appt and 1 hr GD test.

How are you feeling?:  Mostly good.  I've hit the upswing of 2nd tri!  Sleep is still meh, but that's not going to be changing any time soon, so that's fine.

Rants/Raves:  Nothing very rant/rave-y in particular.  We've finalized switching out the health insurance, so that qualifies as both, I guess.  Rave because it gives me the all clear to leave my job - and I'll be dropping that little tidbit on them whenever I can get my boss in private next.  Rant because now I have to pay 2 out of pocket maxes for this pregnancy, but the insurance is so much better cost wise, it's basically a wash for the year.

    Questions:  natm

GTKY: In honor of St. Patrick's Day, what is your heritage?  One of my parents is adopted (old school closed adoption), so we have no idea what is on that side.  The other side is basically all Norwegian.  Probably not actually 100%, but that's where they all track back to.
  • @jellie603 it could totally be normal from the skin stretching but couldn’t hurt to mention it to your OB. Gallbladder issues are common in pregnancy and get missed a lot (happened to me with my first and I had an emergency removal at 7 weeks PP. so wish it had been caught earlier to try to prevent it from getting so bad)

@oli9 My mom always said that too. Then several years ago, my brother got us all DNA kits from 23 and me as a Christmas gift and we found out we have 0 Native American ancestry whatsoever. Seems it's a pretty common misconception around here (Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana) that parents have always told coming generations they have Cherokee blood. Same situation happened to several of my friends when they got DNA kits. 🤷‍♀️
Edit- Not saying it's the same case for you but I feel like the DNA testing kits are worth it for the fun information you find out about yourself.
  • oli9oli9 member
@stardustskies oh I believe it! The mountain folks, like my mom, are very proud people and I’m sure the Cherokee thing is just a tale told from generation to generation and they hold that close so they brag about it deep. After my mom passed in 2017, I went as far as contacting the Cherokee reservation in North Carolina and trying to figure out how to go about genealogy and tracing back any Cherokee heritage and what they do is start with a blood test. The blood test has to come back with more than a certain percentage for them to consider you Cherokee and officially give you a Cherokee card. I haven’t done any DNA tests as of yet, but one day I might just for some peace of mind. I would have hated to have to tell my mom she’s not Native American. 😂
  • @jellie603 I have been itchy too! Mentioned it to my OB at the last appt and she said if it continued for a couple of weeks to get bloodwork done to check for any potential issues. I'm actually going today after work, because it has been a couple of weeks now!

I am hoping it is nothing because we moved North last summer so this is my first really COLD Northern winter, and I am using tons of lotions and such but I am just not at all used to these extreme temperatures. Still, I figure better to get checked out, always better to be overly cautious right?

@novaghost99 I jokingly say that it took a year for our dog to forgive me for having #1. I have also already apologized to him for #2. My dog was an only child for a decade and he was use to certain way of life. He is getting better now but he definitely felt neglected for a long while and showed it by ignoring me and the baby and then having accidents for a little while. I know now to have certain things to make him feel special like a walk before bed and special pets or cuddles when you can. Honestly you just have to understand its a huge adjustment for them as well and they dont have any context for it. We did not have any issues introducing them luckily. The dog was never aggressive and due to covid couldnt do the recommended smell introduction but it all worked out ok.

  • @cmhme our dogs are both older and weren't particularly thrilled with DS either.  They're not going to be super happy about #2, lol.  Luckily, DS is a super gentle kid who gives animals plenty of space and has never harassed them so we never had any aggression issues, but they could really not be any less interested in him in general.  Oddly, one of our dogs was super into him when he was an infant and I totally didn't expect it from her.  Then he started to move around and she was over it!

@novaghost99 it's a good idea to make sure that they have their own space to escape to if they feel overwhelmed and to sort of make that a safe zone where they don't have to worry about anyone bothering them.  Letting them come and go in their own time gives them the space to explore the new person as they're ready.  I also had H bring home some things DS had worn before we got out of the hospital so they could get a pre-intro sniff in.  Honestly, I feel like it's easier in the early infant stage when babies stay basically where you put them and separation is easy.  It gets harder to manage when they move around more, but by then you can have a relationship already established.  As they get older, I think it's very important to make clear boundaries.  Everyone, person or animal, has their breaking point and it drives me crazy when people let their kids harass their pets and expect the pets to just take it.  It's a recipe for potential disaster.  Eventually, aby animal is going to hit its breaking point and even if your family pet never snaps, teaching kids that animals have boundaries is even more important for animals that aren't part of your family and that you don't know well.

@runnergirl2018 and @sunshineandlemons it was so nice early this week in the Midwest! And now rain and maybe even a possibility of snow flurries- over it

@jellie603 I've also been getting more itchy, where it seems like I have almost mosquito looking bumps on my wrists and belly. My OB said to keep an eye on it and if got worse to make an appointment with a family practice doc. She also said hydrocortisone cream was safe to use

@inthewoods23 our insurance this time was very particular about getting the prescription, I want to say it can't be requested until like 6-8 weeks before due date which makes no sense to me

@cmhme I think my husband did our will online paying a small fee and then just needed an observer to sign it with us

  • @LJMoon6 the cost of daycare was one of the biggest cons when H and I were deciding whether or not to try for a second. The only reason I’m not quitting my job (basically my whole paycheck will be going towards daycare with #2) is because I would not be able to pick up where I left off so easily. We’re gonna be so poor for the next three years 😭 fortunately daycare expenses are not forever.
  • @creativesoul63 This is why a third child is likely off the table. It's insane how expensive it is! And they go to one of the cheaper daycares around and only 3 days a week lol. It's basically my whole paycheck too. But I'm just like you, if I took a break now to be a SAHM it would be nearly impossible to get back into my field. And having a career is important to me. So... we're sucking it up, being poor, and doing what we can for the next few years lol.

  • I stay home and work the crap gig jobs I do because we can't really not have any extra income from me, but I absolutely cannot get a job that would afford daycare. I WANT to stay home anyways, but financially its a non-starter for me to work full time.

  • Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: 7/20, a bit over 23 weeks

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: grapefruit but last week was a coconut, which makes no sense. I'd like to offer to be The Bump's produce consultant to get some of these weeks straightened out! LOL. I work in the produce industry so it bugs me. Though you don't need to be an expert to know that a grapefruit is smaller than a a coconut!  :D

Upcoming appointments: Next midwife visit is in a few weeks.

How are you feeling?: Pretty good. The bump is feeling heavier these days and my coats are getting hard to zip! Luckily spring is coming. Lots of baby movements these days, which makes me feel more connected to the little one. :)

Rant: Starting to feel overwhelmed with all the things to be thinking about before baby gets here. Time is flying by at this point! Definitely feeling more concerned about money but my husband is trying to reassure me that things will be fine. Neither of us like to budget so it's hard in that sense. Lots of big ticket items to buy. I know family and friends will buy some of those items, and we can get things used, but it's still stressful.

Rave: We officially signed on with a doula company and will have a team of doulas to work with (one of them will be on call for when labor happens). We are setting up postpartum support with them too. So I'm feeling more prepared in that sense. Also, we went on a trip to see my parents and brothers last week, which was great. A much-needed vacation and family time.

Questions: I'm thinking I need to buy some nursing/pumping bras soon. And nursing tops. Do I need like a whole collection of nursing shirts? I haven't received any as hand-me-downs so need to start from square one. Any suggestions of websites?

GTKY: In honor of St. Patrick's Day, what is your heritage? Irish and German. My parents were married on St Patrick's day so it's extra special!
  • @zinnia19 I have EBF'd two babies, including tandem nursing, well into toddlerhood and have never owned a nursing shirt or bra. I honestly don't find them useful or comfortable. Or easy to use! And like with everything, they are way more expensive than normal shirts, at least in my opinion. I pretty much wear tshirts and will simply lift them up. If its cold or you are uncomfortable, you can always wear a regular tanktop underneath and slip the neckline under the boob and the tshirt over. Complete coverage and full access for baby.

  • @tuxielove93 thank you for that insight! Definitely a relief to hear that they aren’t 100% necessary. Especially cause I’m concerned about the expense. I like the idea of the two layers, particularly if I was going to be breastfeeding in public or around a group of people. I can imagine myself getting self conscious.
