I had such a long day today, Boy am I exhausted. Also confirmed even further that my dr is a bit of a nutcase. But heβs been around the block and seen a lot of similarly complex cases, so Iβm letting it slide.
9:30 - stop at the lab and chug my glucose drink. I really donβt think its that bad but I love orange soda so maybe thatβs why? Haha 9:40 - run upstairs for my check up with dr. Nothing notable. Discuss he wants an ultrasound in 2 weeks. Hindsight I donβt think he realized I had an ultrasound after the appt with him, scheduling was a bit wonky this time. Β Nothing else discussed (both of these details are this is important later). Also get my TDAP shot. 10:00 - work with nurse to schedule follow up appt and follow up ultrasound for 2 weeks out. Ultrasound team says thatβs really weird usually they will only do ultrasounds every 3 weeks at most. Nurse double checks with dr and he says yes he wants an ultrasound in 2 weeks. Ok cool we get it scheduled. 10:20 - run downstairs to the lab to get my blood drawn 10:30 - run back upstairs for my ultrasound at 11 11:30 - everything looks good on the ultrasound. Still small, but continuing on his own curve so no concerns. Dr pokes his head in says he is very happy and optimistic at everything weβre seeing. As heβs walking out he says βoh and donβt forget NSTs 2x per week starting next weekβ so I say wait what, we never talked about that earlier. He says βoh okay let me write this down for you.β I say βok sounds good, we had only talked about a 2 week follow up ultrasound earlier.β To which he says βoh thatβs not necessary. Thatβs like weighing yourself every 5 minutes. It doesnβt tell us anything new.β So I just laugh and say ok. The ultrasound tech and I just laugh after he leaves. 11:45 - talk with the same nurse as earlier to reschedule my follow up ultrasound for 4 weeks out (Iβm not entirely sure this is what he wanted but whatever I was tired of trying to clarify with him). Schedule 2x weekly NSTs from now until March when I will have my scheduled C-section.Β
Good lord! What a morning! Then I came home and cleaned house to get ready for family coming into town this weekend. Iβm popping some Unisom tonight and passing the heck out!
@Blondesweety444 Whew! Bet you got your steps in today! If you donβt mind me asking, why are they having you do NSTs so often and early? Is it for babyβs size?
@aloha_mama DS5 was born early because of severe IUGR. At 20 weeks he was fine. At 24 weeks he was measuring 3 weeks behind. Approx 20% of the placenta had died due to blood clots. But we donβt know why that happened (they tested me for blood clotting issues and it was all negative). So just to be safe weβre doing NSTs to watch for any placental issues again. My dr thinks last time may have been a fluke but weβre playing it safe.Β
The Bump randomly changed my BMB to January 2022 and changed my pregnancy feed to a newborn feed. Do you know something I donβt? π± lol. I figured out how to change it back though!
Third Trimester is making me crazy. I can't sleep more than 3 hours at a time. This morning I was up at 5am and suddenly remembered that I never actually purchased the back-ordered car seat adapter for my stroller. It's just been sitting in some online shopping cart since November. One hour later, I panic bought not just the adapter but $150 of baby gear... Before 7am on a Saturday... I haven't even had coffee yet.
Not sure if there is a better place to post, but Amazon has the comotomo bottles on sale. 4 bottles, 4 additional nipples - $20. I have bought them a couple times already when they had this sale.Β
How odd. Do you follow any of the discount people on FB? Sarah finds a deal had them posted this morning. It was $20, mine still shows $20. The pic shows 2 bottles but it comes with 4.Β
@FishyMom@SmashJam The listing was really confusing but the comments all said it was four bottles and four nipples so I figured Iβd try itβ¦ When I added it to my cart it said βbottles, set of twoβ and then under quantity ordered it said βtwoββ same with the nipplesβ so Iβm pretty sure itβs a total of four bottles and four replacement nipples! The nipples are on back order but that was an awesome deal, thank you!Β
@aloha_mama@rbflei have either of you seen The Let Down on Netflix?? I was obsessed with it while I nursed with DD1!Β
I also did the whole red light thing but ended up using a little night light that I could turn off and on. Also what is the order of MOTN feeds/diapering? I forget π we do eat play sleep during the day, but did I wake up MOTN and feed and then diaper? I feel like I diapered and then fedβ¦.
@lemonlove86 Iβve had a few people recommend to me recently to not change diapers at night unless theyβre poopy diapersβ that the diapers will be absorbent enough to hold pee through the night and if I have to change every pee diaper Iβll be up literally the entire night. Does anyone have personal insight/opinions on this? So I suppose the routine would be: check for poopy diaper, change if itβs poopy, feed, and then back to sleepβ¦?
@lemonlove86 I was obsessed with that show when I had my first. I totally identified with her as I was sleep deprived trying to figure it all out. I watched that and Working mom's. Both hilarious but totally different flavors. I should add that to my rewatch list. The days at home are long and short those first few months.
@minnie_yoga_mama sorry but I disagree, they're cold and uncomfortable who wants to eat all wet? Then when you don't change them leaks and blow out always seem to be more likely and those are huge pains in the butt. Also even a hint of diaper rash and pee is like acid on their irritated skin. Changing diapers more is just not that inconvenient. Because I'm C-section first few weeks We have a nighttime routine where my husband has baby in bassinet on his side. When baby wakes he starts with diaper change while I literally pull my self up in bed and get ready to nurse. He hands her to me, I nurse and then take her back and tuck her in bed on his side and he's long asleep. Now if she is dry we won't change obviously.
@lemonlove86 Never heard of it, Iβll have to look it up! I always changed diaper and then fed so when she was in a milk coma I wouldnβt ruin it by waking her up all over again by changing her diaper afterwards.Β
@minnie_yoga_mama Definitely at least check the diaperβ the older they get the less they pee at night and they may not need a change every timeβ but if itβs wet it needs to be changed. Sitting in a wet diaper is just setting them up for horrible diaper rashes, no matter how absorbent a diaper claims to be. I think you were interested in cloth diaperingβ¦? I learned the hard way that they have an absorbency up to a certain point and then will completely stop absorbing all together. It only took a few of messy, liquid puddles in the middle of the night all over me and the bed to learn not to skip diaper changes lol no matter how tired I am! Breastfed-baby-poop stains everywhere.Β
@rbflei Thatβs what we did, too! DD slept on DHβs side and he would have MOTN diaper duty so I could prep for breastfeeding. And then he and his useless nipples could go back to sleep lol
@minnie_yoga_mama the first 3-4 weeks I change at eat one because they pee and poop so often and you want to avoid blow outs. Disposable diapers are VERY absorbent though so once the baby gets to like 4-8 weeks (depending on size, how much they are drinking at night etc) I check the diaper but if itβs not puffy and just had a bit of the blue line then I leave it because both my babies slept better. Also depends on the babies skin. My DD has super sensitive skin and got diaper rash super easily. My son never had it ever and he would have these silent poops overnight so I didnβt always catch it Until a few hours later.Β
As with everything kid related the answer is - it depends
@lemonlove86 I changed diaper first, then fed, and would only change again if they pooped while eating (ugh lol).Β
@minnie_yoga_mama Iβd be careful with that. Diaper changes are really quick (if itβs just pee), so to me thatβs a lot easier than risking diaper rash. It can be really harsh on the babyβs skin to sit in a wet diaper all night!Β
Thanks yβall. I definitely did diaper then feed now that I hear what you all did. I did change every pee diaper and slathered aquaphor like cake frosting with every diaper change since I never knew when a poopy diaper would come!Β
Thanks everyone for the input! My initial reaction when this was suggested to me was that Iβd never think of letting a baby stay in any kind of dirty diaper but when several people mentioned it to me I thought it would be a good idea to ask for more insight on here. Sounds like itβs not worth it for the extra risk of diaper rash.
We always had to wake DS5 at night to eat (because he was always teetering the line on failure to thrive due to poor weight gain) so for us diaper changes were a good way to wake up a sleepy baby enough for him to eat. And he typically filled up a diaper to capacity every couple of hours so I wouldnβt want to wait any longer than that. Definitely once he was older we didnβt change the diaper every feed at night, especially if it was just a little snack.Β
@minnie_yoga_mama I think it depends on the kid. My son didn't care if he had a wet diaper but my niece was INSTANTLY upset with a wet diaper. So if my son wasn't already awake then I wasn't checking his diaper and when he woke up to eat we could tell if his diaper was full or not.
The absolute worst is when you just finish feeding, swaddle them, put them down, start drifting up to sleep and then you hear itβ¦ the dreaded poop π.
I did scientific communication for a major diaper company for years. This is true to a point. I stopped changing diapers at night around 3-4mo because by that point babies abilities to regulate melatonin and sleep through the night are developed. Before that you might get lucky, but not all babies can do it. I'm not going to wake up to change a diaper that hasn't woken up my kid.
But here's the thing - baby poop is mostly liquid, but it is what we used to so wonderfully refer to as "mucousy." It really is just kind of like... poop snot? (If it's too mucousy it can be a sign of something to talk to the doctor about, but regular normal baby poop still has some slip to it). So it absorbs, but if the diaper is pretty saturated in pee it's more likely to ooze out the sides before it can absorb. So if you're getting baby up and feeding him/her, it's really not that big a deal to just swap out a pee diaper to reduce the risk of this issue.Β
Also some babies (I think in my other BMB it's mostly boys, just because of anatomy) tend to pee really hard in one particular spot of their diaper, and so that spot is going to become less absorbent a lot faster and might overflow more. You can add things to diapers, though, like sposie pads? I think that's what they're called.Β Β
Anyway, at first you'll likely be changing the diaper before feeding at night to ensure baby is awake enough to take as much of a full feed as they possibly can to hopefully grant you a longer stretch, so you'll definitely get the hang of it and what your particular baby jives with in real time.
@lemonlove86 I just started rewatching The Letdown. Omg it takes me back. Also forgot all the crazy hilarious moments. But it also takes me back to feeling of my head barely above water. I can't believe how it triggered how I even felt the last time I watched it. I will say it's funnier now then when I was living it in real life. Thanks for reminding me of that show.Β
@SmashJam re: the toilet seat...NEVER give in! DH is really good about this, but his ENTIRE family including his sister will leave the lid to the seat up and that just grosses me out. close the lid I don't need your germs spraying all over the bathroom.Β
