Re: AMA Moms - March

  • Got my booster today.  The nurse who was doing them (at work) and I talked for quite awhile.  She's 39 and had an incompetent cervix issue a few years ago with a resultant 20 week loss.  She's decided not to try again, but has decided to live vicariously through me.  Felt good to have someone who understands what I've been through.

  • I’m doing well! I’ve been completely terrified, since I hadn’t had an ultrasound since 8w. I’m 13w now and just had my nuchal translucency sonogram yesterday (everything looked good) and have my blood work and OB appointment this afternoon. Hearing that heartbeat really made me feel better.
  • Not much of an update other than NT scan and NIPT testing was done Monday this week, and I need to go back to re-do the NT scan since they couldn't get the images they wanted. One thing the genetic counselor was really twitchy about was the fact that I had covid with symptoms and fever of around 101.5 early in the pregnancy. Like, week 3 or 4. She said they don't have much information on how that effects pregnancy and fetal development. That's a little scary to hear, but it sounds like there might be more monitoring due to that and my age. And likely GD. Insert a big sarcasmic 'Yay' and you have my feels about the whole thing. Not necessarily against all the extra monitoring, it's just that I haven't even met with my primary OB yet and the MFM clinic is already trying to get me to make additional appointments. I know they're in the business of being overly cautious, so I'll see how the conversation goes with my OB and if she wants to pass off my care to the MFM clinic.
  • High fevers for any reason are a concern in the first trimester.  Most of the time nothing happens, but it's understandable that they want to keep an eye on you.

  • Hi everyone! Just wanted to give an update: I'm officially in my second trimester and got the good news this morning that all of my chromosomal testing came back normal. And we're having a girl! I finally feel like I can exhale a bit, you know? Hope you're all doing well, also!
  • I’m still here and things are good! Took a break from the boards as my symptoms got bad (alternating nausea and heartburn nonstop) and work has been nuts - basically just crashed on the couch and tried to exercise when I could. But heartbeat was strong at 12 week checkup and 16 week is Monday. Feeling much better and I even had the energy to make some Irish soda bread last night :)

  • I am trying to get some semblance of confidence back...a few weeks ago I felt like I could do anything and this pregnancy was going to be amazing. Now I feel old and like maybe I'm just not up for it. I know it's a mix of fatigue, stress, and uncertainty, but ugh! I genuinely think I didn't have the guts to do this when I was younger, but there are downsides to doing it when older, too.

@runsonoatmeal welcome back! Sorry to hear you had such a rough couple of weeks. Glad you're doing better now!

Some complicated chromosomal stuff going on - our fingers are crossed, but this may not go according to plan!

  • @lilienne thank you! And same! I absolutely know this is the right time for us, but I’ve also been having lots of moments of “geez, can I really do this??” Still waiting for that “burst of energy” that’s supposed to happen second trimester lol.
  • @runsonoatmeal
I don't know that it's so much a "burst of energy" as a "feeling slightly less shitty" lol.

  • @kboydbowman yes that’s a lot more accurate! Or “less pukey.”
  • I will say that the energy is so much better not being pregnant in the fall and losing daylight every day. Both of my other pregnancies I couldn't stay up past 7 with my first I even slept in and was still so exhausted. Something about gaining sunlight instead of losing makes me feel like the energy is so much better this pregnancy.

I'm looking forward to getting to the point that I can cook something and actually want to eat it when it's done. Especially easy crock pots or soups. My husband says we need to stop eating out because we're about to have a mortgage like payment from our reno while still having to pay rent because we don't live there, and our eating out has become excessive due to me not liking anything.
  • I'm doing the opposite for our budget - all I can eat right now is toast, mac and cheese, and one very specific brand of frozen pizza!  :D In the mornings I can do poached eggs (please, no lectures about runny eggs - it's pretty much the only protein I'm getting right now, so I don't care!) but by evening they taste like sulfur. I can't do meat at all, despite being a happy meat eater under ordinary circumstances.

I'm cautiously hopeful that I've been feeling a tiny bit better, physically, the last day or two? But I'm still useless past 6pm and asleep by 10pm at the absolute latest!

  • @lilienne
poached eggs are the best eggs!  No judgment here - that's how I eat them most of the time, pregnant or not.
