I have not, but the Thai I am enjoying right now is super super happy-making.

  • @mamamoomoo12 What is that??? It sounds amazing!

@kboydbowman We have a great Thai place around the corner. We definitely got Thai for lunch yesterday! Enjoy!
  • @kboydbowman we have two Thai places in our tiny town. One is expensive but the chef is supposedly amazing she was on the food network. I've never had Thai and I'm afraid to order something that I won't like because it's an expensive restaurant. What do you recommend? I don't care for peanuts in my food. Not a big noodle fan either. At "Chinese" I order orange beef as my go to.
  • @jhysmath
    1)  How spicy do you tend to like food?
    2)  How do you feel about lemongrass?
    3)  How do you feel about tofu?
    4)  How do you feel about veggies?  Any you avoid?
    5)  Do you like Indian food?

Answer those questions and I can make some better recommendations.

  • we had a babysitter tonight but it’s too cold to eat outside (26 degrees) and we won’t eat indoors because of Covid, so we literally went and picked up pizza and ramen (two different places lol) and ate it in our car. Yay date night!
  • I have had almost no appetite. Everything sounds unpleasant to me and I’ve only been wanting to eat really plain stuff.
  • @kboydbowman

    1. I can do spicy.
    2. I've never eaten lemon grass in something, but I like the way it smells.
    3. Tofu urgh not really.
    4. I'll eat pretty much anything except mushrooms
3/4 it's a texture thing. So if it's diced up in something I can tolerate.
    5. I have only had Indian once, and I made it myself last week, butter chicken, it looked amazing, it tasted like water even though I feel like my entire spice cabinet was dumped in it. When you live very rural, your choices are pretty much pizza or dinner food, but I love trying new things. I used to order blue apron boxes so I could try other veggies that we can't get locally, it's how I found out I love baby bok choy, endive, and fennel.
  • Oatmeal with a sliced pear after virtual yoga class - proud of myself for getting through the class despite morning sickness! Anyone else find they’re just not super-interested in coffee? Like it doesn’t taste bad exactly just kind of meh?
  • I’m on the Mexican train! I find the spicy food sort of neutralizes nausea 🤔😋
Agreed! The spicy craving has surprised me the most since I would think it’d be the last thing I’d want with nausea.
  • @jhysmath Probably any of the basic curries  (red, yellow, or green) would probably work OK for you as good introductory foods. They're usually served with rice. You can often get them to modify the spice level to what you like. If you're into pineapple pizza type stuff, there is also a pineapple curry that is basically red curry with pineapple that is really good.  No peanut in any of those, that's usually more of the pad thai.

  • @magnolia209 it’s a truffle hot sauce and now goes on everything for me!
  • @runsonoatmeal yes! I was completely uninterested in coffee last pregnancy and same this time. I think it’s because I just generally feel kind of nauseous and so it’s just like unappealing to me. By second trimester last time, I was back into my daily cup of coffee though for sure.

@jhysmath my Thai go to’s are pad Thai (which you wouldn’t like bc of peanuts) and pad see ew (which you wouldn’t like bc it’s noodles) - so I am of no help to you! Haha.
  • @runsonoatmeal I don't like coffee regardless but my SIL says that she a cup of coffee is the first thing she asks for as soon as baby is born. All of a sudden it tastes good to her again. Crazy how it can change so fast
  • @runsonoatmeal yes, I stopped with coffee beginning the morning after I took the pregnancy test. I have instead been doing caffeinated tea after I have breakfast, with a little milk, and usually decaf tea later on in the day.
As for what I’m eating, today I was craving eggs so I had some scrambled eggs on an English muffin with cheese…that was my “second” breakfast after a bowl of bran flakes (my usual go to breakfast). Definitely feeling hungrier than usual.
  • I bought a bunch of Chinese food yesterday. I've eaten the crab rangoon and scallion pancakes. I was really looking forward to the orange beef, but just looking at it in like ugh and don't want to eat it. There's left over pizza, I don't want. Stuff too make salad lots of things to eat but none of it sounds appealing. The been and Jerry's phish food sounds good, but that just doesn't seem like something I should eat. I don't feel like I need to puke, but feel blah.
  • @jhysmath You sound exactly like me. Wishy-washy and nauseated, but not about to puke.

  • I have found that in the morning when I'm STARVING I have a banana or fruit of some sort, Greek yogurt, something else, maybe oatmeal (Kodiak so it has protein) and then I have a protein shake with milk. Just 8oz. It helps SIGNIFICANTLY to keep me full (for maybe 1-2hrs) and definitely less nauseous. I read a lot of reviews on protein shakes for pregnant women and they were all *awful*, so I have to be honest and say I just got a whey protein shake in chocolate.

Meat is pretty gross, but I can eat it cooked. And my dear husband, who seasons literally *everything* to the highest degree possible, does not yet grasp that he should stop doing that. I don't need an inch of seasoning on my baked chicken breast!

I also have been making ramen at home and its pretty good, I am fond of it with no meat, but my husband wants it, so we try to compromise.
  • I’m not sure if it’s nerves or my body changing, but my appetite is like nonexistent. I don’t feel sick, just nothing sounds good. Even with delicious food in front of me I still can’t really eat much. I’m only 4 weeks. It was emotionally exhausting telling my parents so I think nerves got the best of me this week!
This is me. I know I need to eat, but I don’t ever really feel “hungry”. Today, I was craving Chinese food. Went out to the local Chinese Buffet, ate one plate of food, went for more but I was so full already. I have been snacking on goldfish crackers and animal crackers.
  • tonight I am having yellow daal mixed with green beans and artichoke/mozzarella chicken sausage.  Nom.

  • The desire for vegetable fried rice is strong with this one. I need it like I need air. My husband is refusing to go find some at 8:50 P.M. in 18°F weather. 😒

  • @trapperkeeper87 clearly this is grounds for divorce.

I asked the boy person to make his spicy pork stew for me yesterday and he obliged.  So I know have a delicious crockpot full of tasty spicy goodness.  It's all I've eaten today (served over rice, of course!).

  • DH and I went on a date night in NYC tonight. It was sooo freezing. We ate in one of those like individual plastic hut things that is “heated” because we won’t eat inside at restaurants currently with Covid and I literally could see my breath lol. It was very very cold. But we had a nice dinner and then, like the pregnant woman I am, we stopped at all of our favorite spots on the way out of town and picked up a large pizza at our fav pizza place and my fav banana pudding from Magnolia bakery. We lived in Manhattan for 10 years before moving out to the burbs right at the beginning of the pandemic and I’m glad we moved, but I sure do miss the food!
  • Eating mostly carbs and cheese over here. Nothing healthy sounds good and it’s killing me, but I also know these aversions won’t last forever! I really miss coffee and can’t wait for it to sound/taste good again 🥲
  • Follow up from last night: I got my vegetable fried rice and it was everything I never knew I needed. 😋
    DD 10/2019
  • @runsonoatmeal coffee doesn’t sound good to me either. The same thing happened in my first pregnancy, until around 12 weeks. I was so tired yesterday so I stopped at Starbucks on my way to work and got an iced coffee. I maybe had 3 sips of it. I miss it so much! Haha
  • @trapperkeeper87
I'm glad - did he cave or did you end up maing it yourself?

  • Took one from @kboydbowman and we had cake for dinner tonight. Nothing dinner sounded good, and my husband got me a cake I asked for for my birthday. It was delicious.
  • @jhysmath yay!  I think I may have another brownie...

Oh, it wasn't about getting him to cave; he happily picked it up from our local Chinese restaurant. We usually eat dinner super early because of our daughter (5:00 P.M.), so "late" last night would have been difficult for him to find.

  • I made risotto with winter vegetables tonight. So good! I’m also starting to crave pastries, brownies, etc. like I did when I was pregnant with DD.

  • I have transitioned from Takis to salt and vinegar chips lol
  • @kboydbowman keto pancakes! Aren't the Kodiak ones keto? I was able to eat those during my gd pregnancy though decided it wasn't good without real syrup.
  • keto "carbs" are generally gross IMHO

  • @kboydbowman I'm just thankful for keto being popular because it meant there was plenty of recipes and ideas out there when I had gestational diabetes and I was able to avoid insulin and medication.
  • I made a really yummy chicken tortilla soup last night. I brought the test in to share with coworkers for lunch today, and I just can't even go in the fridge and look at it because the thought it making me nauseous. I guess I'm thankful my nausea is back a little bit, but crackers are the only thing I have on my classroom now and I'd like something better to eat.
  • @jhysmath I also laugh at some of what gets called "keto."  Like it will have 20 carbs per serving and still be called "keto friendly."  The actual keto diet usually caps your daily carbs at 10-20 total.  For the day.  Most of the stuff labeled "keto friendly" is actually more like Atkins phase 2 or 3.

What I can't eat is anything spicy. I love spicy foods but I had a spicy chicken sandwich the other day and it made me feel so sick. Then yesterday I had BBQ gravy over rice at Sunday dinner (we have a huge family dinner after church every Sunday) and it took all I had not to throw up at the table after eating it. Sooo I guess I can mark spicy foods off the list for a while.
