Re: Weekly Check In 1-10

  • EDD / Weeks + Days: 8/18 8+4

Baby is the size of a(n): peanut

    Team: finding out!

Upcoming Appointments: First appointment is this Thursday! I have no idea what it entails... I’m typically underwhelmed with the healthcare system in my area, so I’m expecting it to be minimal.

How are you feeling?: I’m feeling sooo tired and also guilty about how unhealthy my diet has been lately.

Rants/Raves: Rant to cold weather and having to wear clothes that aren’t sweatpants. Rave to ice cream and chocolate.

    Questions: None right now!

GTKY- What are you reading or listening to this week? I’m reading “The 1619 Project.” It’s good but I’m having trouble concentrating on it.

  • EDD: Exactly 10weeks one day today

Baby size: size of a strawberry

    Team: not sure yet

Upcoming appointments:  my nutritional appointment was today about healthy eating habits while pregnant

How are you feeling?: super achey in my legs

Rants/raves: little frustrated by I was already put on two weeks bed rest, I'm overdoing too much and need to relax until I'm past 12weeks pregnant. I love to run too but I can't even do that, and to top it off I have a toddler boy with soooo much energy and I feel terrible if I can't run around and play with him if I have to be on bed rest...🥺

Questions: any ideas how to enjoy two weeks bed rest with a two year old boy?

Listening/reading this week?: I've been reading long series called Grey wolves series by quin loftis... late at night after everyone's gone to bed 😅 its an amazing series filled with magic and love and family
  • @mehugg good luck at your appt today! I can definitely feel my uterus popping up already. I specifically asked my dr at my last appt to make sure I wasn’t going crazy. It’s apparently muscle memory and your uterus does get bigger faster with subsequent pregnancies. Currently it’s just pushing my little mom pouch out which is… lovely.

@wigglyicecream I have no clue about the nuggets you refer to! Do you have a link?

@buffythevampireslayer I totally hear you on trying to be positive during the first tri blues. I had to convince mh a little on this baby and I definitely feel like I can’t complain about anything to him.

@halveticca I’m sorry you were put on bed rest. What caused that? I know it’s hard not to be able to run around with your lo's like normal, but right now it’s just for 2 weeks and it’s best for baby. I’ve been so exhausted and sick that I definitely haven’t been playing/romping with my guys as often, but they understand when I explain to them- for the most part.
  • @mehugg +1 over here for the looking like I'm pregnant too soon. I know I instantly gained a bunch of weight after getting pregnant, but the way my stomach is sticking out I look like pregnant. I had to tell DH this week he needs to tell his family. We are seeing them on Sunday. They are going to know.
  • @wigglyicecream ok. Those look awesome and so much fun! I totally don’t have any room for that atm right now. 😕
  • @paytonpedro I’ve wanted one since I was in my 19 bmb and finally have the room since we moved and bought a house. I like them bc they are actually very comfy too

    EDD / Weeks + Days: 8/4 10+5

Baby is the size of a(n): Strawberry

    Team: finding out.

Upcoming Appointments: I have an ultrasound at a Women's center in a week and then NT and NIPT next week Friday.

How are you feeling?: I am exhausted, although I work pretty early 3 days a week so this isn't too unusual. I am rather nervous, TW. I had a MC in May at 6 weeks and my mother had a MMC at 12 weeks that I remember and scares me. My biggest current fear is that I go into the ultrasound and the heart isn't beating. end TW. I am also nervous because at the first appointment I was told it won't be possible to have guarantee that someone will speak Spanish at the birth (if we make it that far) and my partner only speaks Spanish and I need him to understand what is going on during that time.

Rants/Raves: It makes me nauseous to go to the grocery store, but I want food. Also trying to figure out how to advocate for myself in the medical system without being unreasonable.

Questions: Any tips for anxiety around the pregnancy? I am a control freak and pregnancy is something you can't control.

GTKY- What are you reading or listening to this week? I am reading about animal agriculture in developing countries from a wholistic point of view for a class I am TA ing in the spring.
  • @katiecattherese Seems like the hospital should offer a translator, but if they can’t, is it possible to hire a bilingual doula?

I don’t have any advise on pregnancy anxiety, but I am right there with you. We have a weekly check in for mamas who are pregnant after a loss, and there is a lot of support there ❤️
  • @maggiemadeit Thanks for the response. The midwife said that they have translators for patients, but he is the father of the baby and not a patient so they won't guarantee any translation. I am looking into bilingual doulas, they do seem to be in short supply in my city and also a little pricy for a grad student budget. (I am not saying they charge too much, they absolutely do not, its just a pretty large, but potentially worth it, added expense).
  • @halveticca screens are your friend. I promise, it'll be okay and best for all to distract him as much as possible. But if he's anything like my daughter at 2, screens only distract for so long before they antsy-ness begins.

@katiecattherese anxiety during pregnancy is so hard to combat. It was the worst during my first pregnancy, I'd have moments of panic during the first trimester. Try not to go down the google rabbit hole and do not watch any documentaries on birth or the medical system. I made that mistake and got sooo freaked out about everything. Find a doc you trust and who listens to you. Take it day by day. <3

@mangoandguava I watch it on Netflix!! :) If you’ve seen it before I’m sure you probably remember a few parts (some with baby/family dynamics can be a bit emotional.) Just remember this for pregnancy! I know I’m more emotional now. And when something super emotional happens, I have to watch so many episodes more to get my mind off it.😅

    @lmaplejc
I just got a wedge one in the mail today! It’s the perfect size to lay the tummy on. Soft on one side and firmer on the other. Definitely trying it tonight!!

@meh ugh I’m so excited for that! And I think it’ll be great to double shock everyone! It’s the first grand baby for both of our parents, so it’ll be huge telling them we’re pregnant and then later that day revealing the gender!😍😍😍

I’m fairly small and this is first baby, but not gonna lie, the way I hold my bloat that only likes comfy clothes could convince anyone I’m pregnant!😂😂😂
  • @sarahdaley11 I feel you. I'm also an RN. I am ICU float pool but the main need is in our intermediate unit covid so I've been there alot. I told them I'd try to keep working there but I'm so nauseous that not being able to eat or drink is terrible.
  • @sarahdaley11 I read books 1-3 of Outlander last year. I want to read the rest, but they are so long that I have to take breaks in between!

@wigglyicecream I want to read Caste - I read her other book and really enjoyed it. Also, I’ve been feeling disconnected too. It’s my first so I feel like I should feel more connected and have been feeling kind of guilty that I don’t. I appreciate what you said @lmaplejc - I’ve been really anxious about something going wrong, so it could definitely be a mental shield!

@ethancaitlyn10172020 your team answer made me lol

    EDD / Weeks + Days: August 10 / 10 + 1

    Team: Finding out

Upcoming Appointments: I just had one on Tuesday where everything was looking great and have another on 1/27. Since I’m “old” (😭) I had blood drawn this week for cfDNA so I’ll get to find out the gender then (and hopefully get reassured that all is good)

How are you feeling?: I had been feeling much better the past week or so until today - sadly, the nausea is back. At the same time I’m constantly hungry (who knew you could be both nauseous and hungry at the same time), but food generally just doesn’t sound good. Also, the fatigue is real.

Rants/Raves: Rant - Like some others said, I’m ready for the cold to move on. Trying to stick to outdoor activities when possible due to COVID, but the cold makes it difficult. Rave - I’ve been super anxious, but seeing Little Bagel at my appt earlier this week helped relieve that a lot!

Questions: Just wondering if there are other 35+ moms here (I’m 36)? And particularly any first time moms around that age? Feeling kind of old these days.

GTKY- What are you reading or listening to this week? Reading The Paper Palace and listening to an audiobook of Middle March. Also reading pregnancy books off and on (Expecting Better, Like a Mother, and the Mayo Clinic Guide).

  • @curlymils I’m 35! I’ll be 36 when I deliver my first (if all goes as planned). I think it’s hilarious to call myself geriatric but otherwise I’m trying not to feel too old and just looking at all the extra “attention” that will be forced on me by my OB and MFM as a good thing.

    @itsme215 that’s such a great attitude!
  • @curlymils I'm 35 and will be very close to my 36th bday when this peanut is born. But this is my third, however I do feel like if I want another (always wanted 4 kids) then I'll be very pressed for time and I don't like the pressure. Ah well. 35 isn't old! That's my new motto.
  • @curlymils hi! Big Emily Oster fan here, hopefully you’ve gotten to the part where she talks about the concept of you turning 35 and being a geriatric mom is essentially a fallacy. That being said, I’m 34 and will be 35 at delivery, although this is #2. I do think I’m more tired… but I am parenting a toddler though covid, so tired is a never ending stage of being. LOL.
  • @curlymils we are due date buddies! I’m 34 and will be close to 35 when I deliver. I’ll be a few weeks shy only bc I have to have a planned c section. I almost wish they treated me like I’m “super old” bc I would love more US and I also want the blood work but my next appointment isn’t for another 3.5 weeks.

    TW in spoiler

this is my 4th pregnancy and I only have 1 living child who just turned 3. I think it’s hard to connect since my last loss was in January and I haven’t passed the anniversary of it. Hoping once February rolls around I’ll be feeling better.
  • @leahrnmom the nausea is the worst! Luckily I haven’t been too bad but the other night I got floated to a covid unit in the middle of the night and I almost threw up in my CAPR during morning med pass.
  • @curlymils This is my first; I’ll be 35 next month. I’m just trying to laugh about the “advanced maternal age” business because most of the time I find myself wondering how the heck I got to be old enough to be having a baby in the first place!
  • Haha @jenkm1110 same I don’t feel like a real
    adult most days.

This isn’t my first pregnancy but I’ll be 35 in March so I’m considered AMA too 🙄 Interestingly, my pregnancy when I was 26 was way harder than any of my pregnancies in my 30s.

@anniemarie887 Neutrals are usually a good idea. We only plan to have one more baby though (although this morning sickness has me in favor of a nice long space.)😅 Since I love planning/shopping for outfits, and often am getting them secondhand, it’s not too terribly expensive of a hobby. If we have the other gender next time, it’ll give me something fun to look forward to! I’m sure there may be some gender neutral onesies, but most other clothes will be gender or baby specific. We have some boy and girl clothes already and know our parents will want to shop for lots too.😅 As far as car seats, baby carriers, strollers, bouncers, diaper pail, crib, etc.. those things would be neutral. But blankets, clothes, sheets, toys, I want colorful. I think growing up in hand-me-downs gave me a different perspective!😂 I do have a lot of recently married friends, who I’ll be able to pass on clothes to in the future as well!🥰🥰 What talent at responding to everyone! That takes dedication!!🤣

@maggiemadeit Not at all old! And it’s never too late to add some more love to a family!❤️🥰
  • @curlymils I'm 39 and a first time mom. I could be 40 by the time babies are here, if they go all the way to my due date. My birthday (8/17) is 3 days before I'm due.  Geriatric pregnancy. Lol who comes up with these terms?? Although sometimes I do feel like a little old lady. 😅
  • @wigglyicecream sending you all the love. ❤  praying for you and your babies.
  • @wigglyicecream sending you so much love on this pregnancy ❤️ And yay for due date buddies!
  • @sarahdaley11 Oh goodness! I’m sorry you’re having to deal with that at work! I hope that you feel better or will be able to get a prescription! I was able to get Zofran prescribed today.
  • @curlymils I’m so glad sharing that helped.  There is this expectation to feel instant connection the moment you get a positive pregnancy test.  That  just hasn’t been the case for me.  With my son, I kept guarding my heart until after he arrived, and then that connection was so intense it took my breath away.

Also, I’ll be 38 when this baby is born.  I was just shy of 35 with my first.
