How are things going?: still just on the BCPs, but i'm due to start lupron on friday. I seized the opportunity of a break in the snow to drive across the state. arrived home this afternoon and found my lupron waiting for me. no longer quite so stressed out about it not being in my possession!

but guys! the snow has been super pretty and i've been enjoying the opportunity to just wander around my mom's little town glorying in the shiny sparkliness.

Any questions?: have any of you all taken lupron before? what side effects did you experience?

i am not very serious about this kind of thing but usually my resolution is something seemingly simple but apparently impossible that i always fail at like 3 days into the year. hanging up my clothes properly in the closet on hooks instead of piling them all onto my chair like a slob is a perfect example.

@optimistgardener I'm so jealous of the snow! It hasn't snowed here in over 2 years and I miss it terribly. I took lupron when I did my ER a few years ago and from what I remember it basically made me feel menopausal so I had lots of hot flashes. Other than that not too bad. Glad it arrived in time!

How are things going?: Sorry I wasn't around last week! Between the holidays and my work schedule being all wonky because of the holidays also my sleep was all over the place and I didn't have time to get on here. I'm currently in OPK limbo. I was supposed to start taking OPKs on day 10 and call when I got a positive but as of yesterday (day 22) I still hadn't gotten one so the RE scheduled me to come in for a progesterone draw today. Of course today when I wake up the OPK is almost positive and I'm sure by this afternoon it will be. I got the blood work done anyway and sure enough it showed that I haven't ovulated. It's super weird for me because I always ovulate between days 11 and 15 but I guess since it's *TW* only my second cycle post MC *end TW* my body is still adjusting. So once I get my positive OPK I'll be good to start estrace the week after and hopefully do a FET at the end of January/beginning of February.

GTKY: Do you make New Year's Resolutions? If so, what was your funniest or best resolution that you made in the past? I usually make a list of goals for the New Year. I got tired of always putting "lose x amount of weight" and then being disappointed so I usually put things like "less eating out, eat healthier, exercise at least 3 times a week" and last year I had put "have more patience".

@optimistgardener glad you made it home to your Lupron! I am jealous of your winter wonderland. It doesn't snow here which is part of the reason I live here but it's nice to see sometimes!

@shortstack930 how frustrating to have an abnormally long FP when you are anxiously awaiting O! Glad it is in sight now!

How are things going?: I was hoping to wait for PGS results before posting but alas they have not yet arrived. I am in a chat with some other girls who did a December ER with my clinic and a couple of them got results today. Hoping I get the call today too!

GTKY: Do you make New Year's Resolutions? If so, what was your funniest or best resolution that you made in the past? I don't rypically make resolutions and honestly hate being asked (idk why I posted this question 😐) but I always make up something dumb when asked. For example last year I told people my resolution was to pet more dogs.

Update:

Our one embryo came back abnormal, missing chromosome 21.

We are moving on to another retrevial, waiting to hear if it will be Feb or March.

How are things going?: Okay. This time of year always gets me feeling a little down for various reasons. But I’m muddling through. Back to work today so at least there’s routine to keep my mind off stuff.

I usually am horrible and never keep them. But with the weight loss I’ve achieved last few months I think mine will be to try to keep this up and not revert back into eating all the things I really want to lol. Or at least keeping up my exercise routine. I totally slacked on both accounts over Christmas weekend. But I’m back to my diet and exercise routine as of yesterday.

Thank you all for the kind words. Clinic just messaged that I can start stims the last week of Jan for an ER in early Feb. Which unfortunately is DHs bday week but he said to go for it. My birthday is this week so we are going to live it up, have a couple drinks, eat some junk food and relax before we have to behave for the next ER!

@fantasyflyte oh dammit i'm so sorry! i hope you feel well enough to try the old fashioned way when O gets closer. I also just generally hope you start feeling better ASAP, whether you try or not.

I have this sense of impending doom re: what the omicron situ is gonna look like in my classes as soon as they start next week. I live on the west coast which has yet to really feel the omicron wave but it's clearly coming. I feel like it's inevitable that I and most of my students will get sick in January, even though I'm boosted. I wouldn't mind that much (because, being boosted and generally healthy i figure it will just manifest as a cold), but I'm so paranoid it's going to f*ck with my transfer calendar.

@fantasyflyte I am so sorry that you tested positive (and aren't feeling well) and that it impacted your treatment. I hope you get lots of rest and feel better soon! I am wondering the same about my office returning to a work from home environment or some version of it. We only have about 50-60% of our employees back right now.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) SHG, trying on our own

How are things going? I had my SHG today and somehow I didn’t have any polyps. I really thought I was going to have to have another hysteroscopy and I’m pretty relieved that I don’t. I have a follow up on Monday to discuss next steps since I’ve done 3 IUIs without success. My lining is still a nice 17 mm on CD8, so the clomid hasn’t thinned it out at all (I was kind of hoping it would!). Otherwise just trying to muddle through the holidays with complicated emotions.

GTKY: Do you make New Year's Resolutions? If so, what was your funniest or best resolution that you made in the past? In 2020 our New Years resolution was to go up to bed at 10 every weeknight. We did perfectly until the pandemic happened! So maybe we will do that again this year. I always resolve to get my life organized and usually do, only to become disorganized again by 12/31

@bows22 it's sweet of you to remember that! my mom got good news on her most recent scan 2 days before christmas--continued stability on her current drug regimen. This is such great news. I was really gearing up to hear something else and am so grateful that my worries proved unfounded.

Do you have a sense of where the convo is likely to go for the "next steps" discussion?

@optimistgardener yay!!! I think that’s why it stuck in my mind, because I knew you were really worried so I was worried for you! So glad she got good news!

As far as my next steps, my IUIs so far have not been monitored, but she had mentioned in the beginning that we could add in monitoring after a few cycles. So at minimum I’m going to request that so that we know what’s going on in there, but as far as any changes on top of that I really have no idea. My insurance covers unlimited IUIs but nothing on IVF so I’m fine hanging out in IUI land for awhile.

@bows22 I completely sympathize re: the challenge of making fertility decisions under the shadow of insurance policies, and can see why you'd want to keep trying with the IUIs. Would a more monitored IUI mean an IUI with a trigger? What about a more heavily medicated IUI (lower-dose gonadotropins as opposed to clomid/letrozole to cultivate several follicles)? I suppose if I were in your shoes I'd want to push my doctor to "think out loud" a bit more on the topic of your ultra-plush lining, as well re: what impact that may be having.

@optimistgardener I know, I know, I got the same lecture from @kiki047 earlier regarding my RE and pushing for more answers haha. As far as the monitoring, I’m not sure what all it would entail but I am curious to know how I’m responding to the clomid. I don’t know if I mentioned this on here, but you had asked me about my estrogen levels before, and when I went back into my results to make sure it was normal like I was remembering, I noticed that something else was high that led me down a rabbit hole to adenomyosis. I asked about it at my last IUI and the doctor (who I had never seen before) brushed it off with “the only way to tell is by removing the uterus and even if we could diagnose it, there is nothing we can do anyway” which seems like an over-simplification of the situation, so I’m going to bring that up again at my follow up. We’ll see how it goes.

How are things going? Meh. My period showed up last night, a couple days earlier than expected so I’m feeling pretty down. I called my RE’s office this morning so we can get the ball rolling on this cycle. They just called back and I’ll be doing the same thing with a higher dose of Letrozole. I have to get blood drawn again to start the cycle and already scheduled an US. I’m super grateful that they let me do blood work and US locally (and the US tech locally is willing to do the follicular study since my hospital “technically” doesn’t do them). So that’s scheduled for next Friday.

@gingermama29 i'm so sorry your period arrived.

AFM, I start lupron today. I guess I'll do the shot in the evenings? Unless other people have an opinion about this. The internet seems to be mixed as to whether people prefer morning or night. My logic is that maybe if I get side effects I'll sleep through the worst of them.

I'm having minor panic attacks about how I'm going to manage my calendar over the next couple of months. Apart from the usual teaching load and having to drive to my clinic 3 hours away for monitoring and eventually the transfer, my university has decided to turn my temporary position into a permanent position, which is great! but... it's a big national search and I gotta throw my name in the hat with everyone else. If i'm lucky and they do me the courtesy of selecting me for 1st or 2nd round interviews, those might be happening right around the same time as the transfer.

In other news, I'm beginning to get tired of the mucky snow still on the ground here. Amongst other things, it's keeping me from going out jogging and I could definitely use to be jogging right now.

@optimistgardener I am so sorry you are stressing over your calendar, but the permament job opportunity is exciting! Good luck with job application process. Isn't it so crazy to have to apply for the job that you are already doing? I understand the stress though, hopping on board to do a Feb retrieval was not the most convenient of times for me and it has me slightly on edge.

@bows22 you can diagnose adenomyosis with an MRI. My first RE had me do it because there was an ultrasound from the past that alluded it might be the case. I’m gonna throw my hat in with @kiki047 and @optimistgardener and suggest that you try another RE. Surely there’s someone else your insurance covers? Even a 2nd opinion via tele health?

@acleverusername there’s no other that takes my insurance. I actually joined a local IF group on FB the other day to see if I was missing something and there are a lot of people in my boat. The problem is that the insurance company is also a hospital system so they don’t contract with anyone else other than their own providers (there are exceptions to this but not for REI apparently). I did look into a telehealth 2nd opinion at another RE and it was going to be $300 just for the consult. I know that’s not a lot in the grand scheme of things but it’s not nothing. I would just prefer to push my current RE more for answers and be able to have things be covered.

@acleverusername and @bows22 i'm not totally in the "find a new RE" camp but I'm not not in that camp, either, haha. I've seen references to people using lupron as a means of calming adenomyosis (much as they do with endo). usually this is in preperation for a FET, but i'd be curious whether they would ever do it in the leadup to a medicated iui, as well. in general, though (and regardless of my fake-a** medical theorizing), i feel like it would be potentially helpful to at least get a 2nd opinion, as Clever suggests.

@bows22 absolutely speaking, $300 IS a lot of money. So yeah, I see your predicament. Sounds like your hospital/insurance is probably like Kaiser Permanente here; so, definitely ask about the MRI.

Anywho, just trying to give you some more tools. I think the local fertility group is a wicked good idea. I hope you get some answers! Also… there are some REs that will do free remote consults. There’s definitely one in th Bay Area. I can PM you the info.

@optimistgardener @acleverusername I talked about this with @keikilove privately and she mentioned that the lupron sends the body into temporary menopause and some people don’t recover from that so I don’t know if that’s an option for me at my age? But yes that’s why I think the doctor was over-simplifying “nothing we can do.” I do think that my normal provider (who I am seeing on Monday) will be more open to discussion, so hopefully she will have a satisfactory answer as to when we start looking outside of “some people have a thick lining at baseline”

@optimistgardener I always did my lupron in the evenings per my RE's instructions. That sounds really rough about fitting in everything with your schedule. I hope you're able to find some balance.

AFM: Got my positive OPK on Tuesday so I'm able to start estrace next Wednesday! Looks like our FET will still hopefully be at the end of January. Work has gotten crazy lately with the surge in covid cases and I'm trying so hard not to get sick and screw up our FET plans.

@optimistgardener Great news about your mom's appointment! And your position being made permanent! Sorry you have to re-apply but FX they want to keep you in there since you've been doing a good job thus far.// Glad that you were able to retrieve your Lupron in advance of needing it! How long will you be on it? Chiming in on your questions for those of us who’ve tried it: I used it for my first IVF cycle (micro Lupron flare protocol) and didn’t have any side effects. However, I had better results in number of eggs retrieved NOT doing that protocol again. Since then I’ve only used Lupron as part of a double trigger at times (along with hcg). @bows22 is right about the potential for it to cause early menopause depending on dosage and length of dosing. Due to my AMA, that’s why I haven’t used it to treat suspected adeno: with my luck I’d stop ovulating completely. There’s research to support this, but even scarier is all the anecdotal evidence I’ve read of women who wished they’d never done the 2-3 months of Lupron due to the side effects. I think it’s more common with women 40+…. I hope this helps somehow and doesn’t just terrify you about using it! And to add: yeah, your schedule sounds like it's going to get pretty complicated. I'm sorry you have to worry about that as well. Hopefully things will magically flow into place and make it easier on you than you are expecting.

@bows22 Congrats on no polyps during the SHG! That must've been a relief. I really hope you are able to get some specific responses from your RE to your questions about your thick lining. Adding MHO to the group think that maybe it’s time for you to get a second opinion. I hope you’ll be able to do that without having to pay an arm and a leg!

@fantasyflyte I am SO sorry that you have been dealing with COVID! The timing couldn’t be worse, I feel just awful for you. I hope you’re not having too many bad symptoms and that you are able to recover quickly. Hopefully you will be able to move forward with the IUI in the very near future.

Hopefully you've gotten very clear signs by now of what your body is up to.// Can totally relate to what you wrote about your resolutions. @hanshotfirst77 Sorry you've been feeling down during this holiday season. It's certainly been a rough one for a lot of people. I hope that now that the season is behind us, you are starting to feel a bit better. And good luck sticking with your exercise and weight loss! What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Just had another failed FET. This was yet another "was it an early chemical?" but ultimately the result is the same so it really doesn't matter.

How are things going?: Terribly. Again, please skip the spoiler if my posts are bringing you down. The failed FET really felt like the nail in the coffin to me. I spent a few days super just... melancholic....and realizing this very likely isn't going to happen in this body. That combined with a bunch of stupid "Merry Christmas and btw we are welcoming baby #2, #3, #4 in March, in May, in July" blah blah blah really didn't make for a festive season.

**TW: Cancer, Suicide:

My last post was about my friend's teen daughter who tried to kill herself, and then about my friend in her 30s going through IVF and also maybe dealing with a cancer diagnosis. Well thankfully, my friend's daughter recovered from the suicide attempt after more than a week in the hospital. She was in the mental health facility last I spoke to my friend before NYE. Her mom was very grateful to be getting that support and that they are all in family therapy right now. My other friend who was going through IVF did get a confirmation that she indeed has cancer. I sent her some links to grants that will pay for her IVF before she begins chemo. This feels like doing so little when considering what she is faced with right now. On top of this, I have a family member who has been extremely depressed for the past few weeks and I spent the week between Christmas and New Year's on suicide watch. Putting everything on hold to be near them and make sure they didn't hurt themselves, and spending all day everyday on the phone and online trying to get a therapist to see them asap. So, it has been intense, to say the least. I have considered signing off here permanently because life just won't give me a break. And I don't want to keep posting all this super heavy stuff here when we are all dealing with our own burdens. But honestly, the thing that has been weighing on me most heavily is the sad news of the passing of TTGP grad member MVT's husband. I am just devastated for her and her family. And that kind of puts things in perspective--how grateful I need to be for what I have right here right now, because nothing is promised and some are going through far worse.

So, after a few days of consideration, I am giving the new medicine two more months to hopefully work its magic with implantation. There is just too much going on right now so I am taking this month off from trying to get KU. I think I will do one more endometrial biopsy in January and see if my profile comes back any more receptive after taking this medicine. And that biopsy will also serve as the endometrial scratch to assist with implantation in the following month. If that FET doesn't work then I think I will do one more DuoStim and save those embryos for a surrogate. I still have 4 or 5 embryos left so this plan seems reasonable.

@keikilove just sending big hugs. i'm so sorry you're going through all this. what shortstack and bows said re: taking time for yourself and re: posting things here. i'm so sorry that this FET didn't work for you. I agree that taking a break and letting the drug you're on have time to do its work is a good idea. You shouldn't have to be as strong as you are, but you've amazingly, incredibly strong. I am in awe.
Considering how much is on your plate, it is extraordinarily kind to put so much thought into all our replies in your post. i really appreciate your thoughts on lupron. i'm on it for 5 weeks as part of a hormonally controlled FET. 3 weeks @ 10 units, 2 weeks @ 5 units. this may seem unwise, but basically i have so little extra bandwidth right now that i'm just going to trust/hope that it doesn't mess up my cycle for the longer run. we'll see how it goes. so far, so good on the side effects although i gather that it takes a while to ramp up.

@keikilove I’m so sorry friend. Echoing what everyone else has said, don’t worry about posting the heavy stuff. We’re here to support each other and it’s important to have an outlet.
