Hi! Has anyone had experience with the Sneak Peak test? As a momma of 2 boys I’m having a hard time waiting to find out what this one is. 🤣 if you’ve done it I’d love to hear about your experience. Thanks!
Hi friend! Welcome! We have a great big question thread or a weekly Randoms thread that this would fit perfectly into! We try to discourage one offs because they can clutter the board and make those other threads difficult to find. Also, if you haven’t already, feel free to into so we can get to know you better!
To answer your question, I did sneak peek with my second (fall 2017) and it was correct. My sister just did it last summer and it was incorrect. I don’t plan on doing it again this round, although same as you I have two boys and I’m dying to know if I can toss their stuff and paint the world pink, or if I’m just destined to be a boy mom. We’ll probably do an early gender scan.
I haven’t, but only because I’ve opted to wait a little bit longer (between 9 and 10 weeks) and get the NIPT test instead. Guaranteed accuracy, plus you get the genetic info too. If you’re going to be 35 or over when baby is born it’s covered by insurance, otherwise it’s only about $200 OOP so not much more than the SneakPeek. If I did get SP I probably wouldn’t trust the results and go buy things or share the sex until I got confirmation via ultrasound or NIPT so for me it wouldn’t be worth it to find out earlier.

I have not done the sneak peak but I have done the NIPT test, which I plan to do again. I think it helped me in the past feel more bonded to baby, to know the sex sooner.
It's extremely tempting but I just LOVE that moment in the ultrasound room where the tech tells us together. I was shocked with both pregnancies and cried each time. I don't know what to expect this time but I've decided to wait until that moment because now it's like a tradition.
@paytonpedro Thank you so much for sharing your experiences! Sorry about posting in the wrong place, but thank you for directing me to the right place in the future. 😁
Thank you mommas for all sharing! We did the NIPT last time, and after discussing with DH we will most likely do that again. I’m not 35 yet, but will be during this pregnancy so we’d like to make sure everything is ok as well. 🥰
My midwife has offered a blood test. Idk if that’s a “sneak peak” test or..? We’ve always waited til the u/s or birth with our first 3. She offered this though and since this pregnancy is a complete surprise this time, I’m thinking of finding out right away so at least I can have something to plan😆
We did Sneak Peak with DS1 in 2019 at 8 weeks and it was correct! We also did it with our last pregnancy and I assume it was right. We'll do it again this time in a few days but we also plan to do NIPT, so I honestly don't know why I ordered it lol.
my results for mine came in and say BOY !! Looks like a 3rd boy for us … mind you I didn’t realize the chances of contamination and there’s 4 males in this house .. probably shouldn’t have used the kitchen table 🤣
@leahrnmom I’m debating on doing it. I was reading critical reviews and I guess if the prediction is wrong they make you wait until birth before they will refund you. I hope that’s not the case bc if so that has turned me off from wanting to do it. I’m also incredibly impatient and I’m dying to know.
@wigglyicecream and @leahrnmom they make you submit a copy of the birth certificate with the sex on it to receive a refund if they’re wrong. And they make you jump through hoops, and it takes months to receive the refund. My sister just went through this, it said girl and she has a little boy.
@paytonpedro thank you for verifying that. I will probably skip it. I think I will do NIPT bc my insurance covers it but wants pre authorization and when I told my OB they looked at me confused as to how to go about it. Idk guys just send it? Lol
I did the NIPT first time around and plan to do the same this time. I decided to pay the flat $300 "no insurance" route. If it goes through insurance they bill the insurance company like $3,000!!! I have a high deductible policy, and did not want to run the risk of insurance not paying anything, then being stuck with a $3,000 bill!
@malloryfrommn same as what I did in 2019… although eventually you’ll hit your deductible with OB visits and birth. Our deductible is $5000, and then 10% coinsurance until we hit $10k oop. Highly recommend an HSA if you don’t have one.
@starkette we are okay with either sex. We are just so happy to be able to have another baby. After my loss in 2017 and the struggle with infertility since, we never thought we would get the chance again.
Grr I got an email from sneak peak today that the test results were inconclusive. I opted for a refund because shipping took a while to get to me and back to lab. At this point I have an appointment next Friday for 12 week us and testing.
Oh no @leahrnmom that’s so disappointing! I’m sorry 😩

We purchased one of these kits, as well. We haven't done it yet. I hope it works. I love that they refund if it's inconclusive or wrong. My wife gets NIPT done next week, so maybe the results will be the same.
@leahrnmom So sorry it didn't work! I've read transporting the blood samples during really cold temperatures can cause clotting Not sure if that's what happened, but it could make sense.
@mdfarmchick I don't think sex wise I'll see anything but I plan to ask about the NIPT again. I called my office to see if there was a number for a company I could call or anything because the NIPT isn't covered and would be 900$. With my first and second they did the Harmony and sent it out so I contacted the company and was able to get a coupon code. Well apparently the office I go to bought the equipment to run the test themselves so they do it in house and therefore do not have someone I can call. So anyway, the very kind billing person asked me to hold and verified that it wasn't covered and then asked me to hold again. When she came back from the second hold she said " I can't say much but when you come in tell the Dr you would really like the NIPT and ask what your options are" she then said she couldn't say anymore and acted strange so🤷 we shall see what the Dr says. Maybe they will be able to offer something so it doesn't cost 900$. Lol. Sorry for the super long winded response.

@amberrmariee20 this is precisely why I’m not doing it - 3 little boys, and one husband. High risk of contamination here.
